We review the Hoyt Carbon Defiant Turbo. Axle to Axle 33", IBO 350FPS, Comes in 3 draw lengths 24-26", 26-28", 28-30"
We compare the Hoyt Carbon Defiant Turbo to the Hoyt Defiant Turbo, PSE Carbon Air, Win and Win CS6. Price and weight.
We then shoot the Hoyt Carbon Defiant through the Chronograph and compare it to the PSE Full Throttle.
We then shoot the bow at 18 meters in the indoor range.

I didn't really see the bias some of you are talking about. What I heard was great looking bow, great shooting with lo/no vibration. Draw length setting for 29" felt long and rough draw cycle (Turbo, it's kind of expected). A bit heavier than expected for a carbon model ( yes, the sight and whisker biscuit were there for measurement, but still heavier 3.8 lbs per specs to carbon air 3.2 lbs). He was most complimentary of the bow from what I saw, I guess if you have any criticism, you are biased. The price is what kept me from buying this bow and buying a used 2015 Hoyt Nitrum Turbo for $700 U.S. less and I love it and it shoots great. I think some people need to fanboy a little less on someone else's opinion, as selecting a bow is a very personal thing and what one person sees and feels is not the same as another. That said, it does help to hear other peoples opinions, even if you don't share their feelings. As he said, go try it out and compare to the other Hoyt's in the line to see how they feel to you. I would also recommend trying out the other manufacturers as well, even though the only bows I currently shoot are Hoyts.

I shot a Hoyt Carbon Defiant at the pro shop and it was set at 55 lbs. I shoot around 45-50 lbs range on my Diamond Razor Edge and the Hoyt felt like a pulling a feather. It was buttery smooth and the draw cycle was not hard at all, I dont know what youre talking about.

So we not going to talk about how the carbon defiant had a sight and a whisker biscuit when he weighed it

Really hope hoyt is going to step their game up with the 2018 lineup. I feel like the defiants were more of a marketing ploy.

I shoot a pro defiant turbo at 73 lbs 28.5 draw length super fast steady in the hand. I also shoot a carbon defiant 31at 72lbs 28.5 draw dead in the hand great size tough over built bow. if you want to buy a used bow buy a hoyt hard to kill.

Great review! I own the carbon turbo (for the looks ofcourse) and can realy relate to the extra length in inches it feels to have, and particulairy the extra weight in the let off. On good days when I'm really comfortable with the bow, It feels lighter, so I think it's a psychological thingy, where I tend to pull it back harder for it otherwise tends to want to go. I'd recommend people to check out the "normal" 34 cabon defiant aswell, just to judge if the drawcycle is worth the speed, or to just get the 34 in 80 pounds ( the turbo only goes to 70 lb)

I think looks play a big part and you can match up all the cool bits. Some customers prefer one and other prefer the other. But overall I think after the shot it is a good feel and heaps of punching power.

Archery Supplies Like stated before you weighted the hoyt with the rest and sight installed. I normally like your videos but this one was definitely a bias review.

Here's a thought Steve...set the bows up the same...eg, same dl, same poundage, same rest, same stabiliser, peep, etc etc...will give a much better apple's v apple's comparison. Will take you a bit of time on your part but honestly it will give a much better review...
@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale

The Full Throttle was a last minute thought due to the draw cycle. All my reviews have the same rest and same arrow set at the same poundage. So you can make a comparison. But given the Full Throttle is a 370 fps bow and the Carbon Defiant is 350 fps bow I think the speeds were very close.

You are comparing the weight of two bare bows vs the Hoyt with a sight and rest. Not exactly a fair weight comparison. Carbon is nice for winter hunting. It doesn't suck the heat out of your hand. Other than that, carbon is just novelty.

I weighed the bow just then without the sight and rest and it weighed 4.16 lbs. Im not sure what it weighed on the video. But it does not feel much different to the normal Hoyt Defiant. You can feel the difference in the Carbon Air. But it depends on what you are looking for in a bow. I thought I mentioned the head and cold in the carbon. I did mention it on my webpage. But I think it is the coolness factor and the extra dollars of the Carbon Defiant.

justincasewwz I agree. I noticed the sight and rest too. I like Archery Supply's videos, but I was hoping for comparison with less bias. I also don't know why the video is comparing the turbo and not the regular defiant. The standard defiant has a much better valley, brace hight, and draw cycle and is IBO rated at 331 FPS. I think it would make more sense to compare the regular defiant at 331 FPS and the Carbon air at 340 FPS. I always considered the Turbo a better option for people with short draw lengths or people who pull lower poundage.

Brian James I own the carbon defiant non turbo. Great bow. I had the aluminum defiant and they shot almost identically. I went for the coolness factor but more so I hunt in freezing temperatures in Wisconsin.

Actually I like the Hoyts. They are rock solid, they have a great finish and I think PSE have been chasing Hoyt on finish and I think PSE have made steps towards them especially in the target line up. I would like a fast light carbon bow. So my two areas where weight and the grip. Weight is a mixed bag I am shooting heavier these days and now Mathews is also going heavy. But overall I think this is one of the best Hoyts ever and I could argue it is the best Hoyt Hunting bow ever. I like to think about what customers want in a bow and what they look for. I don't think this bow is for everyone. But some people will just love it. But I know when I had a PSE Decree and the Full Throttle I prefered the Decree as it was lighter for walking in the bush. I think I may even prefer the normal Hoyt Carbon Defiant over the the Turbo. But this has to be one of the top bows for 2017 for hunting in my opinion. If it looks like I rate it poorly it is more to do with value, I was the same with the PSE Carbon Air. But I loved the PSE Epix because it was great value. But I am even mixed on the value because really $2000 for the best bow made is really good value. But that is why people need to see and try the bows and decide for themselves. But I was really impressed by the speed. Thanks Steven

I really like your in depth reviews! I noticed that the limb bolts were backed way out on the model you tested? Out of interest, do you think that would have anything to do with how the draw length felt long and the overall feel on the back wall? Would this also effect the speed?

comparing it to the pse with the drop away is not a proper test. Over all the general fit and machining on a Hoyt is superior. the Hoyt has a 6" brace to what on the pse 5"? no comparison. Put the drop away on the Hoyt and acount for the 1/2-1" brace difference and then judge. Just to add I own Hoyt but love PSE and Prime. Its hard to find crap bows these days. Cast Alu/Mag crap of old is long gone.

I only did it last minute to compare the draw cycle for myself and check the speeds but for 20fps difference the speeds were very close. The Full Throttle is also draw specific which is a negative. I think it is really hard for customers picking a bow because they are all so good. But it is fun to try them and see what you like and see what changes year to year.

Who wouldn't be hating on hoyt? Hoyt has spend millions in advertising and pays a bunch of KZfaq hype boys to push their product. Their "carbon" riser is more than 40% aluminum. Their draw cycle sucks a stack of cocks. My bow shoots 355 and is waaayyy smoother. I went in unbiased to my local shop and I honestly thought the hoyt was dogshit.
