Currently have 50 bags, mostly designers, a few contemporary. I plan on maintaining that number because 1) space; 2) with that number, I can make sure that each bag can be used for about a week within a year (52 weeks). Aiming for a curated collection, but soooo hard because those bags are "trophies" for me, for achievements in life. The positive association makes it so hard to let go of any of them!

I label myself a lover of handbags!!! I do own several vintage pieces I no longer use. The older I get the less I need so last year I gave away bags to my granddaughters, family and friends over 75 bags. This how I see it if you have 1 bag, 55 bags or over 100 who am I to judge. Every person regardless of income deserves to own a beautiful handbag. Great topic Autumn!!!

I'm in the majority for two reasons: 1) Two kids and a stingy husband, 2) Not enough storagte room. My mother-in-law thinks my collection of a dozen or so bags is too many. P.S. When we were cleaning out her house before she sold it, I saw a lot of dated designer bags. She had at least as many as I have. Hypocrite that she is!

@@AutumnBeckman To tell you the truth, she's not a very nice person and has double standards. Also, since she no longer travels, she promised me the Louis Vuitton passport holder we bought for her more than 15 years ago. She insisted it was in the house. It wasn't. I think she gave it to her daughter or granddaughter, which I understand, but she didn't have to be deceptive about it. Ugh!

I think I’m a maximalist. 50-100 bags is where I’m at. I love my contemporary bags and buying a favorite style in different colors! Coach has been taking all of my money. This video was really well thought out and challenge me to self reflect more. Thank you!

Prior to watching this video, I considered myself "curating" my collection. I try to be deliberate in my purchases so that each bag fits a different need in my collection whether it be size, shape or color. I am likely in the 25-50 range but your video has prompted me to take a count!

I guess I’m a handbag collector, with periods of actual curation mixed in my 20+ years of collecting. When I started, I was pretty much 100% Coach and Michael Kors because that’s what I could afford. Five years ago, I swung hard in the direction of luxury brands, and began a curation of limited edition Speedys. Now I’ve sold most of those, and have a more balanced collection from various fashion houses - luxury and contemporary. At any given time, I’ve always owned around 30 bags. My “curated” collection now consists of bags I will actually use and wear, things that are more functional for my very boring life. 😂

I fall in the 50-100 range but it’s sometimes a struggle to remain there. I could easily get into the 100+range quickly. I’m a lover of handbags and have been since I was small. I’ll always love them 😊. I’m excited for your coach videos too!

I have 30ish bags. I’m trying to be more intentional about rotating my bags and using all of them. I’ve recently sold/moved on a few that I no longer use. It feels good to let go and make room for things that serve my current life better. We each have things we love to collect, handbags are my thing.

I love handbags…period…I like to think I’m a collector, however, I’m probably all of the above.😂 this is where your handbag organizer comes in a necessity, for me. It helps me to see on paper, the pros and cons, price, quality…etc Not to mention it’s very handy for insurance purposes. The organizer also helps me due to the fact that I sell a bag and then decide I need to repurchase the same bag. Thank you Autumn your Chanel is the best.❤

I love handbags and I see a lot of bags I want to buy. But I don’t need it and I often think it’s better to save the money. So I have a limit of bags I can buy in a year. So far so good. I haven’t bought any this year so far.

Very interesting video. I am now a collector with around 100 mostly contemporary bags. I buy what I like, but I have started to be more selective due to space. I love switching my bag, sometimes daily, and need to have options. I also like to look at my collection and admire it, like art 😊 I’m not into clothing or shoes. Bags are my accessories that make me feel stylish.

I’m a bag hoarder. I would call myself a collector if I displayed my bags, or used them all in rotation. I’m just someone who loves bags and buys them when I find them affordable or a good deal. I’ve gone through brand loyalty stages. Now, I just grab whatever I like. I do sell or do gate some periodically. But I think I probably have over 70 handbags. If you included reusable shopping bags and thermos totes that number would go way higher.

Such an insightful commentary, thanks Autumn. Because I lost my mother too young to addiction, I do have a problem with creators whose content regularly includes the casual use of the word. They do their followers a disservice by making a serious illness sound like fun. On a lighter note, I'll love to see your Coach series. Coach was my first luxury interest in the 90's, when they were an elegant, equestrian-themed brand, similar to Hermes. They went really young & flashy in the aughts, and I think lost their way. Btw, I consider myself a collector, with about 75 bags.

Great video. I had to rewind to write down the quote. I have 13 bags, mostly contemporary. I’m 54 and have had many bags that I used until they were worn out. I still have a “scarcity mentality” when it comes to things I purchase for myself, even though I can easily afford to buy higher end bags. My favorite things are sunglasses, shoes, and bags.

I haven't actually counted my bags, but I imagine I have at least 50. I'd consider myself a collector, since I have made a point to collect from a range of designers, not focused on any one brand. Problem is, I like every new trendy bags that come out, which is impossible to buy within a budget. So now I'm pondering more about inspired bag choices, too, to fill in the gaps, and be able to take advantage of trends without the huge price tags. Such a quandary. Gee....maybe I am borderline obsessed with bags! LOL

I have over 25 hangbags easily. I went through a number of years of enthusiasm for certain brands...started with Dooney, and Michael Kors; but now love Coach, Longchamp, Karl Lagerfeld and some little known Italian leather bags. Tried to find interest in Portland Leather Goods. I bought one small pouch from them and that was it. I am into the small bum bag Lululemons right now for day wear. Just enough to hold my essentials running around town as a retired lady. I finally slowed way down in my purchases since I have no daughters that I would pass any of these down to. I have nightmares of these bags winding up at my local thrift store or in a garage sale for a couple of bucks! Of course I might buy a bag a year now if I really have to have one, but not seeking any in particular out.

I would say I’m an enthusiast and collector ; I just love my bags but I do have some emotional connections to some I own that I just don’t use , I can say those are difficult for me to let go and for now I will still keep. I do have some other bags that I never reach for and I am selling about 5 bags out of my 65 bag collection ; I have never actually counted my bags until now 😅 I just buy bags that I love , I do take time when I buy my bags , I do my research on my bags before I buy and I watch a ton of videos before I actually purchase. I like handbags - I don’t love them and cannot fathom spending so much on them to have a collection of luxe ones. As for luxury bags, I have under 10 and if I had many more,they would become just bags and would cease to be special. While ‘collecting’ isn’t right for me, I do like seeing what other people are drawn to and collect - like visiting museums I guess. I disagree that money can always be made, especially as you age. Most couples in their mid 70s would have to rely on savings and their saved pension rather than any paid work they could get.

I am a minimalist in most areas and allow small collections of the things I love.. handbags, accessories, makeup, and perfume. No curation or obsession, either. Shopping (handbags or otherwise).. for me.. is a fun occasional activity enjoyed with my daughters or my mom. ~Mia 💜

I consider myself a curator- my goal is to have a handbag for all my occasions and outfits. I feel if I make well thought out decisions I shouldn’t need any more than my current #15. I have sold a few over the years as my style has changed and I have brought in new bags. That being said I just purchased #16- a Saint Laurent Kate 99 raffia cutie. Much different than my other bags so I may hold at 16 and see how it goes.

I have space constraints, but I’d also be reluctant to obtain more bags than fit my lifestyle as they wouldn’t be used regularly. I feel like bags not being regularly used may be more susceptible to degrading (for example mildew could take hold if you’re not regularly inspecting and using). I think there may be a cultural aspect to the number of bags people amass too…some cultures are less consumerist than others. You know Autumn, I’ve seen some Coach collectors say they’ve lost sight of what they like, as they are now more interested in buying a rare piece than a piece they find beautiful.

I am a luxury KZfaqr and I “only” have about 20-25 bags. I feel like that’s a great number for me. I’m able to use every bag in my collection and I love that. Im not sure what I would consider myself. I do get overwhelmed and anxious if there is clutter and/or too much unnecessary stuff around me. I do frequent declutters in my entire house.

I agree with so much of what you say that if I tried to write everything I agreed with I would have to type up the transcript of virtually the whole video!!! I would have hundreds of bags if I had the space to store them, not to mention the money to pay for them! Agreeing about use of the word ‘collector’, I would describe my bags as an accumulation. There is no order to any of it. It is just what inspired me at the time, true even of the brands I most favour, such as Leather Satchel Company and Oroton. I do waffle on endlessly about Birkins and Kellys but that is more humour than serious obsession. One thing I am a little obsessive about is books. I love books but even then, though I have thousands, it is an accumulation not a true collection. There is no theme or order. Just books I want to read or look at. One bag which could end up being a collection is the LV Speedy. I have three canvas Speedys and two epileather. Sure to be more of those in time especially a damier azzure ! Thank you for the video!

Loved this conversation, I would describe you as a professional handbag connoisseur. So much of what I know about handbags is from watching your presentations about the bags and hearing what you appreciate about bags as helped me appreciate leather, design, functionality…. So you still are teaching! Maybe we need a new name for this category. We call a wine professional a sommelier, what should we name a handbag professional? Also I started loving and buying my handbag collection during the pandemic. I’d be curious to know what new hobbies, collections, habits etc, that time in history launched.

Don’t know how many I have. I purchase what I like. My teenage daughter will threaten me when she is mad by saying she will go into my closet and count how many bags I have and tell my husband/her father! I just laugh. I’m blessed to have a career that allows me to purchase what I want when I want for the most part.

I have 9 coach bags, 4 cheap/ target bags and 4 wristlets/ night out bags. I have a few cheap totes as well but realistically only 1 of my coach purses is expensive, the rest were bought at the outlet. The only reason I don’t have a bigger collection is $$$. The bags I have are functional and strategically bought for the colors and or function. A few years ago I got rid of most of my cheap bags because I don’t like that the faux leather peals after a while so I’ve been buying real leather or canvas. There are a few luxury bags I’d love but I wouldn’t buy more than 1 unless I won the lottery and I don’t play so never lol. I wouldn’t mind having different colors and styles of luxury bags but if I got the few that I want I’d be happy. - I feel you on the growing up in a volatile house, both my parents did drugs, dad was an alcoholic as well and we never had matching furniture. I lived with my grandma and after I finished high school my grandma bought new living room furniture and let me help, I loved the living room. I wasn’t a hoarder but my family was borderline, my grandma grew up in the depression so she was very much a, save everything for later but she was in the army in WW2 so she also liked a tidy house. I struggle with clutter but I also take time to go through my stuff and donate or throw away things every few months so I don’t hoard but my surfaces do get cluttered because I get lazy about putting things away, but I don’t let it get out of hand. Anyway, I wouldn’t categorize myself as a collector but a handbag lover who just doesn’t have a ton.

Thank you for this video, love it! Sorry late to the poll: I have 20 "luxury" bags (inc. chanel, goyard, etc..) which includes about 7 coach bags that I LOVE even more than the "fancy" bags. I have many other cheap bags, they might not count toward the total but they count toward being too "enthusiastic". If my finances were better I would own waaaay too many bags. I would buy a bag/slg/accessory a day probably tbh.

Not sure how many bags I have, but you’ve inspired me to count them & I will let you know. I’m estimating around 25-30 but will see. I buy what I like, luxury, contemporary or whatever, so maybe I’m an enthusiast? Your thoughts? Anyone? Great subject for sure!

I recently did a count and was shocked to find out I had about 50! I don’t really collect bags either, but I’m turning 50 and stuff just accumulated throughout years. I was surprised I still had this much as I decluttered a bunch several years ago! I love my bags and have many inexpensive ones that are unique and functional. If I only had branded bags I would probably have a lot less due to pricing but we have so many choices vintage.I was shocked to see my mom is still using a quilted Ann Taylor bag that I used so much in my late teens! I like to shop in boutiques that have cute but not too well known brands as they have unusual designs and cute colors, etc. I am shocked that since last year, I’ve fallen in love with my well designed $20 canvas tote bag for work! I have seriously not changed out of for nearly one year even though I have since bought several large canvas ones. I never thought I had this much because I didn’t count the backpacks, totes, clutches, wocs as bags but they really are.

Don’t know how many I have. I purchase what I like. I consider myself a collector. I do try to have a type of handbag (clutch, crossbody etc) in every color. I am pretty sure I passed 100 a long time ago. My teenage daughter will threaten me when she is mad by saying she will go into my closet and count how many bags I have and tell my husband/her father! I just laugh. I’m blessed to have a career that allows me to purchase what I want when I want for the most part. I enjoy handbags as functional art pieces. I don’t care if they are a designer bag worth thousands or made by an indigenous person that costs $5. I like what I like. Thank you for your intelligent well thought out videos. They are refreshing change from most of the videos posted by other content creators.

Personally if I have a lot of things I’m not enjoying or using I feel bad. I fall in the biggest percent group on that poll. But I think owning however many bags is a personal choice, do whatever makes you happy

My best friend would never pay more than 20 dollars on a handbag, she carries a small bag she gets from a second hand store, she thinks I’m nuts if I spend 100 dollars 😂

I am sure I am all them: bag enthusiast, collector, and horder depending on who is judging and labeling me. But then I am also old, young, chubby, thin, tall, and short depending on whose judging me there too and since their perspective is their reality it will always be changing but I am always the same person, no matter what some random person says or judges in their comments. I have lots of bags that are the same size. and they serve the same purpose that all my handbags serve and carry things🤭, but seriously, I love to wear different colors or styles with a variety of outfits or when I am in different moods. They're cute and bring joy. where in this world can you find a place where all is right and has its place and you have complete control over everything AND its cute too. Only a handbag. Nothing else but that. Soo label away. I've been called worse with nothing but anger and lies to back it up. But here there is clear evidence, I have well over 50 bags and i am completely unrepentant and loving every one. And using most of them. Just not daily, obviously. 😉

Propably people who watch handbag videos have more bags than "average person". I think I do. I would choose "enthusiast" for myself. I would by more, and more expensive bags, if I was in that financial position. But also when I consider buying, I try to think, do I have a similar one already, and which one would I rather wear. There are only so many days in a year to wear them. And I mostly use big practical bags, so buying smaller, prettier bags doesn't make sense, even when those are ones that make my heart skip 😅

I guess I am an enthusiast?! I have 8 bags. I plan to add one more to it after reaching a personal goal. But at that point I plan to stop adding only when the bags I use become worn out. I got 3 crossbody 1 black and 1 color both formal style and 1 casual. Have 2 tote bags for work. All coach 1941 line of bags. One everyday throw around bag from fossil and 1 Portland leather to get a taste of full grain leather. Yet to get Henry’s bag and then I told myself be done with it. I can afford luxury bags but can’t justify the price tag for what they are.

I became a bag afficianado because of my father. He would carry bags as a professor and 🎨. My family has a recording of me at the mall, at 4 years old singing " I love my shoes 👞, I love my bag" (Gen X) I am a bag addict. There will always be a bag. I am a collector. I sell my bags to make room. I carefully decide what I will sell to make room, what will I carry, all of which are based on personal experience and mood.

On a different note totally agree with you about the vintage or preloved coach. The leather from 2006-2009 is amazing. I came across a black pebled leather so thick and amazing in a small Chelsie flap shoulder bag with a turn lock and contrast stitching from 2009 and a tote in 2009 called the Hampton by the seller but I have doubts on its name as when I type hampton tote a bunch of nice leather totes come up in a different leather and style, but not that black pebbled leather one with a turn lock front pocket from 2009. Seems to go with the Chelsea shoulder bag, like the same collection. This 2009 pebbled black leather wears amazingly. I wonder what collection this is?

I have 20 or less bags. I like handbags and I buy what I like but at the same time I try not to have more than I can use. If I could get down to 10 or less that would be ideal because I am at home most of the time and I do not get a chance to use everything. Like I said I like handbags but I am really more into clothing.

I don’t think I’m any of them. In the past I’d spend thousands of dollars on new handbags that I used less than a handful of times because they weren’t particle. I bought them because they were pretty. Now days I only buy handbags that are particle and ones I know I’ll use. I chose to live in a small expensive place on the coast which in my nice part of California is wicked expensive. I also choose to drive nice German luxury cars so that’s where I spend my money. Luxury handbags are well thought out these days.

Love this video and can't wait for your Coach videos. I call myself a collector, I have way over 100 bags. I had my office closet designed to just hold my bags and slgs. I buy bags because I like them. I enjoy changing my bag daily to match my outfits. ❤

Yes, my brother has bipolar disorder and has a never ending collection (not bags). He spends money on the collection to his detriment…he can’t afford food or housing but spends on the collection. At times he will go hungry and sleep rough…but the collection never suffers.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it's totally fun to have handbags....they don't judge. I love that you used the word enthusiasts....I definitely like to associate myself being a fashion enthusiasts...and have way more clothes than I have bags. I am also definitely a maximalist, no holding back there. To me it is a sense of self expression and I dress to make me feel good. Sometimes I wear certain items as an armour...when I know I have to go into a meeting, I know those people don't car, but I care about how I feel, is this insecure, likely it is...but meh
