In true England fashion, it's dependent on what team turns up. Look at us this tournament/last game, 1 shot and waiting til the 95th minute is hard to get excited about. We are quick to criticise but we could very easily change the tide with providing more shots on target. More % chance to score and gets the fans on side. I know it looks poor but if we had the same playstyle with more chances but were 2 or 3 up you'd be satisfied. Some stats from the tournament paint the picture. Possession % - 3rd Passing Accuracy - 4th Clean sheets - Joint 3rd Goals - Lowest still remaining in the tournament Attempts - Lowest still remaining in the tournament Attempts on target - Lowest still remaining in the tournament (England have 12 shots on target vs Germany's 28 and Spain's 29). This has to change, we can't keep playing with no chances created, we need to be more direct and create shots on target. It makes no difference if we have the best finisher in football, if you're only able to fashion 1 chance a game vs another teams 5/6 you're playing slim odds.

I am going to back the Swiss to win 1-0. I hope I am wrong, and England can make the semis, but I simply feel that Switzerland are the stronger team. We have good individuals but are not playing as a team, whereas they don't have many big names but have a fantastic team ethic. The players are reluctant to make any incisive runs in behind or passes like that. The pace of play is laboured and we allow the other side to get men behind the ball. We’ve scored a deflected cross, a long throw and a once in a tournament piece of genius. I have a feeling England won’t even score against the Swiss and it will be the same as the previous games.

If players are too tired. Not quite fit after a long season etc. Yet in big games they’re too important to bring off the pitch. Why not start your 2 subs. Whether that’s Palmer / Gordon .. then at half time make changes. That way the big names you’re frightened to bring off when the game reaches its final minutes should easily be able to play 45 minutes and through into Extra time / penalties if that is needed.

This is where England has to stand up and be a team . Be prepared to work harder than them run harder than them to be more switched on than them and hope our class will tell because if not we will lose. And find a way to create chances and shots on goal
