Pete Devries and Jeremy Koreski, two long-time partners in the mission to surf and photograph the
best waves Vancouver Island have to offer, take the extra step into their deep backyard returning to a wave that
had shown past potential for a legendary session. In the process, Pete tells of his life as a ”happy recluse," at home in cold water.

Stoked Arc finally got into the surf world even if y'all aren't making surf-specific garments and gear. And Pete Devries absolutely charges. Keep this stuff up!

Excellent film! Real cold water surfers fully understand the magical element that below zero adds to the equation. As I hit 70, the thicker rubber became an added obstacle to performance, so now I head to warmer climes..... but I truly miss that peace that envelopes you as you strip your suit off, body steaming in 15* and fading winter light.

Surprisingly inspirational. Thanks dude. I'm from Sydney. I actually caught my first wave last week, also with a wetsuit... not that it was really needed! Not a cold as you guys up there. I really agree with the fact that most of the time you need to put a lot of effort, time and waiting until you get those conditions you want to get that wave. It's really cool to hear that you still have that struggle as a professional. Wishing you all the success in the future.

With huge tide swings and massive swells coming in constantly The potential has always been here. I have surfed the island for 30 years. A true recluse. Never looking for others to surf with. Only good waves was the goal. There is more surf spots in Tofino than is apparent. Just having a boat could be the trick. Lots of glory and no photos from the past. For Me. Who is Chewy? I have one of his old pin tails.

Arc needs to create a puffer or insulated outerwear that is resistant to embers! Maybe a wool blend exterior or something fairly light...especially for strike missions such as these....nylon puffers get destroyed easily....

The main breaks there get really consistent surf practically year round. It's rarely epic like the final clips....mostly winter, but it's almost always decent with huge swaths of mostly uncrowded beach breaks. Even in the summer. Of course, the locals there will tell you summer crowds are "huge" but they don't know what the word "crowded" really means if they haven't surfed outside of Tofino. Their "crowded" is other places "a few people". Frankly, even though it's a small community, I'm a little surprised their haven't been more surfers coming out of Tofino making a bigger name for themselves. It's pretty much the perfect breeding ground for kids growing up there.
