Glad to see your doing so well! All my scud balls died because I had an issue with extremely acidic water, due to a large piece of mopani wood I added to my tank, and infrequent water changes because I didn’t know. So sad!! i only found out about the acid water too late of course. Lesson learned. Mopani wood is now gone 😣

Got my bag of bugs last weekend! They are currently in a jar while I set up a bigger colony tank for them.

I love your creativity with the water flow. The air lift is great idea when you just need a tiny amount of flow. I love messing around with syphons and pumps.

Glad to see someone in the USA selling aquatic isopods. The only place I've been able to get them is Carolina Biological Supply, and they don't send enough to start a proper culture. Looks like I'll be ordering another bag of bugs come springtime. I can't wait....

I have scuds and lirceus sp isopods collected from southern Ontario. I feed leaf litter, carrots, cucumbers, and dried mysis shrimp. That feeds all the other species in the tank too. The tank also gets 13h of light to maximize algae and biofilm (they keep it crystal clear though). I noticed that despite being fed protein, vegetables, and detritus the largest scuds have begun killing and eating my isopods. I have witnessed them in the act. Isopod covered in scuds and it was writhing around. Ive begun to separate the isopods but ill never find all of them :(

So cool! I have a 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank that I use as my outdoor pond. I love it. They're so sturdy and a lot less expensive than preformed ponds.

oh my god. I am obsessed with land-dwelling isopods, I have a couple cultures of porcellio scabers and armidilidium vulgares. I had NO IDEA there were freshwater aquatic ones available. I am freaking out LOL. oh and I got a bag of bugs last week and it's doing great in my blackwater, heavily planted 20 gal! I already had some scuds and such, but I wanted to add more genetic diversity. I love watching so many layers of life working together! I also have shrimp and a small school of neon tetras. The focus is my shrimp, but the tetras keep the flatworms from taking over the front glass.

Phillip im glad i found your channel,, im interested in learning more about this microfauna and studs. I just wish it wasn't so cold out where i can order more i purchased your bag of bugs and im letting them grown out, i think im gonna let it grow out for about a month or so more waiting to put in my planted 55 gallon. One question do i need to add an air stone in the little container i have them growing out cause i did put one in?? Anyway love learning about these videos your putting out thanks brother. One more thing i bought some live brime shrimp to feed my electric blue Acura fry can i put them with the bag of bugs i have growing out or is that not a good idea

That air-stone to move water is ingenious I had not seen that before. Are they all circulating into each other?

Will you be making an in-depth profile on the isopods? I'm curious about the role they could play in a natural setup. Do they eat things others won't? Are they good fish food? (not that they aren't stinkin rad on their own, I just want the details!)

I've been keeping aquatic isopods for a few years now and like your setup ! I find them to be fairly aggressive towards each other (unlike terrestrial isopods) so the large surface area is ideal IMO

When i first orderd ur scuds i was skeptical of why i never seen them but know i realized they keep on multiplying

Do you have an estimate an when youll sell the isopods? I've been having one heck of a time trying to acclimate local species to my water.

I noticed u have an algae scrubber on the right at like 2:45. How is that working for you? I haven’t seen them much used in freshwater.
