My family has a recipe called chicken noodle. It has three ingredients: Flour, the chicken and the eggs. Make egg noodles with the flour and eggs while boiling the whole chicken. While the noodles dry let the chicken cool, then pick it apart. Use the bones to make broth. Strain the broth and season to your liking, re-add the noodles and chicken, and take off the heat when the noodles have soaked up all of the broth. Animal cruelty has never tasted so good.

NICE John Prine reference! Hey man, the best way to cook rice in a rice cooker is to give'er the finger: Dump in the amount of dry rice you need. Level it in the pot. Slowly fill the container with cold water while you rest the tip of your index finger on the rice. When the water reaches the first joint/line of your finger, that is the perfect amount of water. No Measuring Required, and works every time. I learned this from a Chinese womern who knew her way around a man. And a kitchen!

I guess someone needed to point out how AvE has a blindspot on his brain regarding rice. Seriously, considering how much I learn from you, your rice cooking was cringeworthy. Simply: 1. Don't used par-boiled rice in rice cooker. Par-boiled rice is parboiled, why do you want to boil/steam it for another 30-50 minutes? 2. Most of the white schmoo coming out of the rice is just starch. Won't harm you, but you wash it off so rice isn't too sticky. Most US rices are pretty clean. 3. Pre-soak isn't necessary in rice cooker. Pre-soak softens the rice so grains cook evenly, but a rice cooker generally heat up slowly enough that you don't need to pre-soak. If you are going to cook on stove top, then pre-soak 15-30 minutes. What happens when you pre-soak par-boiled rice? 4. Modern rice was cultivated in China 8000-12000 years ago. Where did you get the idea that Marco Polo took it to China? There are plenty of imported things in China including cucumbers, potatoes, squash, and, surprisingly, hot peppers, but rice is not one of them. BTW, I'm not Chinese. note: Up until late 20th C, Japan and Korea had small stones and other detritous in the rice, that is why they still have a habit of scrubbing, soaking, and washing rice. I think this is from watching grandparents and parents. Nowadays, most major rice factories wash the rice before packaging. A simple rinse will show if anything is inside the rice. Try cooking rice with one rinse, and once with rinse, wash, scrub, and soak; the differences will hardly be noticeable, especially since atmospherical conditions can affect cooked rice just a much. Why did I write this much about rice? I'm not a cook. What is a "Boona End"?

Many Japanese still scrub the hell out of the rice before cooking. especially in the fancy restaurants. Looks better when serving if there are no loose starch between the grains. Most rice sold now are "Musenmai" ( no rinse rice) but they do it anyway. It's kind of a cultural obsession to put in effort even for marginal results I guess. I'm lazy American despite my DNA, so I just rinse once or twice :)
