very nice! but i miss a couple of situations e.g. there was an off side call against France and the ARG player fouls the FRA player brutally with his studs first. Isnt it a yellow card? shouldn´t matter if play was interupted. Also I believe an ARG player held or held Mbappe just seconds before ARG scored their second goal with a counter attack. Last not least the ARG goalie, who was cautioned already, threw the ball away during the penaltie shoot out when the FRA player was ready to take his penalty, thats another yellow card! or not?

What do you think of the fact that the daily l'Equipe awarded this referee a mere 2/10 rating for refereeing the World Cup final? Because of them, many pissed off French fans started insulting this referee and accusing him of being corrupt.

That referee was picked for the final for good reason. he did an amazing job. And there was absolutely no controversy whatsoever in the whole game. News for you Greco, Law 11, penalty rule, is part objective and part subjective. In most cases, if a questionable play is 50-50, ref will back the attacker. Instance, Law 11 is set up to favor the attacker and screw the defender. Afterall, people pay a lot of money to see goals!

You should make a video explaining all the penalties in favor of Argentina. There's a lot of people discrediting Argentina's effort in this world cup and saying it was rigged for them so that Messi could lift the cup, but most forget this team was one of the few whose strategy in most games was trying to reach the small area. FCE. I would be grateful if you make a revission of the min 62, when Mac Allister was pushed by Upamecano inside the area. It seems a clear fault, because it would be an illigal action. Upamacano had not the possibility, nor the intention to play the ball. His only one intention was to avoid that Mac Allister play the ball, and made it pushing and throwing Mac Allister to the ground.

Excellent breakdown. It´s easy for the winner to claim that the game was clean and well supervised, but I do feel that it was handled superbly given the fact that it was a world cup FINAL. To me the best thing was that despite the tension and nerves, the agression and hostility (if there was one) never got out of hand. It felt as though the ref had full control of the pitch. You say the di Maria penalty is the most controversial moment of the game? It was a stone wall penalty, you can't trip a player from behind. French guy got absolutely skinned and them tripped di Maria when he was through on goal. Only controversy was that he wasn't red carded for it
@PaulSpacey
@PaulSpacey Жыл бұрын
Controversial in that it was debatable. Di Maria makes the most of the contact but it is a foul IMO. Remember to be a red card it needs to deny and obvious scoring opportunity; that wasn’t the case here so no card required.

Dembele's foul is at 2:03, what you have put in a circle as well. It is when Dembele catches the outside of Di Maria's left foot with his knee. Then Di Maria trips with his left foot on his own right heel. At 2:10 Di Maria is falling already and I think that touch does not matter any more. NOTE! You have made this more clear in the first video. I saw it as second though ;)
@PaulSpacey

And about the DOGSO incident with otamaendi. You focus on the leg challenge but in fact he was pulling Muani for a good second or two before he fell down = red card. And that is even mentioned in the screenshot you showed from the Laws of the Game. any reason you focused only on the last frames but not the actual pulling?
@PaulSpacey
@PaulSpacey Жыл бұрын
Yes you are absolutely correct. If Otamendi only pulled Muani with zero leg contact afterwards, it would likely have been a red card. Because of the leg contact (where he can argue he was going for the ball and the ref agreed), then it becomes a yellow because of the penalty award and the way the laws and guidance stand on that situation.

Montpellier was a clear penalty and handball. Yes he turned his back and dint mean it. But what he should have done is put his arm behind his back like other players or in front of his private area. That way he would never have handballed it. And it either was just gonna go over. Or maybe martinez would have saved it. But it doesn't matter as Argentina won the world cup bro

My guess is because argentina were already leading 2-0 with one of those goals being a penalty so it would look bad on part of the referee handing out penalties all over the place for argentina. It will look like the ref is siding with only one country. In that case I think the ref would only give the penalty if it was 100% a blatant foul that prevented a clear goal scoring chance and not just incidental contact.

Thanks for clarifying this. I got into a discussion about that 'subs entering the pitch' thing. I replied that this rule was obviously made to prevent potential interference with a play, not being emotional and trying to celebrate!! Lol.😅😅😅 I also think the Dembele is one of a rare case though. Ref will certainly have to rake his brain on this one. On the other hand, you can still get a foul LEGALLY since attempting to foul could be penalized, and Dembele is certainly trying to trip Di Maria with his unnatural leg position, but on the other hand, if you use common sense, it's probably safe not to be given it as well...Maybe it's really hard becoming a football ref, you would get flamed no matter what your decisions are.

Thanks; I think they are useful for that exact reason. Hopefully this helps some fans to at least see things from a referees perspective. I’m glad you made that point about Mbappé; I actually thought he was impeded also. The defender made no attempt to play the ball and blocked him off. Because Mbappé didn’t go down and it seemed no French players protested, it made it easier for the ref to ignore the issue. Mbappé may not have got to the ball before the next defender and perhaps the ref considered that; it was a debatable decision anyway.

Es una falta ilicita dentro del area, para ser licita tendria que haber sido con el hombro, contra el hombro de Mac Allister y tendria que haber tenido posibilidad e intencion de acceder al balon. I played in England before I moved to the US in my thirties; I coach mostly nowadays but ref occasionally. Being a ref and making those split second decisions is difficult; however some refs don’t help themselves with their attitude. The best referees are those who interact with players and communicate well (and admit when they mess up); players respect and appreciate it. The laws of the game can sometimes be complex and I still get stuff wrong; I’ve learned a lot during this World Cup by really studying some of the lesser known laws and guidance. I completely understand fans getting angry but a quick check of the laws would often mean them realizing it’s not the ref who is wrong 😉
