I spent 13 years in the military with multiple combat deployments. You make it look easy, fun and relaxing! I have an older 2000 8x8 Argo Response that I would love to go on a deep "lost in the woods" camping trip with. Good job and keep up the videos. Thanks!

Thanks for your service my friend! Yup get that Argo fired up and plan a trip. The 8x8 would be better for general use with more traction and cargo ability. The 6x6 works great too and fits in my truck box 👍 The Argo provides me with confidence in no matter what I hit down the trail I can make my way through it. With other UTVs I hit areas I didn't want to deal with or winch my way through. Hope you get out soon! Best wishes Michael & Esme!

A real paradise my Friend, exactly the very type of thing I do Via my VW Bus as a Base camp then using Ultralight backpacking gear to forge in and set up remote camp. Love this location you found, so fun to have watched! Love love love your Dog Bro! I was with you there in Spirit man, great music selections. The Drone footage puts it in such perspective adding an Icing to the cake! I use the Supper-fly & believe if you get caught out in stormy weather you'll wish you had one too. Another great video. You should definitely be able to catch fish in the lake of if loons make it home. Some spinners or spoons would be deadly on a untouched lake. I prefer fly fishing myself, but use what works. Some small flashy red, white or yellow streamers/leach patterns might be great there. Glad you guys had a great time.

Our experience was that we got used to the instability, and the necessity to winch out of the best fishing spots. Things got even better when we rigged an electric trolling motor and shut down the argo engine for a much quieter day. I'm looking forward to seeing your biggest trout from an otherwise inaccessible location.

Given the argo appears a bit tippy in the water you may want to consider a 2 man inflatable kayak. Very durable and stable, weighs about 35 pounds. This is what I take when my Esquif cargo canoe with a 2.5 Mercury is a bit much!

Michael, First thing is the Argo stability. Really think you need floatation that you can attach to the sides, so you can use the Argo as boat with the rack on it. Attach catwalk like fenders, fiberglass and foam strong enough to walk on.Everything I have seen on ultra light back packing is 20lbs or less. I think you are there, you are carrying gear for Esme and beer that most do not and they have 20lbs just to care for themselves. Good job there. Still a big fan of the rib pack added to your set up for all the survival gear for quick access. Also, add a Helikon Swagman poucho liner and you have a coat and sleeping bag insert in one.Good set up if you ever had to walk out vice ride the Argo. Good get home gear.

I have one of these enroute to my house. I'm going to see how it does with the various ponchos I have. May have to add some tie out loops to them, or m'be some grommets if loops aren't the right approach. They're not always easy to find "in stock". I ordered mine from Dave Canterbury's store. Should arrive tomorrow.

Yeah, Corporals Corner did a review on the swagman and that’s why I bought one. Awesome quality in my opinion. I am a fan of multi use items. I tried it on and it fit great being 6 foot at 250. Leave the buckle straps looser than advertised for more freedom of movement in the arms. Reminds me of the quilted liners of USGI field jackets in being light weight and warm. I will carry it as my jacket, sleeping bag liner, and undercoat when using my hammock.

A thought... I'm assuming your bar set-up on the Argo is not suited for roll protection? If that is the case, one option is to cut all four main posts, then slug them with an insert which has an OD the same diameter as the ID of the posts. Bolt/weld those to the bottom stubs (below the cut). Then slide the top back on over the slugs (which would stick up) and drill holes in each post/slug to receive a hitch pin to make for a quick release to remove as needed in the field. Chamfer the edges of the slugs' outer edge and the inner edge of the upper posts to make it easier to marry them back together again. Great trip. If the double shoulder straps of the modular pack set-up you have become a bit cumbersome to layer on, a guy could shorten the straps for the 10L pack and add some clips. This could enable you to have them come over your shoulders and clip onto the D-rings of your harness, just below your clavicles. I have a Toaks 750ml also, and just added a 1600ml as well. Looking forward to trying that out this month. I also have "plasma" lighters, which charge via micro USB (no petroleum fuel to worry about) as another means of fire kit. No better sleeping than in a hammock. I'll be trying out my new ENO double nest this month. I think my new top quilt is the same as the one you have, my bottom quilt is a One Tigris, worked well last spring.

RatdogDRB - Its like you are inside my mind 😲!!! I'm going to cut the frame as you suggested and weld schedule 40 pipe inside then use pins to hold the frame. Same with the pack - I'm going to clip it to the Foxtrot Mk2 and remove the straps. I was thinking about the plasma lighters - how long do they last on a charge? Yup - cant beat a hammock nights sleep 👍

What is up with the pile of rocks at your camp site, someone would have to pile them there like that, and why don’t you use them to make a rock ring around the fire ? All good questions! Two watches - One for work alerts (Apple) - The Momentum SmokeJumper is on long term review 😉 - The rocks are probably from when original settlers cleared the fields for cattle or farming. I hate fire rings! Pointless and ugly in my opinion 😄 - And I hate finding them in the backcountry. A burn site will fade in a year and you will never know it was there. Greta needs to learn a little more before I take any lessons from her 😉

You might try putting the wheel spacers back on to give the Argo some extra stability in the water... It seems to help on my Avenger. Last time I dropped into a pond like the one you were in I had to winch myself back out by wrapping my cable around 3-4 swamp spruce about 1-2” thick... I also had my rubber tracks on and ended up paddling back to shore with my shovel... I never go out without a shovel in the Argo now ;)
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Actually that a great idea! I have the offset rims so just need to flip the wheels over. I was thinking the same thing about getting out 😄 - I did have a paddle with me and an anchor - I considered tying the anchor to the winch cable and hoping it would bite in the soft ground as a last resort to pull me out. But it worked out ok after all! Do you find it floats less with the rubber tracks on?
@PuskwaskaOutdoors
@PuskwaskaOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
It sits a few inches lower in the water with the tracks on for sure but i think it’s still safe, I don’t carry much weight in the back of the machine so it floats nose down all the time too... I do know that with the tracks and my snow plow on the machine with no weight in the back it floated surprisingly well when I was testing it in very shallow water this spring... I do hope you are carrying an extra 50+ feet of winch line and a small snatch block when you are out exploring alone, When you get an Argo stuck it seems like it takes twice as much pull to get them out as it takes for a side by side...maybe it’s just because they drive 4x as far into a bad spot as anything short of a Haglund or Sherp 😂

Thats very true - You can get the deep in places I wouldn't take a side by side. I do carry extra gear, snatch block, straps etc but I've learnt over the years to try and cross bad areas with winch points I can reach 😉 (when ever possible). You only have to get marooned alone one or twice before you learn your lesson - lol Digging is zero fun. Interesting about the tracks - I know the rubber ones are heavy - Perhaps they add stability - hmmm.

Was that Esme or Nessie swimming in the lake? Michael, when I get to go to my favorite spot I have a 3 gallon cache bucket hidden in the trees. I keep the things I use the most but not my expensive stuff though. A small hachet, fork, spoon, fuel (butane mix with propane) rain suit and dry fire starter. My friend has the 8×8 Argo and that's more suitable for fishing if he could fish in the first place lol. I see you like a good IPA as do I but always thought that you were a Stout drinker. I'm hooked on Angry Scotchman IPA not too hoppy. Maybe cause I'm Scottish, but who knows what will open up the taste buds. Glad you enjoyed your time out with Esme and I will be going out next weekend after the long weekend rush with Hope.

Hi Stephen - Thats a fine idea about storing gear - But not sure that would work for me in this location. The animals have a great way of discovering hidden stuff and they will pull it apart unless it bear proof. I don't mind carrying my gear - During the summer I carry much less than winter. The 8x8 would be better for fishing I'm very sure of that. I'm pretty much multi-fuel when it comes to beer, variety is the spice of life, or so they say 😄🍻

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I don't put food in mine unless it's in a can or glass container. We have bigger Bear's than just the black ones, plus wolf's, Cougars and those pesky Martin's. I pile rocks and stones (10+ lbs) on top too. Just a thought.

You almost need a big bush bumper on that thing... at least you know you’re likely in pristine territory with all that bushwhacking. Next time, if possible perhaps reduce the music during your travel time... just the sound of the motor is music enough.
