Archie (Carroll O'Connor) accompanies Edith (Jean Stapleton) to the supermarket in the hope to help her spend less.
From Season 7, Episode 5 'The Unemployment Story: Part 2': Archie continues to have problems with finances and with finding another job. At the grocery store, he stresses himself about Edith's spending habits and tries to save money even if it means denting cans to save two cents. Gloria informs him that he has an interview for a job as a custodian, and at the interview he finds out that he is only being offered the job because of his lack of education. He gets the job over a man who is highly educated but has been out of work for three years.

About All In The Family:
One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

The blue collar worker shows WERE THE BEST SHOWS. They dealt with reality more. All these shows now are rich idiots fighting and jealousy sex and cheating. Clothing and the bling, cars, money killing etc. garbage

There’s a tradeoff though. The salaries were much lower back then nevertheless a blue collar worker could still buy a house, a car and have his wife stay at home and look after the family. But people didn’t go on luxury vacations, have exotic food, and closets packed with clothes. Things were much simpler back then.

Interesting that Tuna was 74 cents. Now you can still get a can for 99cents in Canada when on sale. That was expensive back then.

Some stores send all their dented cans to special dented can stores in poor neighborhoods so the poor people get the discount and other people can’t get away with stealing by denting cans.

Prices on the products!!! I remember that being phased out, as scanning items became more widely implemented in stores. It's a lot more work to change the prices if the items are marked with the prices.

In the 70s my Dad would take a black marker to the grocery store, tare off the label from can food and mark a cheap price on it, back then stores would just write reduced price on cans and put the items in a basket to sell
