Visual approach over the island of Menorca (Minorca), Balearic Islands, Spain to runway 01. Cockpit view Airbus A320. With overflight of Menorca Island and flight along the shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea.
On this beautiful day, ATC cleared us to overfly the island from north to the south and then along the shore to establish on final approach for runway 01. ATC wanted us to fly the ILS (instrument landing system) approach because of another airplane in the approach. After the other airplane landed safely, we asked for a visual approach clearance and ATC cleared us accordingly.
Because of the visual approach, we used less fuel and saved flighttime. Due to the long runway (2550 meters or 8366 feet), we also were able to land without using more than idle reverse. This reduced the noise, engine wear and used less fuel.
We decided to leave the runway at the end, so almost no braking was required.
