Hey Johnathan, love the format! One idea - perhaps you could recommend your favorite run or section of the mountain? Totally not necessary, but I think it'd really be a nice extra little detail.

A-basin is the best kept secret of Colorado snow sports. Fastest lift in Colorado to the top where you can access interesting blue runs, great bowls, glades and beavers expert runs, and the unique east wall with chutes. All in a non-resort setup with free parking and a chilled "locals" atmosphere. Can easily get 5-7 runs an hour. I always leave exhausted and a better snowboarder.

I watched my bestfriend snap his femur on a black diamond on the backside of Arapahoe on spring break, he flew past me and hit a snow drift we couldn't see and caught atleast 15 ft of air and hit a tree. honestly though, that trip was so chaotic, we were stoned and drunk for 5 days and it was a matter of time before someone got hurt. Wouldn't trade anything for those memories.

One of the times I was here last year, I fell and badly dislodged my thumb (probably broke it but I’m to broke for hospital visits) and when I went to the medical hut, the ski patrol person kinda laughed it off and told me I was over reacting and they didn’t even have any ibuprofen to help me. I drove all the way back to Denver in horrible pain. Was back the next week skiing without my poles tho. Can’t waste the ski season

Hey if you go to canada I would recommend of course whistler but another is marmot basin it’s so underrated if you can try it out and if you go to marmot than it’s like hours away from sunshine village,lake Louise etc it’s great

To answer your question on why Pali's still a fixed grip, its because they still wanted the history and same feel of the pali lift however, they wanted to reduce maintenance and increase safety.

And it intentionally keeps the crowds from accessing terrain that would kill them. Most places run a fixed grip on their expert terrain for this very reason.

I went in closing day last week. Horrible employee experience. Super standoffish when I was asking about a rental for my friend. Very unhelpful, just seemed pissed off to be there. My friend commented on it aswell. Poor experience. Love a bay though, that place rips. End of season is elite.

The movie “In pursuit of soul” changed me forevermore. The independent mountains near the metro areas are the future of skiing. They are keeping the experience alive. Paid parking, overselling cheap season passes, mismanaging their resorts is why I don’t like Vail. Vail has ruined their East coast mountains with their one size fits all pass. Vail is pricing out brand new skiers into the sport.

IKON is way better for Colorado skiing because it has Copper, Abasin, Winter Park which have all preserved the vibe you are talking about. Steamboat is getting a bit too Vaily for me and Breck, Keystone have also lost their soul although Keystone is boarderline I suppose.

Regarding your comment about the employee attitudes at A-Basin: for the most part, they're OK. But there was a time when one of the liftees yelled at my gf for missing her rotation on the old Lenawee lift. The guy was a total douchebag, not taking into account that Lenawee has a tough upward walk in a very tight space to get up to the load platform. He acted like it was the end of the world that one chair went up empty. And it's not like she wasn't trying hard to make it. She just couldn't get there on time. By the way, Lenawee is closed right now b/c they're rebuilding it. They're saying it won't be open 'til early to mid-December, so that means no upper mountain blues and blacks for another few weeks yet.

take it from someone who lived and worked at Tahoe resorts in the mid 90s places like Squaw Valley now Palisades etc the employees aren't happy half the time because they are working and not riding or skiing and watching the public happy all day long lol one of the downsides to resort life obviously lol
