Wow, I wasn't expecting it to have that difference in color temp! That's interesting. Have you considered adding some BTS at the end of your videos? Algorithmically it would only benefit you, but in terms of your viewers, it would also provide a bit more value. I love your A-Roll shot in this and being able to see how you lit it would be so cool. I see a key source, which I can't tell is natural light or not, and then a nice rim light on the left. I'm not sure if that is a bounce board or another light, but it looks PHENOMENAL!

Thanks! The lighting on this is kind of strange, it’s a huge diffuser on my right as a key, but then also bouncing a 300d into the wall on that side to raise the level of the room, and a Quazar tube behind me to the left for the rim

That squeekiness comes from you adjusting the light with the handbrake still on, whereas the 300d Mark 1 just used the plastic knob to activate a break through the friction between the knob and the yoke the lamp head. It's squeaking because you're actively fighting the disk brake. Please don't lubricate your brake. It will defeat the purpose.

hahaha! Exactly. It's the reason I don't buy Aperture lights any more. Each one has a different color science. Hopefully they will figure that out, the little color shifts really add up when you are going for pin point accurate product or skin tones and using multiplte lights in a scene.

"C" is short for "Century." It's been the industry standard for decades - super-stable, fit together in a cluster because of the leg design, etc. The drawback? You aren't loading a half-dozen of these on a flight: they're heavy! Hence, Manfrotto ....

I would like to do more photography with constant lighting but always felt like flash was the only way to go if you don’t want to burn a subject/model’s face off.....

Hi I really need some advice, So my friend has asked me to do a potrait shoot for a clothing brand and it is my first studio shoot every. The Studio will be providing 2X Aputure 300dii, 1x 120dii and 60x with a soft box. Are all these lights constant lighting or is it like a flash where I need to measure via a light meter? I am using a Nikon D810 to shoot and have no idea how to operate these lightings. Thank you in advance for any help.

How many lights are you using to light your main shot? I love the high key looks, and I struggle to achieve it properly. I've got 4 of the original Aputure HR672S lights.

Tyler is the reflector snug when mounted? I heard from some reviewers that it is loose and sags a little with barns and other stuff??

Do you use it with V-locks on only on AC? I see Aputure requires/recommends 15A batteries. Have you tried running it with 12A batteries which are easier and cheaper to get.

Great video! Just need to fix the mic levels. Lav is too low. Overall should be louder, could use some compression.

Yeah when you don’t make money from the gear it does feel expensive. But I do see the quality it provide and feel the price is justified. In the meantime I’ll continue using a Godox SL60w :)

A better way I should have talked about the price is that the 300 becomes more useful if you’re doing commercial work. Lighting big environments is when it’s most useful

The hard light shadow of the 300D II seems to have quite the messy shadow compared to a crisper shadow in the old one. Is that due to the new reflector?

They actually both look too messy to me, but I didn’t notice until I was editing the video. It’s definitely reflector related but I’m not sure what the problem is

@@stalman true, the old one is definitely not perfect. But compared to the new one in the test it's much closer to being great. Wonder if it's to do with their new pattern on the inside?

Hi Tyler, making purchase based on your recommendation which is so concise - thank you. Could you please advise what battery to use with this so I can factor in the cost and how many batteries are required. I'm shooting mostly interviews at present with a view to short films which I have done in the past. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bernadette

Have you tried the Godox versions? I use the 60W versions & they are incredible lights for the price.

I’ve tested the 60W in store and it looks like insanely good value. It probably makes more sense than the 120D for a lot of people but this new 300D really raises the bar for higher outputs

@@stalman The Godox SL60W made me understand the value of something like the 300D. Before purchasing the 60W I'd never used lights before, so all this talk about how big of a difference they can make never really hit home. Until now. It's a fantastic entry level light, and I managed to pick up a bundle pack, giving me a ton of flexibility and room to improve before eventually stepping it up a notch.

I think most people should definitely start with the less expensive lights like the Godox. When you need something serious like this, you’ll know
