not a bad price, but these are house hubs. You can get similar spec from Elite, Yuanan (the OEM for Elite), if you email far sports you can bespoke the same thing as well, and in all 3 instances, you'll probably pay a bit less. For an off the shelf product though, it's nice. Carbon rims are crazy commoditized now. everybody and their uncle is either making rims, or selling rims. Would be interested to know if Magene is MAKING them or just buying them OEM from somebody else. In fact, far sports maybe ;)

Do these come with ceramic or steel bearings? With an internal width on 23, would it be easier to mount road tires?

I have a set of these wheels and have had them since Jan 24. I have 8,000k on them and they are fantastic. Fast, smooth and all importantly trouble free, Easy to set up as tubeless or clincher. I opted for clincher set-up and TPUs. The hubs are easy japanesy to service and maintain.

DT Swiss hub "style" don't mean DT Swiss reliability. I got a set of highly praised wheelset by Hambini and hub went crunchy after one wet ride. Problem with those type of product is not if they can produce something quality, but can they deliver quality consistently. In my case, obviously it wasn't an Hambini special. I was able to return the wheel and get my money back. Now I have a set with authentic DT Swiss 240 hub. It's been reliable. Basically it depends on how much of a gamble you are ready to take and how easy/costly is it for you to ship back to the manufacturer in case of a problem.

@@etgrcc I have several Farsport wheels with several tousands kilometers and have no problem with their hubs. For me. Farsport Hypers are the best value wheels. And I had plenty of different wheels.

@rhozjan I know their rim is good and stay true even go over the pot holes. I am using their kaze series for my rim brake bike. Recently they have their in-house dt swiss hub rd261 which review by habini. There are not much review for this hub.

Another great review! Thoughts on 19mm internal + 30mm tires VS 23mm internal + 28mm tires? Assuming TPU tubes or tubeless

go 23mm if you are buying now the tire fits the rim so much better and you get added comfort to the ride, it pairs with the rim wall better making it aprofile

@@GCPerformance18 thanks! I have 19mm wide now (which came with the bike) but I'll look for 23mm if I ever decide to upgrade. I was thinking to go 30mm tires with my existing rims to buy comfort but it might light bulb too much!

when using a wheel like this with TPU tubes, don't you have to use rim tape? I just ordered the ICAN 52 WD (21 ID, 30 OD). The ICANs have Sapim steel spokes which I feel more secure riding. I'm not sure what I think about CF spokes although I saw a video where a guy spins the wheel and opens a beer bottle on the spokes.

Yes you'll need to use rim tape with the tpu tube or else the tube will pop as it'll force it's way into the spoke holes

Noob here. I see these come with Shimano freehub. If I have SRAM, do I need to order with SRAM XDR driver? Buy separately and swap in (somehow)?

if you have sram axs 12 speed you need sram xdr, if you have sram red 11 speed or less you need the shimano freehub

I can agree with the comfort claims of wider tires but the more speed claim, well, I can't get on board with that one because I've switched back and forth between 26mm and 28mm to test it several times and I'm slower on the 28mm tires. The handling of wider tires is slower too. I'm staying with 26mm tires.

How deep and wide are your rims? The aero penalty may be higher if narrow and shallow. Also, tire pressures will have an impact, not to mention road surface.

@@redkeyspoke I have four sets of wheels all set up differently. My fastest wheels are the 25mm deep aluminum rims that are 21mm internal width and use Sapin spokes. I have Boyd 36 Carbon rims that are wider and 28mm tires are a perfect profile for aero but the wheels just make me feel slower and feel like I have to work harder. Road surfaces are mixed but I have to do a crap load climbing because that's how it is where I live. Lots of up and down and twisty turning, no flat straight roads.

@@charlesmansplaining thanks for continuing the conversation. Seems like ideal terrain for minimizing weight, and if you've got good, smooth road surfaces rolling resistance is probably a wash. The lab tests that show lower losses for wider are on smooth drums without accounting for lowering pressure to reach a similar comfort level. The inner cynic in me thinks all the wide tire hype is to encourage sale of new bikes, wheels, etc. But, there's no denying that 28s feel nicer at a lower pressure on rough surfaces like chip seal. And, theres nothing stopping lighter riders from having a lightweight aero set up that is comfortable with 25s, assuming they avoid hitting obstacles that cause pinch flats. To summarize, I don't think it's 'wider is better' so much as 'wide enough to run a low enough pressure to reduce vibration losses is ideal'. Or something. Also, the wheel set I built myself is 21mm internal aluminum Velocity Quills with Sapim D-lites. I don't have experience with carbon but they definitely are better suited to 28s than the 14mm! Internal rims that came with the bike.

@@GCPerformance18 Price is below 1.000usd with code FAR-OFF-50. On their custom build site Wheelsfar, you have multiple options (rim finish, hubs,...). With RD270 hub, the 50mm deep wheels are about 1.200g and 58mm are below 1.300g. Excellent wheels. Lightweight, stiff, comfortable, and excellent in cross-winds.

We have a business that retails and wholesales magene products. We've order tens of thousands of dollars worth of stock from magene. Most larger ticket items work fine. Power meters are great but when it comes to after sales support, they are a dumpster fire. Magene is a big brand but their wholesale after sales support and warranty process is absolutely unforgivably shit. GC, dont plug magene.

@GCPerformance18 I can confirm. I had a warranty issue with magene and pandapodium. Magene didn't want to grant the warranty, even though I did everything to videorecord the issue with one of their powermeter cranksets. In the end, pandapodium refunded me out of their own pockets because Magene didn't cooperate. Joe personally apologized, because this whole dispute lasted for over 2 month and I had to make like 30 videos and magene still didn't believe it was a manufacturing issue. That's why I don't buy from them again
