No mention of the game boy to plug in and tune the scooter. It was the in thing! Nice video. Amongst all the many SR versions, we also got an early Minarelli engine version.

very informative vid, keep up the good work! Btw what variator weights do you reccomend for me to use if i only do an egr delete and nothing else on my aprilia srmt 50? I did the thing you showed where you remove the wire from the ecu.

Thanks for the support brother✌. The factory rollers are 7.5 from memory so you may consider to take them down the 6.8 gram. Trial and see at this weight, if the performance has increased. don't go too light.

Dude really good video very informative!!! I need some advice, I have a Ginelli v2 extra exhaust arriving soon what jet size do I need to Upjet to??? and what size rollers and clutch springs would you advise??? I have the piaggio carb engine 2015 bike???

Thanks, appreciate that. Theres a lot of variables, but generally we'd recommend starting around 70 jet, and working your way down the jet sizes until the bike starts to run more cleanly.

Awesome Video!!!! I wish this was out before I bought my 2005 Ditech. Yes it is expensive to fix. Just bought a rebuilt Fuel Pump US$350. Rings for the fuel injector $20 and it still does not run. It runs on the center stand but when it is down on the ground it will not go. I guess I should just dump it and get some other 2 stroke.

@@scooterstreetau yes got a 2016 one and thanks to your video I knew what I was buying. My last scooter was as Aprilia SRMAX 300 which I bought from Adam in 2014, so hoping this smaller one will be lots of fun too. I have a full bike licence but something about small bore is just fun

Wow mate you seriously know your stuff and get the information over incredibly well. Great vid. If you have a minute I’m having an issue with my 08 SR 50 (carbureted model). Was running fine before being cleaned and put in storage for two years. Now has an issue of spluttering and not running well once warmed up for a couple minute to the point where it seems to be starving if fuel. It Runs great when cold and starts easy. I’ve Left auto choke unplugged which now runs a lot better when warm. Carby has been cleaned but no improvement. Fuel flow is ok, fuel cap breather is ok. Any other ideas of what it may be? Glad you enjoyed it, a lot of hard learned info there! Sounds you have either an air leak or fuel blockage. If we had it in the shop, we'd drain the fuel tank, replace the fuel and vacuum lines and give the carb another clean just to eliminate any potential cause for issue there (make sure the jets are removed and blasted with carb cleaner and air). The next couple common causes are cracks in the intake manifold and airbox tube, and disintegration of the air filter foam (caused by fuel fumes not being vented from the airbox by normal running of the bike). I would check these before starting the bike again, if the air filter is crumbling apart it will immediately block the jets up again.

@@scooterstreetau Hi mate, thanks heaps for your feedback. I ordered a carby gasket kit, new intake manifold, new airbox connector and new Malossi air filter from you guys (thanks for the speedy delivery) and fitted them as yes it looked like early signs of cracking. I’ve now cleaned the carby a third time removing everything and flushed and high pressure cleaned all jets. I know it should be a blocked pilot jet but everything looks perfect. However I’m still having this issue once the auto choke warms up the bike won’t run. If I keep it idling and unplug the choke once it cools it starts running fine again. If I twist the throttle in a certain spot when warm I can get some brief response in rpm. Can’t work out what’s wrong…. Would you like me to purchase a call allowance? New carb maybe? But can’t work out why. I’ve ordered an ultra sonic cleaner so could try that first but everything looks and blows though jet wise great. Cheers mate

I had a same issue with my sr and the problem at the end was that oil from the fuel pump did not reach the engine and sadly she blew up

Great Video. I've just picked up a 2012 sr50r. Its injected although doesn't have the external waterpump, is there a definitive way to know from the casing if i have the piaggio or ditech engine?

I completely agree with your assessment. I owned 2009 until 2022 and have at least 6 failed fuel pumps in garage and same amount of air injectors. I always carry spare with me as they were failing very often (what a nightmare, they should recall those long time ago). I will never ever buy another Aprilia bike. Also the local dealer stopped selling Aprilia.

Hi! I have a aprilia ditech 2007 (piaggiomotor) that wont start. I opened the entire injectionsystem and i noticed that this little teflon ring at the top of the air injector is in very bad shape. Im just wondering if you have one in stock? Its so hard to get your hands on one. Thanks! Great video by the way!

Ok, great example of a tuned SR50R. Interestingly we built that scoot years ago for the original owner. All of the high end transmission parts had been taken out and replaced with factory parts and it was running like a 3 legged dog. We have given it a birthday and upgraded all the transmission amongst other parts. The new owner is stoked.

I left the transmission as it was from the fella I got it from, but I did get the upgraded crankshaft from you and installed that along with replacing all the bearings etc. It was always a little weapon of a scooter! 👌👌 It must have been through a journey after you built it and before me, now it's done a full circle and going strong 👌 coolest scooter around I reckon 😜

Are the ditechs reliable if you just pull the variator washer and have everything else original and just commute?

Like any model, when they are working well they are really a Great machine! The common theme with these models is that the repairs/ and diagnosis can be tricky and expensive.

You need to check the variator for the restricting washer, outside that there is no general restrictor. You just need to fit some go fast parts to get better performance.

Great video! i have some questions? i have aprilia sr 50 di tech factory and i buy some hyper 2 motor carb model. i want to switch the machine from ditech to carb Can i drive that machine with instalation from ditech with that regler and take internal rotor ignition from ditech

Does the piaggio Typhoon euro 4's ECU Have a rev limiter or speed limiter?

Yes they sure do. All of the Euro4 models have a similar system and it can be disengaged. On my scooter I remove the black/white wire in the 2 wire port on the ECU. watch the ECU video. I own a 2007 ditech. I have replaced the fuel pump and I must also mix the fuel, because the oil injector has failed. I added mallosi exhaust system and a mallosi variator and contra spring. After about 400 miles, after adding the mallosi parts, the engine has started a rod/bearing knock after 3800 rpm. I am searching for the largest cc upgrade piston and jug kit, along with a new crank kit and the largest injector and ecu that comes with the larger cc upgrade.

If you remove the clutch cover and then remove the variator. With a firm grip on the crankshaft, lift and push down to see if there is play. If there is vertical and lateral movement you can be pretty sure the bearings are on the way out. DO NOT delay in changing them if you suspect! You will reduce greater damage. Is the mix rich enough in oil?

@@scooterstreetau I believe that the fuel mix is right on. There is a tiny bit of play in the crank bearing. The rod knock starts at 3800 rpm and the more rpm's it turns the louder the knock becomes. This is why I am seeking a new crank kit. A stroker kit would be much nicer, but I'm not sure if there is one available for the morini ditech. From what I have found for replacement parts for my engine, the cost is between $850-$925 USD. For that price My 2007 Aprilia SR 50 should rip !

@@scottmiller4009 The plug will tell you if it is heavy on oil. Yes I am familiar with the knock of the Morini engine. Yes it will rip up the streets, once these are running well they are a great machine..

If its the fuel injected Piaggio engine, you have a leaking water pump shaft seal. Unfortunately the only way to properly fix it is to split the crank casing, remove the liquid cooling impeller and replace the seal from the inside. You can get water pump rebuild kits which include a new shaft, impeller, bearings and seal quite cheaply, the costly part is the removal of the engine, and splitting of the casing.

@@F0zzybe3ar You MUST change the jet. We also change the roller weights, and fit tighter clutch springs or change the clutch shoe.

@@scooterstreetau yeah I think as standard the rollers are 7.5grams, I already looked at putting in 6grams. I'd have to look into changing the springs on the clutch. Would it be worth changing the entire clutch/bell and belt too or is it not worth the hassle? It's only 4 years old and has done about 4000miles

@@F0zzybe3ar Yes 7.5 .gram is standard. You should try 6.5 or similar so it is not over revving but not to loose performance.. the lighter rollers maybe helping you overcome an early engaging clutch, so tighter clutch springs will allow a build before take off and the heavier rollers should give better acceleration and a longer pull without dropping away from the speed increase..

The Tacho often fails in this model. Check the connections at the underside of the dash assembly, but the issue is usually internal.

Usually the system will start without having the battery, this is the case with an AC system. The DC system must have battery power to start and create spark.

It really depends on the budget, The MHR cylinders are amazing for performance but you need the whole kit to go with them. If it is a street kit try for The Malossi MHR Rep.. two ring piston and reliable, Can't go wrong there..

i have a fuel injected piaggio and it always start but it dies after after a few seconds . sometimes i can even drive it for like 30 meters but most times it dies after maybe 5 sec . it fires right up again after it dies but same again 5 sec later it dies . What can be the problem ?

Check: Spark, Fuel, Air and air leaks. These are the basic checks. If the issue is not resolved, start with a compression test and then check the Injection system.

hello, I have a sr50 ditech piaggio 2008 factory for my son (we live in the netherlands, EU, by the way). it won't start anymore only when i put in a new spark plug and try to start with jumper cables via my van . then a we ride it for a few hours we can also turn off and start but then it dies (when starting a lot it smells gasoline. I hope you will help us how this is possible!!

No, my understanding is the Purejet engine is not tuneable with the game boy. The Ditech's had very limited tuning options with the game boy, you could really only remove the factory restriction. We have the Aprilia Dealer diagnostic system at the shop, and even it has very limited ability. The best option for the Purejet is to convert to carb!

Hey guys what do you think is the best combination for small clutch springs and the central clutch spring. Keep in mind that i have Aprilia SR50 R 2020 With Yasuni R and a Malossi MHR cylinder kit. I also have a 62 jet 6.0 G rollers and a STAGE 6 sports belt. Thanks !

We would go for the Yellow sport spring set. engaging at 3-4000rpm. The torque spring is dependant on the rollers weight.

@@nightbringer5169 The rollers for this set up should start at 4 gram, you need to get this kit revving, and then increase the weight as required. The torque spring - we like the blue Malossi spring, and the higher tension clutch springs set or just fit a performance clutch, Polini G3 or similar with adjustable spring tension. The MHR cylinder is very high revving and you will need the TC Unit at minimum although I would go for inner rotor ignition system. If you are running the MHR you should upgrade the crankshaft....

mine looks the same as the carb the air filter and the whater pump but the dashbord is from the ditech. Is it the carb or the ditech?

Does it have the carby or does it have the Injector? Watch from the 2:00 minute mark. Later Ditech shared the same air filter as the Carb models.

@@scooterstreetau lol very soon, this project has been in the works for the past 2 years saving money for it.. been a scooter racer/ mechanic too in the early days of those Honda dio’s and Yamaha jog, also the older piaggio zip sp 1996-2000 and sfera’s way back 1996-2004 when i retired and migrated to US, those rare italjet twin engine formula 125cc sound i mis so much. Sounds like a mini honda NSR 250r😂

This was really nice to know, so the carb's build up is actually build a little more better and less complicated then the ditech. But in engine wise they got same power right? "SR50 R CARB E4" is what I refer to, it's the same you speak about right?

Both 50cc, but the Ditech was very fast when is Development MODE, throw on an exhaust and it was clocking upto 85kph. The carby model needed some derestriction to get it travelling to higher top speeds. In Australia we have E2-3. and very limited E4. Basically the same but harder restriction on the E4.

there is also a older (single headlight) ditech morini version with carb witch makes searching for parts very confusing before you know exactly what you are looking for.

This refers to the different models, either Ditech, or Carby model. You can have a Ditech with a Carby unless you have fitted the conversion unit.@@hammerfix7241

We have seen these fail but not as common. Maybe 2 in our experience.

@@scooterstreetau interesting, I picked up an sr50 that has a problem where if I hold it wot I get a loss of power and a backfire, I have narrowed it down to the tps sensor on the throttle body but I’m still not 100% sure as diagnosing this bike is very hard

@@gagne6535 Yes very difficult as it send info back and forward to the ECU. Check the spark and the plug, it may not be firing correctly as the load increases. Electrical issue. We always start a Ditech diagnoses with checking the cylinder..

Basically yes, the SR 50 has many model variants. Identified by the last numbers, digits and description. SRMT, SR50R SR Sport, SR Ditech, SR Factory.....

Yes, The Piaggio engine has 2 electrical issues that can be difficult to diagnose. 1/ The first being the CDI/Coil. The failure symptoms are: Engine cutting out when hot or no starting. Check the Spark at the plug and you may see a weak or an Orange coloured spark. 2/ The wiring connection from the Stator to the main wiring loom. This can cause a splutter or dropping in and out during a ride. The wires can be displaced at the connection and have an intermittent break. We have hard wired several to diagnose this issue and it appears frequently, not only SR50R but Zip as well.

On both models it is the air intake. It feeds fresh air into the airbox. All scooters have this.

The earlier ones were the Morini engine. Piaggio continued the Ditech also the NRG has the injected Piaggio engine.

@@unpossible3249 It depends on the criteria, acceleration - mid range - top speed or overall. It is really up to the rider and most will argue the scooter they own is better than others. What we do know is the Morini always had greater acceleration with an engine gearing sound out through the exhaust. The gearing was very smooth and TGB which ran Morini engines made the better variators and transmission parts becoming a leader in the early manufacturing of these pieces. Brand such as Piaggio and Yamaha had TGB stamped on the variator from their respected factories. The Piaggio current days has more available parts and it more tuneable and easy to keep the machines on the road now days. The noise from the Piaggio was always exhaust based and the Early ZIP had a clean free revving tone but now with the many restrictions in the exhaust you will hear that dull muffled noise. The Piaggio ditech is fast all round and is very economical. The NRG, it really took over from the Morini Ditech and shows as a better engine but still shares the injection issues as the bikes age. So always keep up the maintenance and you will have a reliable overperformer scooter.

Dont recommend to buy any of ditechs now.U can show to customers how u can convert it to carb.its a easy job.

We agree, but even when the carby conversion is added they still run the Morini crankshaft😫

@@scooterstreetau and?fhere is no problem with ditech parts u only need to bypass it.im stil running with my converted piaggio engine.u need a few parts to buy but no need other crankshaft.
