In this episode we pull the first layer of flowcoat underneath the hull after sanding and fixing all the imperfections. We are in the final stages of finishing the boat works prior to painting! sit back and enjoy!

Just a suggestion , how's about putting a couple of safety block the same thickness as your chest under the boat. something that can be moved easily. Great work will watch the rest to see how it comes out

hi do you need to add 2nd coat also what grid did you use for the top section b4 paint is 120 ok as son got me 2nd boat for xmas been trying to sand back and flow coat the top of 1/2 cabin great work will keep watching to see outcome thanks

Hey mate! Just curious what roller you used for the flowcoat? Looks like a hi gloss foam roller from Bunnings.. thought it would eat the foam tho, I was told only use "natural fibre" like mow hair..

You make it look so easy. My problem is I don't believe it would be safe to use gelcoat in an underground parkade (no active fans running).

Hey James, i guess it was just preference. I had access to 2k Paint were as the flow coat was quite expensive. tried to keep my costs down!

I know car bog is polyester but I use epoxy resin for the under water part of the hull, I've been told by multiple boat builders not to use car bog as it's too porous, especially for below the water line

Thanks for the comment Nonneo, Yes definitely. These were very minor imperfections in the hull and we had access to this at the time, but yes your very much correct. thanks for watching

run a chain under the boat from jack stand to jackstand. I would worry about 1 jack stand shifting outboard.

Hey mate how many coats of flowcoat do you reccomend for the hull? I actually have a Pacemaker hull (saw all your Pacemaker episodes) that needs a bit of repair in a a couple of places and have bought some to do the repair.

Hi Dhane! so anything that was grinded down past gelcoat into the fibreglass was reglassed then an polyester bog was made (Filler & poly Resin) to paste in and then sanded back to flush

The Boat Project hey mate, flowcoat and gelcoat is the exact same thing, flowcoat has a wax to help dry, best for this application!

What brand of bog are you using.....my understanding is that polyester car bog is not waterproof

hi bob just a general body filler, we ONLY used for very small pin holes, yes not waterproof but flow-coat is which we will be putting afew coats on. As a matter of fact Fiberglass isn't waterproof either, this is why boats are finished with a gel coat.

Very skilled , but that boat on Jack stands, definitely not, I'd have to make certain that it's well secured, and even secured to the rafters, I have an electric hoist in my shed, but a very good set of Videos.

When I did my 18 ft Haines I took the extra time to turn the boat over , I went to the recycling tip and got 3 old bed mattresses for the topside to sit on . This way you do get a perfect finish , and the safety factor is now reduced to zero . These guys should have a stand on the keel . . I would give these guys a job to do they don’t have an eye for details.

During this part, this was ONLY to sand the bottom. no work was done inside the boat at this time. Also it was a bare hull. But thanks for your comment, we take safety seriously!
