This was hypnotizing, lol. I totally zen'd out watching this tear down. I can't believe how much Jason knows about this stuff. Like all the ring and dowel placements. Definitely a well experienced professional.

Very informative video. Thanks for making this. Strange to find that head gasket not punched out correct and the engine building putting it in anyway. I have a '10 crossfire 800 with 13,200 Miles. Low end bog and hard to start when hot unless i hold the throttle. Checked pretty much everything, all looks good. Haven't check stator to help with hard hot starts. Installed power commander with autotune to see if I can do anything to help with the bog. Not enough snow to test and tune yet though. Looking forward to part 2

Thanks! Those issues sounds a lot like what Jason had going on before this. We will report back on if it was fixed or not. Let me know how yours turns out!

FYI, you can use a threaded rod or long bolt with washers and nuts to pull the piston pins out. Also, don't forget to replace that mechanical seal from behind the impellor. Its very rare that they come with your gasket kit, so you will likely nee to order it separately.

Yeah good idea...in a later video you will see a homemade puller we used for secondary clutch work.... Probably could've used that. In this case it was pretty loose... Barely tapped it out. Are you referring to the seal in the case? I think my kit did come with it but we did not swap it out. I did pressure check the case and coolant side though.
@ArcticJeff
@ArcticJeff 3 жыл бұрын
@@sledjason There are two seals behind the impeller. There is a small seal in the case, that the water pump/oil pump shaft passes through, your gasket kit would have supplied that one. But there was a spring with a seal on it right directly behind the impeller, in the video you were mentioned it was "a spring with a seal". That is the mechanical seal, and one end is ceramic. That one should be replaced too and its very delicate - don't touch the ceramic.

If you've already put it back together and its not leaking, don't worry about it. Just a note for next time, or if it starts leaking down the line.

Gaskets covering coolant passages are likely deliberate, assuming this has never been rebuilt before. Likely meant to control coolant flow based on OEM engineering findings. This is quite common in automotive engines.

Yeah the new ones had those sections covered as well. What's kinda scary is how parts of the metal that were pre punched but not removed, seem to have been floating around loose prior to the jugs being pulled off.

just because you can "see" crosshatch, doesnt mean the cylinder doesn't need to be honed. enjoyed the video.
