One moment that I still remember with delight in the enchroma video is how Adam first really 'saw' Steph's eyes. It's so wholesome and adorable, and the first time I saw it, I almost started to cry... So, despite the whole scam/controversy thingy, we at the very least got one of the most wholesome moments on doodle date ever out of it!

I still remember watching that first video many years ago, and it was my introduction to the channel actually. I remember just how sweet the dynamic of your relationship was (and still is) and i was drawn to it. When the scam video popped up i was immediately invested cause I knew you guys had bought those stupid expensive glasses with your own money, as a fellow freelance artist/graphic designer, I can imagine just how ripped off you must've felt. Anyway, if you guys actually try and make your own enchroma glasses with red film I'll definitely be up to watch it.

Came here to basically say the same thing. I saw the big enchroma expose when it dropped, and I was thinking the whole time that Steph and Adam had explained how the glasses help in some situations better than enchroma and other companies. I think the biggest take away from the KZfaq video exposing colorblind glasses were the deceptive marketing practices and the junk science behind it that justified the really high price for simply tinted glasses. Kudos to Steph and Adam for addressing this and driving home how the glasses work and don't work, it's something the companies should've done from the beginning and shouldn't be on the consumer. And also for talking with kindness and vulnerability about sort of being taken advantage of by the high price, even if they "work properly" for Adam, and recognizing that others suffered more if they didn't work for them at all. Definitely a needed perspective on this topic.

As someone that is a long time viewer off this channel and also knows Adam a bit, I can say that he has had a genuine response to the glasses although he probably felt more inclined to be positive in reviewing them and giving them the benefit of the doubt he gave it a honest shot and since he really is someone that has trained his sight in a way to see minuscule differences despite his colour-blindness the glasses where able to help a little. I think you can see it well with how he sees colours that have really minuscule saturation like his watered down watercolours. It will be fun to se if you can replicate the same kind of effect with a red film LOL just sad to see that some ppl are accusing you of giving a false reaction despite you putting your own money into it . Think it is so cool that you are addressing this and also giving an update on how the experience has been.

I had no idea that it’s said colorblind people can see better in the dark. Maybe it has to do with what Steph said earlier where colorblind people’s eyes can detect those shade differences. I did want to say though, Steph if you have astigmatism then that’s probably why your vision isn’t great in the dark. I have astigmatism and I definitely struggle to see in the dark, the adjustment time from light to dark takes a second too

This makes total sense. The glasses don’t have to completely cure color blindness to “work”. My feet are paralyzed, except I can feel the inner arches and just barely feel the big toes. But if I were to take some new medicine and my big toes suddenly started moving, I’d say the medicine worked, even if the rest of my feet were still completely paralyzed. Better usability is still a cure, even if it’s not a complete cure.

My winter sports goggles are tinted (pink) and polarized, and they do change the way my brain sees colours. I'm typically colour sighted, and for me when I put those pink polarized goggles on everything is pink tinted for about 10-15 minutes until my brain adjusts, and at some point 10-15 minutes in white is white again, blue is blue, etc. Reds remain shifted to the point that warm/dark oranges and bright reds look exactly the same. My husband and his brothers in law all have Honda ATVs, two of which are red and one is orange. I cannot tell the difference in the colours while wearing those goggles, no matter how long I wear them. So yes, tinted glasses will change absolutely will change colour perception temporarily while wearing them.

I can relate because my eye sight has changed. I've always had to wear glasses, but my sight is not as good as it was when I was younger. I used to be able to read all but the last couple of rows of letters on the sight test and I need magnifiers to read small print now. I was looking at hands free ones for reading, computer screens and for sewing and the best ones are very expensive. I don't see why folks should have to spend a lot to aid their vision. It has changed because of ageing (which it does) and because I am diabetic. I've been listening to audio books for about a year and I've started building up an audiobook library - I decided to do it now while my sight isn't too bad.

If the glasses boost some colours a bit they might be very useful for artists (fewer colours would look exactly the same), even though they might be useless for others who don't need that? :) My guess is that the reason your eyes hurt from wearing them too long could be because they're not personally tailored to your eyes like normal glasses would be, so your eyes get exhausted trying to see though them. And normally you also get help tweaking the things that go behind your ears too when you buy glasses so that they sit comfortably (except when wearing a headset of course), but buying online they'll just be the same shape and size for everyone.

I am glad to see you guys make this video. Not because I felt like you had been lying this whole time or anything but because several people in my feed recently have decided to jump on the “enchroma is a scam” train and every time it came up I was curious what your take was on it all. Because yeah, a lot of the people I was seeing talking about it were “color-typical” lol. On a similar note, there are glasses made for mushroom foraging that are basically a colored filter meant to help your eyes more easily distinguish mushrooms (specifically, morels if I’m correct) from amongst foliage and shadows. I think the general consensus is that they do help mushrooms stand out more and can help reduce eye strain but most foragers don’t really use them. Which just goes to show that simple colored filters CAN make a difference in how we perceive colors. It is nice to see you discuss the pricing and marketing of it all. Because I think the issue here isn’t really the product because as you say it works perfectly fine as an aid. The issue is more so the way it was sold and advertised. Far too many videos were faked which makes it difficult for people to get a realistic perspective on what to expect. The wording on their website is completely unrealistic and yeah it never should have been proposed as a way to help people with greyscale vision. The level of research you guys did into this before making your purchase is definitely not characteristic of the level of research an average person can or will do. And I think that functionally makes it a scam. Which honestly is so unfortunate considering that, again, they DO have a function. Never doubted you, I always 100% trust your well thought out reviews. Enjoyed your video as always!

My dad is red-green colorblind and I am glad I could never afford the glasses from him, because I just don't think he'd get much use out of them- but then, he's also lived his whole life with it an adapted. He likes to forage for wild food like mushrooms and berries which is the type of thing where you need to know shades of browns and purple mushrooms and red or green berries. It does seem to have an interesting potential for artists, I think that the creator of the video criticizing them was definitely frustrated because as he said, he was already a long-time graphic designer and knew how to modify his process to match sighted vision more accurately. Perhaps there is a place for tinted glasses for people who are learning to adapt their colorblindness to industry standards or something.

When I see the protanopia filter on those crayola markers I totally get how Adam gets pink and light blue confused. Oh also I wonder if part of the headache comes from the glasses having a tint- it might cause your pupils to dilate and let in more light, but doesn't protect from UV like sunglasses would. My mom actually in college did a study on sunglasses and some of them didn't actually have any UV protection so they were actually hurting your eyes by making them dilate but not blocking the harmful light.

I think companies like Enchroma can take advantage of people seeking help with colour blindness because colour blindness receives no support generally by society. It isn't like short- or far-sightedness where prescription glasses are widely available (although still so expensive!!!) and it isn't routinely screened for. It seems so arbitrary which conditions are deemed worthy of being supported or not.

Hey Adam and Steph is there any reliable colorblind tests I could use? It's been a while and I don't think I've ever had a proper one before.

I don't know what is available to you guys, but I just want to mention that you might want to look into hobby lobby if you shop there. The owners are a specific type of christian and use it as justification to do things like withhold access to birth control through their employee medical insurance. The owners were also involved in antiquity theft.

I mean don't eyes hurt when you use normal glasses for the first time also? Like Steff when you got your glasses didn't it take weeks to adjust? Many if Adam had them on for longer it would stop hurting and in the long run many the eyes would adapt even better and see more colors? Many you guys should mail enchroma and ask how it's suppose to work like are people only suppose to use them short periods of time like a fun thing or are they meant to be worn like normal glasses and it gets some time to get used to them? Because I think they would work better if you've had them for a few weeks just like normal glasses. Is there any difference between the inside and outside ones when it comes to hurting?

Has anyone heard of Dyslexia reading glasses? It feel like the same concept where they use a certain tint to help focus better and the letters don't "move" as much, when i fist heard of it i thought it sounded amazing but its hard to find a good amount of people who can talk about their experience with them.

Wait, but in a digital color picker wouldn't you be able to tell grey and pink apart from where they are on the color picker? Like, you generally only get grey towards the bottom of the picker, no? The more up you go, the more pink it gets. I don't do digital art, so maybe I'm wrong and those color pickers are different 😅

The how to cook that video did show that it can help but that the videos of purple sobbing over sunsets were clearly overreacting. The cure vs aids differentiation is something a lot of people (and marketing departments) don't seem to understand. My stick aids my balance but it hasn't fixed the underlying caused. Competely unrelated have you guys been to £land recently? They've got a whole load of awesome looking art things. I got some surprisingly good actual brush makers.

I wonder if your eyes need to learn to adjust to the glasses? i know when I had to have special shoe inserts, I had to start out by wearing them for a short period every day and slowly work my way up to all day. When my feet were adjusting, if I wore them longer than my doc recommended, my feet were very painful. I loved what you said to the company who created the glasses - "Do Better". LOL That is so perfect and so true!

I thought you were very clear in the videos you made about how they worked and to what extent. Not a miracle but an aid that help a bit in some situations. You’ve nothing to worry about. Unfortunately you can’t control what your viewers hear, you can only control what you say. Bizarrely these are not always the same.
