Last year Russel and Bottas crashed in similar circumstances and I doubt Hamilton really cares about being P14 or P13. He wants to win. And surely not to crash into an Alpha Tauri fighting to get either 0 points or 0 points. Hamilton just missed on winning 8th WC a few months ago, he knows how to race and don't really have to prove anything. At the same time Russel has to show off, at least to justify swapping Bottas for him. If Mercedes gets their sh together Hamilton will be again on top, winning races or at least fighting for podiums.

There can be many things that influence Hamilton's recent bad performance. That car is really inconsistent and has a very limited operational window. Russell says that it is a pain to drive, and because both drivers seem to not be particularly comfortable I guess he is right. Maybe Lewis struggles a bit more to get to grips with the new cars. I would say that it's better to wait until the end of the season before drawing any conclusions.

I Think people overlook the Sprint race at imola where George was stuck behind stroll for most of the race but because he got past that enabled him not to be stuck in a drs train unlike lewis. George did drive very well but I think any driver in Lewis' car in that position would have struggled especially with the straight line speed of the Honda. Hamilton may not be winning much right now, but he showed us in Miami that he isn’t beaten easily and still is a sublime driver. Russel and Hamilton are clearly quite even pace wise, only thanks to the safety car Russel ended up beating Hamilton. Russel has proven year after year in the Williams that he is super talented, always beating his teammates by huge margins. Lewis clearly is just as amazing as George, just because he was pretty unlucky in some of the opening races (Miami and Australia) for example, doesn’t mean it’s all over for him.

Bottas/Vettel fan here When you have a car that tends to be unpredictable and hard to drive, it’s very risky to squeeze out the best lap time or have good race pace. This kind of goes for anyone and everyone as all the drivers have had that feeling at some point. Most sympathized for Vettel in 2020 as a fanbase with how Ferrari treated him and the bad circumstances that held him back. For Lewis and Russell, the car just isn’t good, and it doesn’t look safe for the head either. 7 titles don’t come easy. 1 title alone doesn’t come easy for any driver just ask Verstappen. There is still a challenge being had up there whether it’s with someone else or the self. When you have the best car and the best driver they are more than likely to win the championship, it’s an obvious formula and Mercedes made the choice to accept Lewis into their team back in 2013 over Hulkenberg (Which I personally wished they took Hulkenberg but Lewis was a decent fit.) Though eventually there would be a time where Lewis isn’t going to be the same driver he was in previous years. The same goes for Mercedes as well as there will be a time where they won’t be the same team. Though it still seems like there’s still something inside of both of them however. Personally I don’t really see why some parts of social media like to ridicule Lewis since George has joined the team by making a competition. With the position that Mercedes is in, the last thing they want to do is have their drivers fighting it out. It’s more about points and development for the team and for the future in this case, Russell, the driver Lewis picked when he could’ve potentially called on Vandoorne, Guiterrez, De Vries(Maybe not but that would be cool), or even Ocon as his teammates as they all have ties to Mercedes. I’m sure Lewis is doing fine. He has that determination to improve himself and so does Mercedes. You know that side-pods can be shaped in a way that reflect airflow away the back wheels, to help reduce drag too? The side-pods can actually act like aerodynamic fairing for the back wheels. So not having side-pods actually help to increase drag in this case I’m afraid.

It's not Lewis' fault. It's "The 7 Timers' Curse"...for whatever reason, in motor sports in particular, when drivers reach the 7 time champion status, they hit the wall, figuratively, of course. While they may not drop off abruptly, There is a noticeable difference in their career. A short list of names; A.J. Foyt, Michael Schumacher, Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Jimmie Johnson, and Lewis Hamelton. I will admit winning 1 championship is hard, much less 7. But, I just find it interesting. Not only do they not win championships, but crazy things seem to come out of no where. They win #7 and everything seems to change, they stop winning as much and they have alot of bad luck where it seems in previous seasons they would avoid the bad luck. It may or may not be a curse, but it's certainly something to think about. :)

He will be back I am sure I mean he is on 5 podium hot streak and the car slowly but surely up there for a race win maybe even 2 and who knows with the TD in spa… anything to happened. Imola overtaking was made difficult due to half the track being wet and only the racing line was dry. Could not go off the racing line even with using drs. Top of that looks like braking is an issue with porpoising

My problem with his Imola performance he was dangerously close to being out in Q1 with Albon car on fire and Ocon car failure. Yes I won’t need to go into his Q2 as he got unlucky with track evolution due to Carlos red flag. Jeddah was a rough race and while he’s struggling. George puts it into the top 5 including coming from out of the points and catching up to Lewis even passing him. I won’t say washed up as he’s still a great driver, George is just adapting quicker to the car ( adapting does not mean he’s finding it easy)

One bad start to a season does not mean his glory days are over. If the car is not performing well it does not matter how good the driver is he will struggle for position. He is still the greatest driver of his generation, maybe of all time. Yet, unlike other drivers he doesn't piss and moan about it. He gets his head down and tries to make the most of it. Unless you have driven an F1 car you cannot really comment on whether a driver's glory days are over. It's easy to drive perfectly from an arm chair, it always is. Everyone is making assumptions as to his ability to race. It's very easy to judge a race or driver post mortem. It's a very different thing to do in real time from the drivers seat. So to all armchair drivers (myself included), let's stick to what we do best, cheer the drivers/teams that we like and disparage the ones we don't 😜.

That Hamilton in 2022 had monitoring sensors and extra balace weight to try sort out the really poor W13s porpoising so if you got to compare Hamilton with George you have got to look more towards the end of 2022 and the whole majority of 2023

I am confident that Hamilton will bounce back. An angry and motivated Hamilton is a better driver and racer than a passive one. Russell doing better now will only motivate to improve his performance, communication and push himself harder in the season. Hamilton will probably out qualify Russell over the season. I think he is a faster driver over one lap. But Russell has that Button quality to him where he is able to strategize well race in races and maximize points without actually being faster in race pace.

Interesting video, thanks. As a LH fan, and an F1 fan since 1986, I’ve seen a lot of F1 races. Personality though I believe his state of mind is his biggest issue. This is clearly evident by the success of his talented younger teammate. They both have very similar if not identical cars on race day yet the results are exactly what we’ve all seen so far.. What happened last year in Abu Dhabi broke him MENTALLY, coupled with all the off tracks issues with FIA rules.,…. The very entity whom he believed ROBBED him. Sure the car has be a challenging factor to some degree with its issues, however George is making the most of that situation and it’s not because he’s more talented than Lewis. At the very least, Lewis should be closer to his teammate if not ahead PERIOD! To his credit so far, George has simply gotten the job done through consistency.,…. he has out qualified, had better race pace, and even come from behind and beaten Lewis so far this season. Meanwhile Lewis has been underperforming each race weekend, but somehow managing to have senseless feuds over jewelry rules with the FIA. It's difficult coming from the best to anything less, he is a great driver but he is older and having to adapt older in life is more difficult than when you are younger. Russel had a great race in Miami maybe even the best of the day. Russel knows how to handle a difficult car coming from Williams and Hamilton doesn't, Mercedes has definitely got it wrong but would I rule any off them just yet , no.
