Amazing he was able to stay on his feet for that long with a heart shot. Had plenty of time to chase a hunter down and gore him into pulp if he decided to. Absolute giant.

@@LuskArcheryAdventures Yes. The herd rallying around him was amazing. Better to be shot by a hunter than eaten alive by predators. Have had animals shot with an arrow run a short distance, or just jump around a few seconds then stop and look around like.. what just happened? Then a few seconds later, they fall over lights out. I don't think they even felt any pain from the sharp arrow hit.

Yeah. Normally, an animal would run into the woods. And we’re supposed to wait at least 30 minutes, if not a couple hours, before pursuing it. So we don’t see them lasting like this. And with a heart shot, they do not die as quickly as a double lung shot.

There are so many factors that affect penetration, as I'm sure you know--draw length, draw weight, arrow weight, broadhead, etc. And the ribs on these buffalo are really thick...as is the animal itself. No question that heavier arrows generate more momentum, especially downrange.

I am curious what happens to the meat, I know different out fits and countries do different things with it, goes to feed the hunters and people on the ranch, donation to food banks, resale etc. I know that the US is pretty strict on meat coming back to the US.

Oh yeah, you have to ask them for a price list; they'll send you one. For Red Stag, it's like $5500 for a week of hunting and one red stag. Then other animals are extra. Or you can just pay their daily fee, which I think is around $550, including food, lodging, guiding, etc--then pay for any animal you harvest. The buffalo range from $3200 to $8000, I think.

What? I know it’s hard to watch. But heart shot and dead in 15 minutes. If it would’ve ran off and died, would you have felt differently? How many animals get shot with an arrow and live for hours and hours?

@bobstoddard1796 4 ай бұрын
@@LuskArcheryAdventures 15 minutes to die is not humane. I will admit I only hunt whitetails but I would be upset with myself if it took 15 minutes for an animal to pass. Would a different shot placement or broad head produced a more humane kill? If this is the norm for time for these animals to expire then I thank you for sharing this. You have taught me that for my ethics I could not bow hunt these animals. I would prefer to use a rifle if that is the norm for a bow killed buffalo

@@bobstoddard1796 Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I know it’s hard to watch an animal die, or to consider how long it takes to die. But that’s hunting, with a rifle or bow. How long are we all advised to wait to pursue even a well hit whitetail? 30 minutes. What if it’s a single lung? 8 hrs. What about a gut shot? 12-24 hrs. I’ve had double lung shot whitetail take hours to expire.

@@LuskArcheryAdventures I can tell you every time I have had a bad shot it bothers me to know that the deer will die slowly. It fortunately has not happened in quite a while for me. I shot 12 deer this year with bow and gun all died within sight. My questions about this video are: Is a heart shot the best shot for a buffalo? Did the broad head cause enough wound for rapid blood loss? I just have never had a heart shot deer that I shot with a Sevr take 15 minutes to die? Think for me I will stick to whitetail. John, thanks for sharing an honest video it helped me to think about my choice of species I would prefer to hunt.
@bowdude33
@bowdude33 4 ай бұрын
@@bobstoddard1796 a heart shot is the most ethical on any animal. Double lung will work quickly too but only if you get a full pass through. A lot of weird stuff can happen inside an animal and it’s almost never the exact same. Listen to the arrow trauma episode on John Dudley’s nock on archery pod with Dr. Peter Attia.
