The more effort we put into a photo, the better it gets. Or doesn't it? I mean, does the viewer recognize all the effort, at all? Is it maybe better just - to take a shot - instead of hours, weeks, or even months of planning?

You describe the scene as " nothing special " but people would travel half way round the world to find a place as beautiful as the one you live in ! To you it was just everyday scenery, just a place you go running..... until your mind saw its true beauty, and you awoke to its magic. So lovely that you could capture that magic with your skills.

Hi Joy, yes, you are absolutely right. We tend to think our neighborhood would not be photogenic, just because it feels normal to us. But every place has to offer something magical. Thank you for the reminder 😉 Nice greetings, Christian

Great video Christian. I would be happy with one outstanding shot than a whole bunch of random shots. So yes, I would put effort into the one shot. Beautiful images you showed my friend. Well done 👍 🙏

Hi Adrian, yes, I also think like that. And the amount of effort variates quite a lot between my photos. But I think, it is especially that versatility that I'm enjoying here. I absolutely like your photos, by the way! Landscapes as well as wildlife in your amazing area 😊 Enjoy your weekend, Christian

I usually get my best shots when a little planning or scouting is involved.

Good to do both. It's a matter of training our spontaneity as well, and you can then afterwards, when you're at the computer, select images according to art and image science and trends.

Hi Thomas, yes, I like also both ways 😊 In my experience, the amount of practice has already a huge impact on getting quick shots as well. Nice greetings, Christian

Wow! You live in a beautiful place, and it makes me happy you are able to are able to share it with your beautiful photos and videos. Thank you. I find I get just as much satisfaction from recognizing a scene and capturing a good composition from it as I do planning and capturing a composition. For me, too much planning feels contrived, while recognizing and capturing a scene feels more real and natural. Of course the same attributes of light, texture and composition apply in both cases, and capturing a feeling from a random scene is often more challenging.

Hi David, thanks a lot, my friend - and also for your insights, which are absolutely plausible to me! It is really great, which amazing versatility landscape photography seems to offer. Even the amount of effort is a factor that can help to bring variety into the game. And yes, I would not put months and years of planning into each of my photograph. Just for very selected ones 😊 Enjoy your weekend, Christian

Great video and some fantastic photos 👍 Flow over Austria at sunrise today and the conditions looked amazing with some fog and white peaks 👍

Hi Stig, great that you flew over 😊 Yes, the higher peaks are still snow-covered here, which gives such a fantastic accentuation for vista shots. That is something that gets often overlooked when spring is kicking in and we just look at the lush greens in woodland. Nice greetings, Christian

If the light is good. I bring two cameras with me. One with APS-C sensor and one with fullformat sensor. Then I can take pictures of eagles or landscapes if I want to. I´ll make the decision on the location.

Hi Marcus, thank you for your insights, my friend! That's a great idea. Especially when you have brought your camera already into setup and you are waiting for the light, you have a second body with you to shoot something different. I also did that for many years, just not eagles, but details in landscapes with a longer lens handheld. That was before I started with KZfaq. Now I have all hands to do with recording the video besides taking my shots 😊 But maybe I should give it a try again. We will see. Nice greetings, Christian

I really like that image. The effort you put into it, is the years of experience you have in composing, recognising scenes that will result in a good shot, estimating the weather conditions, etc!

I do not believe that it is a binary choice about much work and simple photo. The art is in recognizing the photo, the light and choosing the composition. The photo is the answer not the amount of work that goes into the photo. I prefer the first photo over the second. Art isn't the amount of effort that is put into it but the product. Mozart wrote some of his best compositions quickly. Doesn't make them NOT art.
@christian.irmler

Hi Erich, that is an interesting example you gave with Mozart. Thank you therefore! Absolutely, yes. When we are aware of the way how to create art, it could happen that there come out also a couple of great works without a lot of effort in the end. Thank you for the reminder and have a great weekend, Christian

It sounds to me like you are suffering from a variety of imposter syndrome, as you suspected, because it seemed too easy. Nevertheless, the images in your selected set of extensively planned images were objectively better. This doesn't validate the benefit of extensive planning, so much as it shows that a curated subset of your favorite images selected from years of work, are on average better than the ones you took the other day. This is normal.
@christian.irmler
@christian.irmler 4 ай бұрын
Hi Daemon, I never saw it like that, to be honest. I always thought, imposter syndrome would be more something that is completely blocking someone's creativity. You are right: quick shots are the result of years of experience. That is maybe something we should never forget. Thanks a lot for your constructive comment, my friend 😊 Nice greetings, Christian

@@christian.irmler You're welcome. Typically, imposter syndrome doesn't prevent performance, it makes you doubt the quality of your performance and ability to perform, though often this drives high achievers to strive for perfection. By definition, you have to be competent to suffer from it. It's a lot more common than people realize, though not nearly as common as Dunning Kruger effect :)
