I always wondered how that fly-back timer worked. It was great seeing a demo of its use. Thanks! It would be great to see Aquastar re-issue this, but getting the same complication would be difficult.

The Aquastar Benthos 500 is still relevant… for divers needing a timepiece that can track their dive time (with the bezel) AND their safety stops (with the chronograph). What sets the Aquastar Benthos 500 apart from other chronographs is that the pusher can be activated underwater without fear of flooding the case. Fortunately, Rick Marei has recently resurrected the Benthos 500 with the Benthos 500 Founder’s Edition. The dimensions are slightly thinner at the expense of water resistance (200m for the original 500m), but, hey, most recreational divers won’t be going beyond 200 FEET anyways! 🤿

I don’t think anyone on this planet would be crazy enough to try to dive with an original aquastar! I think it worked better in theory than in practice. Amusingly enough, there was a more reliable and very rare later Memodive model that did the same with a quartz movement. You never see those around. As far as the reissues, 🤷♂️

That is really nice. Very interesting movement too. The Aquastar brand is now owned by Synchron, which also own Aquadive, Isofrane, and Tropic. It would be nice if they re-issued this, even if they went with a standard 3-Hand movement. I saw the new Deepstar Chrono. It’s using an automatic column-wheel Chronograph movement by La Joux-Perret. I never heard of them, but the movement is decorated very nice. I’m not personally a fan of it, and it’s really pricey.

I stumbled across your channel while searching for CWC divers. I think I've just found my favourite watch channel! Simple visuals with a focus on the watch, and informed commentary. Thanks for taking the time to create this video, there seem to be a few 70s era tool watches here which is bullseye for me.

Interesting how these timing "tool" manufacturers came up with practical engineering solutions. It explains why these technologies didn't carry on as the industry moved towards fashion.

Very interesting watch. I love it's 60min function. Too bad it went out of business. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome review! I own the 1003 variation with the scaled bezel. My arrow hand is little bended at the tip, is it normal?

This is an amazingly beautiful watch in a brutal, tool aesthetic. It's a pity they're not exactly cheap! Maybe one day watches will lose popularity and I can pick one up

I own one of these watches (Aquastar Geneve, Benthos 500) and would like to sell it. Do you know of any company interested in buying this kind of watches?

eBay and the various watch forums would be your best bet.
