Please join me as I journey to and attend the first "Digstock" event that was recently held in Eastern North Carolina. Digstock is a paid event where anyone can buy a ticket to metal detect on leased farmland for a fun-filled weekend of digging and camaraderie. This video is the first part of the first day. I have edited the event videos to maintain a 15-20 minute viewing time. I saw some really rare and very historic finds at this event and I hope you tag along to see how a Digstock works. Kudos to the event organizers for their hard work in providing a fun, family-friendly metal detecting event open to all.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure, metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my KZfaq "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

The Vicksburg Battlefield Park had a metal detector event back in the late 1970s. The Park Museum had first choice of items dug. They really didn't keep much but a few whole artillery shells. After the event, the proceeds of the entry fees were used to pepper the entire park with pieces of copper, tin, and lead to discourage further illegal detecting. Park rules say no removing artifacts, but in washouts after a hard rain, surface finds can still be found, but you're not supposed to pick them up.

Events like that look fun and all but I think it's even more interesting when you're off the beaten path and happen upon something lost to time. That flat button and those two "bird points" were good examples of what I mean. Nevertheless your water adventures, especially pertaining to the Civil War, remain my favorites!

Big pieces of lead. Possibly part of lead water pipes or roof rain water cistern system from a plantation. 1840 to 1860s. Keep digging. Plus reloaders or black powder enthusiasts will buy indiscriminate chunks of old lead.

Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield and New Hope Church have hosted detector events back in the 1970s too. As states are shrinking Civil War Battlefield Sites and selling the property to land developers, it's worth keeping up with. Most land developers care less about metal detector enthusiasts and will give you permission to dig. These are the best places, as they have been protected for several decades.

Rent a ground penetrating radar to hunt around those fields where there are bricks to see if there are any burn pits.Old wine bottles and other relics below the range of the MDers. It's a tad expensive for one guy but if you go in a group the cost isn't prohibitive. Its about $1200 for a week.Buying one is going to set you back the price of a new car. I hunted some old farms in North Carolina back in the '70's and found some good caches of coins in cast iron pots. I worked with a black guy in Norfolk,Va. who had relatives down there and told of old farmers who died without telling anyone where they buried their money. They didn't trust banks after the crash of '29 when suddenly all their money in the bank was gone. The farmers would put the money pots in the ground and many chose to put them next to a fence post. When they needed to make a withdrawal they just counted the fence post to arrive at the bank. When the land changed hands at their demise many fences were tore down so that old fence line could be in the middle of a field today. I found one pot and was present when 2 more were discovered.Never seen any gold coins but lots of Barbers and Seated ,Morgans dollars, halfs, quarters .They never seemed to put pennys or nickles in the pot. When the wage of the day was $.25 per day the silver was worth a lot more than today. In one pot was a number of gold and silver jewelry. In a cellar pit I found was almost a complete 8 place setting of silverware. From the age of the site I'm guessing it was buried during the CW to keep them from being stolen by the Yankees. The Yankees burned the house because the charcoal from the fire was still in the soil. Keep swinging.
