I think that is the issue, people probably don't have a good gauge of the effort, discomfort and feel of what RIP and co consider to be a workout of suitable intensity. I don't think I have ever gone to that level in my training either and I have nothing but respect for those that do.

When I did Texas method 4 day split the 5x5 squats killed me. It’s a brutal program but it works if you are focused on pushing the numbers up come hell or high water

Telling you this man knows what he's talking about it all makes sense trust me I've gotten stronger the very same day they thought they were not struggle with these principles it didn't even take six months or a year it took one day in a second of believing in oneself. He's telling the truth I promise

Hey rip I am 5'10 1\2 and weight 210 lbs fatbody 24.17% . Ffmi 22.57 lbm 159.25 lbs. My lift is interment level. I am age 40. My heavy I ever weight was 225. I have workout 3 to 5 yrs of life off and on first I pick up a lift weights around age of 12. I have workout staghts 6 mouths to 1 yrs before. Most try to maintain and gain weight. I could try to weight at 255 for my age or the low weight 185. I think the heavy I could 285 and don't will be 300 + or maybe just maintenance. Tell me what to do rip and what you think?

Definition for fun = enjoyment, enjoyable. You enjoy training? You're having fun. I would word it: "Are you at the gym to train (fun the right way) or fool around (have fun with no result)?" Aahh.. I'm just nitpicking here, we all get the point. Let's just train properly whether you call it fun or.. goal oriented purposeful working or I don't know what you'd call it.

The fun is in the planning and achieving of a good training Just get the work done... the purpose of the training should be clear, it's up to you You could go and have a bunch of fun. I recommend a pump workout and remember that you're cheating on your training.

what’s the point of strength if you can’t leverage it anywhere except your training 😂

But everyone goes to the gym to get strong, AND have fun. If you don't think lifting is "fun", or training hard, you won't do it. Even the most hardcore, most dedicated Starting Strength athlete likes going to the gym and doing the hard work. Because it is FUN. It's what you do, it's your sport, it's fun.

Contrary to what Arnold said about pains and gains, unless you’re trying to be Mr. Olympia, your workouts should feel good. They should be exhilarating, actually.

Those crab claws are distracting. Rip doesn’t know what to do with his hands without a barbell there. Maybe rig up a barbell on top of the desk so he can grip it while he yells at us?

Why can't the answer be both? Why is Rippetoe making this dude feel bad just for doing literally 1 exercise that could even potentially HELP this kid's athletic development, rather than forcing everyone to adhere to the same rigid thing, with no regard for the individual? Rip's answer is completely made up.
@gumbygreen14

It doesn’t sound like the caller feels bad, I think he truly appreciates the advice he’s being given. The answer can’t be “both” because the farmers carry exercise is detracting from his core lifts and/or baseball athleticism

Because Rip knows what works. The Texas Method works but it is hard to recover from. Thats why there is no room for extra exercising that does not contribute to progress.
@alrbredwall
@alrbredwall Жыл бұрын
1) he is not forcing anyone to do anything. 2) the guy literally called into the show and asked rip for his opinion. That is kind of the point 3) farmers walks are useless unless you are competing in farms walks in a strong man competition. they do not have any sport specificity or carry over to them 4) they are difficult enough to cause difficulty in recovery with no benefit to strength performance. 5) there is a difference between going to the gym to entertain yourself and training. doing things for the sake of doing them can interfere with your progress. 6) should i continue or do you get the idea?
