I want to highlight that when you think there is something wrong with your ears, go to a doctor! Physical malfunctioning can not be solved by training!

Bud Marcom is it hard to stay consistent, or do you just set a time each day?
@exteriorsigns5 жыл бұрын
@@domdraper3221 It isn't really hard to have a daily routine because the guys who made Soundgym really understand incentives. So i'm drawn to reaching their prizes/goals, as silly as that seems. Plus i have my own system on the side to ensure i get in enough practice with it. I have graph paper that I give myself a check on after doing an exercise for instance. And i love seeing the graph paper fill up with these checks. It's just another incentive. I have set a limit for myself as to how many games i'm going to play however. I'm gonna probably taking a break after completing 4,000 games. I'm at about 3,000 now.

Big fan of SoundGym here, nice to see your review. Really recommend this service. The panning game revealed serious issues with my imaging (despite a fair amount of acoustic treatment). It motivated me to rebuild my acoustic treatment and now it's so much better! Lol @ the guys thinking that you've "failed the most important skill" or that you need to know what 3500 Hz sounds like to make a good mix etc. That's like saying a pianist who doesn't have perfect pitch can't play or that a producer without knowledge of music theory is automatically crap at producing. People seem to forget music is about FEELING sound. Maybe the same people who need to check how many likes they are getting on social media to see if other people like them? ;) Keep it up, Wytse.

very interesting... I found that the compressor test was way hard for me because I tend to go for segregated dynamic compression, simply to bring up elements to cut through a mix and perhaps not as much to bring balance to the given sound. So without seeing the boosts and the cuts and makeup gains etc it was hard to determine what the test deems "compression" and how I hear it when I use it kind of thing... well played and great vid

These exercises work great for frequency and location training. I only have the free membership for Soundgym because I think they are overpriced for what they offer, but there are many similar tools that are less expensive and more focused or broad, depending. The Quiztones apps are cool, Studio Ears is good, too, and mynoise.net (I think) has similar tools. It's amazing how much improvement just a little bit of practice every day makes, but I still can't quite get compression/dB changes as well as I'd like. I'm wondering if I have an issue that hampers dynamic sensitivity. I seem to need MASSIVE changes in compression to really be able to pick out things like pumping that others seem to hear so easily.

You are totally right in that you can train this stuff. How about you do another video of this in two weeks, and show us how much better you got? :-) (you could even livestream the practice sessions if that sort of thing motivates you--though I'm not sure how useful a 15 min livestream is, haha)

Man I find EQ'ing the hardest thing to do because of all the variables,, mostly the room you are listening in has its own sound regardless of your speakers, not everyone has a perfectly "flat room" so you are not hearing the actual response of your monitors, you are also hearing your "ROOM"
@riffpad5 жыл бұрын
I don't want to say you failed at basic balancing of instruments and frequencies that some others are saying. @Daminatovideo4 жыл бұрын
I disagree with this (not 100% of course, just a little). It teaches you to really focus on nuances (as you said) because it's a game and most humans innately want to win and be above average, knowing how I fit in vs other users is depressing in one way and revealing in another. For me after a few hours it made me realize that there are some frequency bands that I really don't "Know" well or maybe for what ever reason not comfortable boosting or removing them. This game forces you to be a more rounded engineer and quickly reveals your weakness's. I hope this platform keeps expanding. Like for example a good game would be "Master this track" & "Remove the offending frequency"
