Did you ever see Shadowlands? Autobiographical film chronicling the life of writer, C.S. Lewis. There's a moment in that movie...where we as the audience see his face and hear him....whereas the other character in the scene is standing behind him...and therefore only hears him. Fucks me up every time. The turmoil and pain Hopkins portrays is so effortlessly astounding.

@djdissi
@djdissi Жыл бұрын
STOOOP... MP81 is right. Idk, maybe there were some small corners in the US that still looked like that, but this does NOT represent the general 80s world AT ALL. For history's sake, people need to know that. I too, lived through the 80s, lived in different places, and travelled to different countries during those years as well. Grew up mostly in the 60s and 70s. And btw, even if the 80s was mathematically closer to the 50s than today, that has nothing to do with the historical reality of where the biggest gaps and changes truly lie within those time frames. Even with our technology today, we're still closer to the 80s, than the 50s were to the 80s. Our evolution doesn't move forward consistently in precise clockwork time, so doing the math is the wrong way of looking at history, and social/cultural evolution. The difference between the 1950s and the 1980s is ENORMOUS, on a global scale, I'm sure you all know at least that much. Okay, I'm done with my rant, sorry.

I lived in the 70s and 80s and I'm black. Racism wasn't as bad as they're claiming during that time period. Blacks and Whites were friendly with each other and good to each other. However, After Reagan got in office, he started to institute policy changes that would eventually cause America to become the way it became with racist policies but it wasn't immediately felt until the 1990s. So the 1970s and 1980s wasn't full of a lot of racism similar to what we have today. The insanity started in the 1990s. The Cosby show began in the 1980s and It's A Different World started in 1987. It's a Different World started to mention more about the racism because Reagan's politics and racist economic policies started to be felt more and more within the black communities. The COPS Tv series in 1988 started to play and prior to that there were BLACK GHETTO SUBURIANS which means the ghetto reminded you of a surburbian neighborhood with very little crime. Most Black communities. The government was making sure those communities were receiving the same help other white communities. Then they started to stop issuing funds to the black communities and had the major businesses to move out of the black communities stating it was crime ridden which were LIES and later it was revealed they were doing that on purpose to draw the criminal elements so the once suburbian neighborhoods would go down on value they could buy up the land. They were constantly saying things that I noted wasn't true at all. Blacks started to believe the lies and quote it until all the insanity became true. I remember them saying most blacks had no mother or father or were babies out of wedlock and I could only count 1 couplee out of my entire childhood and neighborhood who fit that bill. They brainwashed the race to believe these lies and then made the crap true by it being quoted over and over again. I remember one time some white college students came and did a survey at our predominately black neighborhood and was shocked that we weren't hard drinkers or smokers. They even said "We had to be lying." And we looked at them crazy b/c most of us came out of religious households. And they admitted they drink wine coolers and they were saying, "No hard liquour" and they laughed at them b/c they didn't know what to think of them. They probably went back and put in their report we were heavy drinkers. Thee racist time periods were before the 70s and after the 80s. For some reason God blessed the 70s and 80s. It was like a different total world experience.

Got to see this. My mom was born in 1934 I'm so lucky. She never ever said bad things. But my dad was not nice. I watched how the both thought and went with my mom's loving up raising. My mom taught me never to be cruel or mean to anyone.

Anne Hathaway playing a racist oh my gosh this is going to be good cuz that is so far from her personality and when I heard that accent I cannot wait this looks really good and educational and inspiring and this is what our country needs right now 👍🏽👍🏽💜🧡

this is what our country needs right now? For more reasons to idolize racism?? You people obsessed with race, you are all the racists. You think people playing racist roles is educational and inspiring, because you want hatred to continue brewing. This movie is capitalizing on your obsession with race. Racists will love this movie because they get to hate the white people portraying racists. You are the problem.

@@jadesea562 no one's obsessed with race being a black person that's been spit it on while standing on a bus stop by white folks by white folks constantly getting in my face reminding me I'm black y'all keep wasting them going by a red lining and all the s*** you do to stay in power you're the real racist racism does exist not go say something about all those pornographic movies that they call Cinema that went Oscars I think of myself as a human being and I walk like that but then some white person got to always remind me Oh no you're black you're not as much as me movies do heal some people

I was 11 and in 6th grade when Reagan was elected. I didn't meet my grandfather, he died before I was born. The protagonist reminds me of me when I was 11. Anthony Hopkins' character reminds me of my dad when he would speak to my son when my son was 11, and Jeremy Strong's character (his firmness masking the pressure underneath) reminds me of me as a middle-aged dad. RIP dad, you did great.

@@sammiller6631 The Jews were ‘othered’ by Hitler, the kulaks were ‘othered’ by Stalin. This movie it looks like the same Jews are ‘othering’ the black kid. ‘Othering’ doesn’t lead to good places. I hope in the movie, the kids managers to break that cycle. I can’t remember where I heard the phrase of ‘othering’, but its stuck in my head now.
