Holly smokes, one BRS video I know all the answers. Back to I can't afford that and watching my 10gal. Great content and thank you for all the hard work you put into easing the pain. 10gal is more work but it let's me know I truly love this hobby. ty again for all your advice!

hey just fyi two 45 degree fitting equal one 90 degree, its been proven its slows down the flow the same amount and you've just added more work for yourself. Just stick with the 90's if you can get bent 90's better. Always great content!

Well... that's a lot more detailed than i got at work on explaining how to glue pvc together... lol. Id say dont measure all at once, and wiggle back and forth when glueing pieces together to fully seat the pipe into the fitting.

Any time you put a T piece or a fitting which needs to be in a certain direction, add a union it allows a lot more flexibility and you don’t need to use a permanent marker to mark it all up :)

Not to BYBs, 2 45 deg elbows = 1 90 deg elbow without the overcomplication. Improvements in flow using 2 45s, are extremely marginal. Mark Callahan goes into this in detail in one of his KZfaq videos. He's a professional installer. Another thing that seems ironic is that you are talking about maximizing flow, but then decide to use the schedule 80 instead of 40 which has a smaller inner diameter and is lower flow. If you want to minimize loss due to flow dynamics, soft tubing does it better than anything else since the radius tends to be maximized. I personally don't really care about the look under the cabinet and use schedule 40 as much as possible to maximize flow. I'm more concerned about the display but to each his own. I know there are a bunch of tech junkies in the hobby who are more interested in the gear side of things and that's okay too. To each his own. BRS has to keep selling this stuff. Plumbing can be tricky, especially when you're new. Soft tubing is always a good place to start and is much easier to mod later, which always seems to come sooner rather than later. Keep up the good work!

Not mistaken, the white is SCH 40 and he is only using SCH 80 on elbows and valves? Yes, loss from teo 45's is not going to give you anything in piping this small but may help in water hammer.
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
The sch 80 fittings will fit both sch 40 and 80 PVC, so while they're a bit more bulky on the outside, the fittings actually don't reduce the diameter. 100% correct about the sch 40 vs 80 pipe though!

Right, two back to back 45s are going to be similar or worse then a single 90 because connections themselves have pressure drop. If the 45s are separated out there might be a little improvement but probably not worth the added complication. If people are concerned there are also long sweep 90 and 45 connections that would help.

Thanks for this. I had always assumed that two 45s were better than 1 90, so I added it to the video! Another great example of how sometimes you just don't know what you don't know! Thanks for this and I won't make this mistake again! Probably just need to use street elbows!!

Good advice Matthew on using as few as possible 90 degree bends as you will compromise flow. Cepex ball valves are quality built and more efficient imo.

I just got a 3/4 x 1/2 x 3/4 T fitting and used a 1/2" ball valve then used the threaded adapter thats included instead of using a 3/4 ball valve and buying a 1/2" reducer.

Once you have plumbed the supply to your UV sterilizer from the return pump manifold, where would the return pipe connection go coming back from the UV Sterilizer so it returns back into the display tank.

0:38 ok, i work on boiler systems. These ball valves barely control flow, they will increasr velocity. Does this valve here being mostly closed not negatively imapct the system? I seriously dont know here as i only work on pipes that get to 180 degrees at like 20 PSI hot.

When doing this, Do I just have to wait the 2-3 hours for it to dry in place on my return line and then it is safe to turn the pump back on and go about my reefing? I have been wanting to do this for a while but have been intimidated by the glue drying as I thought I would have to wait like 24- 48 hours for it to be safe.

We most often use the Oatey brand, which recommends 2 hours of cure time. In our experience, this is just fine and doesn't pose any issues for the tank or inhabitants.

Good catch! This is the one that you'd want to go from a threaded fitting to push connect (specifically the 1/2" size for the reactor that Matthew talks about in the video): www.bulkreefsupply.com/mur-lok-male-npt-x-push-connect.html

Ok we are going with the gray schedule 80 because it looks nicer and I’m at the part you are using a sharpie and I am cringing badly!!!! I am electrician that runs a lot of conduit and sharpies are a no no no way because now you have this black line and marks all over. Pro Tip use a pencil because it wipes off easily.

This type of mask doesn't do anything for you in terms of fumes. It's a particle mask. I see that a lot...and also scratch my head about how people think it would filter out fumes. You need something with carbon inside. Using a particle mask for fumes is like trying to filter out the meds you put into your tank with a filter sock.

Schedule 40 PVC is rated to 600 psi. It is absolutely not needed for aquarium plumbing! Using sched 80 is a waste of ca$h and space. I know... I know... but really, save your money and go 40.

Uhm..2 45s vs 1 90? 🤔😕 No. Theres a formula to calculate flow velocity given pipe size, elbows, head, all inclusively. Mathematically speaking, you summate the number of bends by size. So 2 45 degee bends is equal to 90; theres no difference. The formula goes by degrees per bend. If you broke your system into segments, reiterate, youll get a very on target figure. Additionally, those 2 45s? See that short distance beteeen the radii of adjacent bends? Thats a very short 45 degree incline. That may or may not be ststistically significant but keep that in mimd.
