AQUACERAS Part 4 - Making the Chassis Base | bit-tech Modding

It's time to get the making of this rig on the road, starting with the base! The base is a structural linchpin for this chassis as all the other parts build off it, so it's imperative to lay a strong foundation.
For those interested, I'm using a CNCStep S1000T router paired with Datron tooling.

One of the most talented modders in this hobby. This build is one of the most though out I ever saw. All the techniques currently used is something that I will keep in my shortlist just in case I would need one of this days.

You mentioned your plate wasn't very flat, I'm a machinist in the UK and in low quantities you can get cast tooling plate from aluminumwarehouse that has been blanchard ground (approx 0.02mm flatness) over the size you've got there. Love the videos. @bit-tech

I love the way you mounted the PCB into the piece, that's a brilliant bit of innovation where you have the depth of material available. I don't know what your compressor setup is like, but you might improve things by fitting a larger air reservoir (remember to include a condensate drain). It won't increase the output in terms of volume over time, but it will give you longer bursts between recharging which might make it less restrictive. Big workshop compressors tend to have huge tanks so they can supply the instant / burst volume without needing quite as big a motor and pump.
@Dropbear237
@Dropbear237 4 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to get a bigger compressor for your workshop that's not too loud, check out the Chicago Hush compressors. They have silent motors running a piston on each end of it via direct drive, and come in various sizes with configurations of 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 motors.

Next time use a single flute countersink, preferably one made for aluminum. You will get a much much nicer finish on all the countersunk holes. Multi-flute ones chatter and leave those ugly looking lines.

When you make your actual glass blasting setup, you should put a little box in the corner of it that you can put a camera in, that way the camera is safe from dust.

As soon as I saw you reach down and pull that box up I was like “yesssss he’s gonna use glass bead blast media!” I work with blast bead 10 primarily at my work and it leaves such a nice smooth satin looking finish. Great choice for this build.

wow, the contrast between glassblasted and the chamfers is gorgeous! i'm surprised you chamfered the recesses for the feet though. in my head i picture it possibly looking nicer with a seamless friction fit, but hey, i'm confident it'll turn out beautiful the way you've designed it.

why dont you use adaptive milling strategy for the pockets? you could drastically reduce the machining time. Not only by going full depth (less radial) but also by faster cutting feed and spindle speed.

can you do a video on how to paint metals? like copper and nickel. I had some monsoon fittings that were white and i want them to be blue so i tried painting them with a rustoleum spraypaint that says it's a painter and primer but it turned out really bad. so after about the third coat i gave up because it kept getting worse and i soaked them in canola oil then scraped the paint off and dried and sanded them and then soaked them in a cleaning solution and am now going to try primer and then the blue paint but i really just want a nice flat shiny finish and i really have no clue how.
