Arken Optics New LH-4. Can you actually hunt with it? Discussion of field use.

In this short video I talk a bit about concerns seeing the fine retical on the new LH-4 scope from Arken Optics. I compare the scope turrets to the Sh4 Gen2 and briefly talk about the comparison with the EPL-4.
Though the retical on LH and EPL-4 models are identical I found it a bit easier to see on the EPL-4; perhaps due to improved glass clarity on the EPL-4.
In summary the LH-4 does its job. It's light and plenty clear to hunt with.

That's the beauty of a first focal plane scope.If you can't see it turn it up just a notch it'll make a difference.

Didn't mention turning on the illumination that does light up the center crossing.. that could help as well. It is a FFP optic geared for more longer range hunting.

Yea been talking with a few on that. It does help some and keep it usable. In a perfect situation I think a tad more line would be ideal. All this said this is nit picking.

Re reticle at 4x, if you turn the illumination on shouldn't that increase the low power use ability of the center cross hairs, even under low light?

Yea i do mention that. But only on a lower setting. Even on lower setting it can wash out the target.

It’s a hunting scope. It’s less expensive. It has capped turrets thus not having zero stop turrets is pretty normal. Most hunting scopes DON’T have zero stop reticles because you’re hunting with them not precision rifle shooting so why should that be a negative?

Not sure what a zero stop reticle is however a zero stop turret is great on any optic designed to have solutions spun in. The EPL4 is sort of half hunting half target with its one exposed large turret and zero stop. But yes the LH model has softer clicks and covered turrets so yea......its more so designed to set it and forget it.

Would you recommend this for a ruger 10/22 rifle for plinking???

I have a pair of 10/22 rifles. If you are going to the gun range and just plopping down i would say a SH4 is the way to go. But if you plan to use it for walking around in the woods and maybe small game hunting or a lot more casual plinking than trying for tight groups at range and stuff i would say go with the LH4. Cant beat the price on either of them.

What’s the weight on it. On Arkens website the 4-16x44 is listed as 24.45oz I actually don’t think this is correct as the bigger 6-24x50 is listed as 22.58oz. I’m trying to find a scope under 20oz is why I ask. Not a huge fan of my vortex diamondback and own a couple other arkens on my long range guns but I hike a lot hunting up steep terrain so the less weight the better

Will the reticle dim enough for low light shooting?

In low light with illumination off it be tough to see at low mag. With lowest illumination setting I should be mostly ok

Whitetail hunting since, ok aging myself, forever and I was a 1975 high school graduate. Iron sights and a marlin. When scopes got involved it’s easy peasy!!!! (I’m going to harvest the animal) Crank up the the zoom voila!! Geez 🤔. Why use the lowest magnification when harvesting???🤔🤔🤔. Why buy a 3x9 scope and use it on 3 at 100 yds. Anyway. It’s a hunting scope , regardless of the reticle. If you shooting venison at really long, distances just KNOW your setup! Then feed the family. Yummy healthy!!

Many times it is for the wider field of view at the lower magnification level. I do not see the specs for this new optic on the web site yet but an older 30mm tube 4-16 Aken model list the Field of View: 30-7.5 ft @100 Yards. Lot of difference in panning and trying to find and track the animal in the scope when you can see a 30 foot wide field of view against only being able to see a 7.5 ft field of view and those numbers will be even lower the more inside of 100 yards you are looking.

If you hunt in the woods or less than 200 yards sfp is the way to go imo

Wow these people are ridiculous, the point is for the reticle to be easier at further distance. Are you telling me you really need to see the dot at 4x at 22 yards, if you cant throw up and hit a deer at 22 yards just seeing 2 lines intersect you dont need to be hunting 🤦

I don't think it's deer hunters being over critical. Maybe air gun guys looking for precision...and in that case it's not the best choice optic.
