Fantastic watch. I bought mine new from my local AD after this model was discontinued but before the new ranger was released. That kind of bummed me out but I prefer this 41mm over the 39mm. When I bought mine the camouflage strap didn't come complementary but I sourced one from my AD. It's just a great all around timepiece!!!

Fantastic review. I'm in the market for my next piece and this looks like it should be on my list. I have not had the chance to try on the BB, but I fear that even though I love the looks of it, it is going to be much too big for my 6.5" wrist. I'm getting away from dive watches, and am leaning more toward the field watch style. I have a Hamilton Khaki and a Nomos Club and both fit me perfectly. I would also think the BB 36 might be in my wheelhouse as well. Please keep the videos coming.

Don't worry mate. I've got a Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887 41 mm, which has an outer bezel thinner that this one, so bigger dial, and it fits really good on my 6.5" wrist. A wee little bit on the big size, just a matter of taste.

Nice video. It is a beautiful piece and I've been quite interested in it myself. Very interesting you were attracted to the proportions, as I was a bit put off by them. It simply seemed too large and the dial a bit barren for that size watch. Had it been 38 or 39mm I'd have purchased one. Great value for money, it seems, with high quality finishing. Wear it in good health!

+Malik Knows When it comes to larger watches which means 38mm to 42mm what will dictate how comfortable and how big it feels on the wrist is the lug to lug distance. Now you could have a 38mm watch that is similar to the Tudor but would feel and fit a lot larger due to the lug sizes.

Thank you for the comprehensive review, Armand. I am considering this very model as I can get quite a healthy discount from my AD following its discontinuation. Did you end up keeping the Heritage Ranger; and, if not, would you mind sharing your experience and reasons for parting with it? For a semi-retired teacher this represents a major purchase, but is my grail watch (well, actually, it is the Rolex Explorer I, but that is far beyond my reach). Thanks again for the excellent channel that I still view as my favourite after many years of enjoying your thoughtful comments and insightful observations.

Looks like a Hamilton Field Khaki, with similar movement. I couldn't justify spending thousands for this, but glad you are happy Armand. I know the Field Khaki looked like a simple watch, but on the wrist just looked right. Some watches look much different on the wrist than in the box.
@bighands69
@bighands69 4 жыл бұрын
+Moment in Time It is made to a higher standard than the Hamilton. It also has a screw down crown so that you can guarantee that water does not get inside the case. It is based on 1960s Tudor watches which is why it probably looks similar to the Hamilton in style.

Beautiful field watch, and great strap. Good choice. On the auto-focus, have you tried some photographic backing paper, which is deliberately difficult to focus? I think the material pattern may be causing the camera to seek. Alternatively, turn off auto-focus if possible, and keep the watch at a fixed distance, or move it between cuts. Just suggestions.

I was going to pull the trigger on the 40mm IWC Mark 18, but that case was way too long (lug to lug) and flat as well. The Ranger has better proportions for smaller wrists for sure.

As much as I admire the Heritage Black Bay and the Pelagos this is another great Tudor watch. The brown strap is looks fantastic and I'd like to see it with some nylon straps of other colours than camouflage. Do Tudor make a range of different colours to fit the watch? You're a really thorough and thoughtful reviewer and I enjoyed watching the video.
@ArmandTheWatchGuy
@ArmandTheWatchGuy 7 жыл бұрын
+Ian Woollard: Thank you very much for the kind comment! With regards to the strap, I do believe that the spring-bar to spring-bar distance is the same on the Black Bay, therefore, I may try to get a blue nylon strap for it from Tudor. It really is a shame that other colours are not made for this watch.

I like it because unless you have a specific reason I don't see why you need to have the date and unless you are really going diving the rotating bezel. So for me it's better than the Black Bay, which I like a lot. The problem is the strap. As a lad all my watches had straps and due to the various acids and oils exuded by the skin would soon get manky and off I'd trot to Woolies to buy a new one for a tanner. These days all my recent watches had a bracelet and they never need to be replaced. In keeping with my overall concept as I have no intention of taking up arms the NATO strap does not float my boat.

So this is Tudor’s version of the Explorer? It’s quite nice, but the case is too large. Resulting in this vast sparse dial where the numerals and indices seem too spread out from each other. There’s a similar problem with Rolex’s 39mm Explorer as well. These kinds of watches still look much nicer when in the 36-38mm range. I hope that part of the new releases from Rolex this coming September include an updated Explorer in a smaller case size with maybe a white/cream dial option in addition to the black.

I'm so close to really loving this watch. The numbers are wonderful, such a great homage to the old Tudors and even the original Rolex Explorer. I think the hour hand shape is magnificent, gives it real character. I even like the fact that the steel bracelet doesn't have fitted end pieces. Again, makes it kind of old-timey, which I love. And I like the rose Tudor logo. But: 41mm is too big for a field watch. If they had made this a 39, it would be a no-brainer YES. The ETA movement is fine with me, but the price is high for an ETA movement in a simple field watch like this (not even a date). And lastly, the crown is way too big. If a crown is going to protrude that far, it needs crown guards.

@ArmandTheWatchGuy

+Big E: I would always recommend a tool as Tudor (and Rolex/Omega) springbars are notorious for having stronger springs than less expensive watches. If removed with a tool which is not strong enough, these can shoot off and embed themselves into the watch case.

I always look at watches with part Arabic numerals and wonder if the manufacturer is trying to save money by not making the dial fully numbered. The clasp seems like a pointless complication and a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. On the plus side it doesn't have the horrible snowflake hands although the minute hand looks very long or the hour hand is too short, I can't decide.

I find it amusing that there is such attention paid to a camouflage strap, only to fit it with mirror finished hardware. It is undoubtedly an elegant field watch. I'd pay a bit more to have it on a bracelet, have the beautiful and clever leather strap with that deployant, and avoid the overpriced NATO-ish thing crafted from the tears of children molested by clergy. Love that lume too.

super, except you tighten the straps too much, both the fabric and the leather strap. you should show how the protruding CROWN SCREW behaves against the hand when you wear the strap LOOSELY, so loose that the watch slides all the way down to the beginning of the hand. WHY DO YOU NOT AND WHY DID YOU NOT? there is no good answer. what matters is that because of it your video simply DOESN’T DO THE JOB !
