Called Sentry safe. They're sending me a replacement, but they're on back order. Waiting is unacceptable. As my warranty had expired, your option was what I was searching for. Purchased one for 2/$20 at Amazon. Must've been a price drop. I installed mine by detaching the spring side, unscrewing both ends of the old piston, and screwing in the new piston. Thanks for the link for the replacement piston. It made the search so much easier.

Thanks for the video. FYI, There is no need to unscrew the door side fitting. The door fitting will pull off of the ball stud if you pry out on the metal spring clip with moderate force. There is a notch in the top of the door fitting that provides an access point to get a small screw driver or scribe under the spring clip to pry it out.

I called SentrySafe about my safe's strut and they sent a replacement for free. This one was much better than the one in the safe.

Thank you, Brandon, for these helpful videos about the SentrySafe Biometric safe. My strut has gotten lazy so I will be ordering a pair soon. BTW, they are still available for 12.99 at Amazon at this time. I'll add a couple more tips that have proven useful for me. I just have the one safe in a bookcase headboard. 1) When I go to bed I put the override key in and give it a half turn. That keeps it from popping back out and leaves it ready to quickly turn and open the safe even faster than swiping your fingerprint. In the morning I pull the key and put it back on my keychain. This is something that the belt and suspender types among us will appreciate. I started doing this when I first got the safe and I was unsure how much to trust the biometric function. Now it's turned into habit. 2) You can more securely mount this safe to a shelf by using short carriage bolts (5/16"-18 ~ 1" to 1 1/4") fed from below through holes drilled in the shelf. Install and securely tighten the hex nuts inside the safe. The rounded edge of the carriage bolt set into the bottom of the shelf will be hard to grasp which helps prevent removal of the safe.

Brandon You're a lifesaver! Your suggestions were spot-on. I bought the package of springs from Home Depot and didn't change the spring. How do you know if the spring needs changing and/or can I add one of the smaller springs on top of the original or replacement spring? Thanks for everything.

I want to order these struts, BUT now one of the Sentry safes has a different problem. It is stuck in the OPEN position. In other words, the locking mechanism (next to the batteries), is open and won't lock. Even when I use the key, I turn the key and the locking "bar" does not slide into the open space/groove where it is located. Anyone else have this problem?
