No CGI here-it’s all real. This is a video of our WayRay team testing the Holographic True AR head-up display. All journeys were performed in normal city conditions. All navigation, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and infotainment features are working in real-time, on real data
• The interface elements fit naturally into the space in front of the vehicle and interact with each other, always taking into account everything that’s going on at any particular moment.
• We combine revolutionary hardware and optics with the best software in terms of positioning accuracy and lowest latency.
• The technology takes into account the particularities of each unique user’s experience, which covers more than just the navigational needs of the driver.
• We do not only show navigation when a maneuver is necessary; we also guide the user to these maneuvers by means of AR navigation on the road.
• We have created a combination of much different navigations, ADAS, and Infotainment features that work in tandem without distracting the driver.

Very amazing and very helpful. Seems very distracting at first but I’m sure you’ll forget about it but what’s the price the will be set upon this and will it work with certain vehicles and how will it work?

Hi, I'm Max Shtok - Head of AR UI/UX Integration at WayRay. Thanks for your appreciation! We were focused on the visual part. But such system can be integrated with other alerts and warnings such as audio or haptic (vibrating steering wheel).

What kind of bothered me was the way pedestrians were visualized using the crosswalks. The indicators are rather small and do not have the same kind of urgency to them as, for example, the indicators used when another vehicle is too close. If other vehicles are marked with a vibrant red border to indicate imminent danger and to pull back, the same kind of strong visual should be used in case of crosswalks when pedestrians are present. For example, highlighting the crosswalk itself with red lines to indicate the need to stop and to warn more strongly about pedestrians approaching, especially when they might be at the edge or out of view of the driver (including obscured by other vehicles).

reminder that you have far more visual actually driving a car than the camera in the video, making it easier to see them. Also, yellow is a colour easily noticed by our eyes. This is meant as an auxiliary to your normal driving experience, and thus i believe that notifications are good enough.

Hi, I'm Max Shtok - Head of AR UI/UX Integration at WayRay. It might seem distracting at first glance, especially on the video where you are supposed to look at the graphics, because you are not driving - you are watching the demonstration. But once you drive the first 10 minutes - you will forget to look at your cluster or central panel screen. Because everything you need will be at your lane of sight and when you need it. The perception in person changes as well - as it is very comfortable for your eyes to receive the visual information at a correct distances.

@@maksimshtok2577 Hi Max, I suspect you are correct however I have a larger issue with these kinds of systems in general. They develop what I like to refer to as Dissociative Auto Pilot (yes, I just made that up) where your brain is no longer creating the information that your display is presenting on its own thus removing the learning process for identifying hazards intuitively. Take for example your standard navigation app that tells you turn left on A. street then right on B. street. These systems work great but unless your really making the effort you don't retain how to get to your destination on your own, you simply listen or watch the instructions; you are no longer taking mental note of landmarks and truly paying attention on how to get somewhere and your surroundings. The same is with your system, your training your brain to get this information from an external system and over time you will no longer be looking for pedestrians or obstacles because you don't need to, instead you will be looking for whatever graphic is up notifying you of something to avoid. This obviously becomes a problem when your system fails to indicate a hazard properly. Another example is in video games, take a newer Assassins Creed for example; in-game you have overlay markers indicating where to go. When you use these it is easy to get into the habit of "just head towards the marker until you get there" way of thinking and you are no longer taking in the details around you; you become disassociated with them and are on auto pilot until you get to your destination. Ultimately taking the driver or player out of the experience. I can honestly say because of this my reaction time is at its lowest when I am simply following a HUD telling me what to do. Being a software engineer myself I can truly appreciate the underlying tech and accomplishments of your system and I also understand the demonstration is to show off the capabilities and we are removed from the actual experience, however for a real world implementation I do not think what the demo is conveying is a practical or safe way forward. Instead I would like to see a more reactive system that only shows you indications when a potential accident should be avoided, similar to the beeping your car might make when backing up and your getting very close to hitting something; only then does the system grab your attention. Granted this might make for a poor demonstration of the systems capabilities but I do feel this is an issue that needs to be addressed and I realize this is probably not the forum to do it. Purely from a technical perspective I give you a huge thumbs up! From a fellow human in society I suggest we look at this more closely before it becomes a mandated safety feature in our vehicles (which will obviously be at odds with WayRay investors).

I highly doubt that you are doing all of this image processing, car detection, pedestrian detection all by yourself. The video implies that all of these functions are from your HUD, which are actually performed by really more sofisticated modules like ADAS. Show us how your true AR HUD really works, not how it takes information from other modules in the car and project them on the windshield.

Hi, I'm Max Shtok - Head of AR UI/UX Integration at WayRay. You are absolutely correct on the point, that we take the data from the sensors and visualize it. But we create that data on our own as well. We use our own Computer Vision algorithms, sensor hub for 6D positioning and self-developed AR rendering engine. Then we create the UI that you see in the video over that data. This UI is designed to be as useful as possible yet immersive and with respect to all software and hardware capabilities. And overall picture is generated by our Holographic optics. The True AR HUD is not only the resulting image - it's all that is hidden - hardware, software and HMI developed internally.
