They’ve aged so well. Out of curiosity, is the led still blinking? I haven’t looked at watches on Canal st in ages.

Yeah, it's blinking faintly. It was my first time at the stores there and my first pre-owned watch purchase.

Your speculation may be true. I have a Seiko daydate. It didn't have a piece of lint on the dial for the first few years. Then I noticed one. It made its way on the dial from some other location. No biggie. I removed it during a battery change.

The Roman "XII" on the Mark XII dial kind of doubles as a "12" and a "X-11" which is kind of cool

I tried to record it while taking it apart and… it was just a bit too much. Once you get the shroud and bezel off, you have to be super careful not to scratch the dial. Sorry.

I was interested in the Reissue with the ETA movement, and I had a question or three. So I contacted the customer service with my questions, that was about three or four weeks ago. I still haven`t heard one word from them, too bad for them, I do not think that I will spend my money on a CWC watch.

Sometimes people have better results contacting them through social media. Also, consider looking for used models on forums/ebay.

The Aquastar Benthos 500 is still relevant… for divers needing a timepiece that can track their dive time (with the bezel) AND their safety stops (with the chronograph). What sets the Aquastar Benthos 500 apart from other chronographs is that the pusher can be activated underwater without fear of flooding the case. Fortunately, Rick Marei has recently resurrected the Benthos 500 with the Benthos 500 Founder’s Edition. The dimensions are slightly thinner at the expense of water resistance (200m for the original 500m), but, hey, most recreational divers won’t be going beyond 200 FEET anyways! 🤿
@InterestingWatches2 ай бұрын
I don’t think anyone on this planet would be crazy enough to try to dive with an original aquastar! I think it worked better in theory than in practice. Amusingly enough, there was a more reliable and very rare later Memodive model that did the same with a quartz movement. You never see those around. As far as the reissues, 🤷♂️

When enthusiasts started calling shrouded Seikos “Tuna”? From which model?

I had the same problem. There is a inner metal ring, the chapter ring goes underneath that ring. If you install it over that metal ring it will be loose and never will be able to fit on the dial.

I had an automatic version but sold it and went with the quartz. The automatic version didn’t keep time well. But I didn’t have the dust issue. Or perhaps the tritium is flaking?
@InterestingWatches4 ай бұрын
I’m assuming this was a one off problem, but it’s definitely not tritium. Multicolored fibers and even a few hairs. Tritum flaking is messy, but uniform in color. Thankfully I was able to take it apart and blow it all out. It’s much nicer to wear with a uniformly black dial 😁.

I collect and own some lovely vintage seiko that I do not wear to keep them in nice condition, I wear a Lorus sports 100 Kinetic with an arabic dial similar to the model you showacase, I have worn this swimming and in steam/sauna rooms for over a decade and it has kept perfect time, I have owned SUS models and could not get on with the squared off hour hand, but I would like to find the model you have and see how I like it at some point, great review BTW with superb observations only a true connoisseur would understand.

Oh and the dial... yes it's busy. For me, I quickly start to see distinct sections/sectors of the dial that my brain uses to keep it all straight. You've got the arabics, then the large marks at the quarters, then the individual minute mark, and finally the finer markings on the chapter ring. American-style field watches do the same thing for me - there's a lot going on, but it's organized well. And I'm the same - going back to a less busy dial doesn't feel right.

I finally got one a little over 1 month ago, after over a decade of lusting for one. Mine's a 2005 SBBN007 in really good condition (a little nicer than yours), but it cost me almost $900!! Even today the majority of these older models will have to be ordered from a seller in Japan. For just over 1 month, it's running exactly +1 second. Such an amazing watch! And this 007 model is my favorite of the Tunas due to the steel bezel insert, crop circles around the markers, white/silver day/date wheels, border around the day/date window, smaller Seiko and Professional script, and it doesn't say 'Marinemaster', which clutters the dial, imo. 👍❤

It would be a nice watch to have, but after having spent years tracking down spare parts for an Aquastar Benthos, I never want to have to go vintage parts hunting again. I hold out some hope for 3D printing, but who knows how long it will take for the technology to mature.

Individually, they are comically small, but when combined, the size becomes reasonable. The main thing I always hated was having the watch module be on the upper end. Just recently, I finally figured out how you can switch it around. Much more usable now. Happy new year!
