NHL CBA really was the issue with Jacks neck surgery, ownership should never be allowed to make the decision for the player. Buffalo fans treated Eichel like a god when he was in Buffalo.

I was disappointed to see Tucky go, his size and speed combination is incredible and was always so fun to watch him just motor past guys…absolutely unreal at times. I’m glad to see he is doing so well, and obviously very happy playing for his childhood team. Im happy for him and the Sabres as well. Best of luck to you guys, though I doubt you will need it.

Then proceeded to say he will always love his time there. Call him what you want, but it sounds alot like what your doing yourself bud. Fact of the matter is Buffalo didn’t care about his long term health effects that could come as a result of the surgery they wanted him to have. They would have none of it did they? Here we are a year later and not only was the surgery a success, other players are now having the surgery in place of fusion surgery which is all but going to slowly get faced out now as a result of this success..whom Eichel has been credited with for being stubborn enough to decide what he did to his body. End of the day, people who think someone’s else’s potential health and body isn’t as important as a game or a contract they signed lacks a certain quality of class as well in my mind…but thats just me. Not really mistreated...... he was loved in buffalo by the fans until a lot of information started coming out. It's not a coincidence that once he left all of the young guys started playing better and got more enthusiastic. I wish the best for Eichel but his ego and personality are frustrating to deal with. Never takes responsibility, makes excuses and blames the org repeatedly and puts down team mates. The only mistake the sabres made with Eichel was making him a captain

@Stentor Of Sparta well of course he is. He's a new guy. He's not a leader yet he's also not the only veteran presence on the team. Circumstances are always different. Here's an example. Look at Kane with the sharks vs Kane with the Oilers. In San Jose he was in the news every day for drama and what not. Haven't heard a peep since he's joined Edmonton. Sabres fans have a lot of reason to dislike Eichel after the whole trade ordeal. He tanked his draft stock by going public with wanting to be traded. Constantly bad mouthed the Organization during that span and played himself out to be the victim about the whole surgery situation. I'll tell you this because people are very ignorant about the situation around the surgery. If they let him get that surgery no team would touch him unless he played and teams could see how he looked post surgery. After the way eichel was at that point there was no way the sabres would have let him play and influence the young guys like that. Plus if Eichel got hurt again and they deemed that surgery to not be good for an NHL player and he was never able to play again or if he was never the same player and other teams wouldn't touch him the sabres would have to pay him $60 million. And if Eichel was so confident in that procedure he could have ignored the sabres instructions and got it himself. The issue is if he did get the surgery on his own, if it ends up with him not being able to play again then the sabres can cut him and not owe him a dime do to breach of contract but he wasnt %100 certain and cared more about his wallet then his health and playing career. Hopefully he works out for Vegas because I do like VGK but Eichel left a bad taste in my mouth

@buttkick22 yup. He burned every bridge on his way out and tanked his trade value by going public. He's the only reason that trade took so long. Adam's knew what he was worth and wanted that value but eichel ripped the sabres trade leverage away.

There's always going to have to be some new procedure for certain injuries etc. Do you really think that they have been doing the same procedures for 100 years? There are plenty of times where a hockey player became the first in his sport to take on that position. I don't find that a very good excuse at all. You're talking about rules, I'm talking about the moral question of whether a player should be allowed to do what they want with their body. If I were a Sabres fan, I wouldn't be mad at him for leaving to do what he wants with his body. Stone celebrates like he has won the Stanley Cup after every goal, whether they are his or not, and that hasn’t changed this year. Eichel does it for one night, I wouldn’t be too worried.

Cassidy did say it best when mentioning that the fans should have been cheering on their own team and rookie players as opposed to booing Eichel all night. I get that the booing can be fun, but not only were they booing any call they perceived to be in favor of Vegas (Thompson losing his helmet in net forcing a whistle) but they also cleared out with almost 8 minutes left in the game. Not sure if this really exemplifies classiness, but the players on Buffalo were probably treated the worst last night.

He burned every bridge he possible could on his way out. There was no way to get what eichel was worth back in a trade because of what he did. He was the reason why the trade was taking so long. If the sabres let him get the surgery, they would not be able to trade him without eichel playing games for them the next season. The sabres brought in players for him, fired coaches for him, and catered in every way to him. Anyone saying that this was all because of his surgery have no idea what they’re talking about.
