Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) arrives at Det. Nick Armstrong's (guest star Harold Perrineau) house looking to arrest him, but Armstrong turns the tables and reveals how he's framed John as the dirty cop. Watch 'The Rookie' SUNDAY 10|9c on ABC.

Same here. He was to suave to be a cop and that makes you hungry for power and money. He only worked 4 years as a cop before advancing as a detective. That was the second red flag.

Don't forget there's still the undercover guy planted in the bad guy's organization. He may not know Armstrong by name, but he may have seen enough to know the bad cop is a detective.

Nolan was smart enough to wear bulletproof vest under his shirt so why wouldn't be equally smart to put his phone on record while he confronted Armstrong. If he had any security cameras in his house wouldn't he check the recordings instead if randomly smashing open the walls? Plus, Harper tried to talk with Gray about it but he didn't let her finish and she didn't tried to push it through so that's gonna bite Nolan in the butt too. The one thing I hope for here is Nolan not going on a run but staying and putting a fight. There were files in the wall so maybe there's something he couldn't have access to. Plus if he did not touch these files there wouldn't be any of his prints on anything Armstrong stashed there.

Would be a giant loophole but there's probably going to be some gimmick where his TO already knew where he was headed or that he was recording the conversation. Even with the recording it would be circumstantial when there's evidence in his house. At least the recording would allow Nolan to plead his case.

She knew where he was, remember before nolan showed up to Armstrong house, she was trying to talk to grey, and he blew her off to go arrest that guy, so I think Harper will let grey kno what's goin on and they'll kno Armstrong is lying

@@murlinrichard5481 They'll know Armstrong is lying the moment they look into his financial records and see that he was up to his eyeballs in debt (which gives him motive to be on the take for the Armenian Mob whereas Nolan's financial records are squeaky clean so he has little motive to be desperate enough to work as a mole for the Armenian Mob). Not to mention Serge Darien is behind bars now and was threatening to expose Armstrong on the phone right before he was arrested for failing to keep him out of prison. How do you think Serge's brother is going to respond to Armstrong failing to keep him out of prison? This realistically is not a lie that Armstrong can feasibly keep going for long, eventually the brothers are going to either kill him or turn on him and expose him for what he really is.

Murlin Richard Nolan didn’t tell Harper he was going to go to Armstrong’s house! He said he didn’t want to put her career on the line. The only thing they talked about was her talking to the captain about Armstrong!

The broken walls in Nolan's home support the idea that he was *looking* for something. Why would he tear apart a house he just finished remodeling if he knew where the stash is?

@Alana Dill well if you payed attention Neil hide money and drugs in Nolan home and try’s to find it but it’s to late because the cops shows up and the guy who was arrested says John was in on it the point is Nolan was framed

@@mustachecontroller1096 I know Nolan's been framed, and Nolan knows it too. It doesn't make sense for him to bash his walls in. It would make a lot more sense for him to just call his captain and explain EVERYTHING, and not go near the house. That way forensics would be able to record the search properly. Knocking holes in the walls does show that he's panicking, which is a very human reaction to the situation. He should have worn gloves when searching for Armstrong's stash, and he should definitely NOT touch the stash planted in his own walls.

@Alana Dill even if he called the captain he wouldn’t believe him the suspect told Nolan was in on it that makes Nolan a suspect and believe me I know a lot of the police because my great grand uncle was mafia associate and one day I will join the mafia but you do have a point with the wall he might of thought Neil hid drugs in his house them in their how you ask I don’t know Nolan was panicking and wasn’t thinking

It's irrelevant if it looks like he was looking for something. Facts are: 1. He lost the gun. 2. He had very little money since his kid is in college. 3. A criminal named him as corrupt cop. 4. He had money and probably some missing files stashed in his house. 5. He personally knew and regularly interacted with 2 corrupt cops. All of this make him look very much guilty. I'm just surprised he didn't record this talk with Armstrong or call his partner or Grey to listen in on it. Seems like a prudent thing to do when someone plans to confess.

Just a few observations. Nolan had the foresight to wear a bullet proof vest so maybe he had the foresight to record the conversation and/or tell Harper what was going on. Another thing, yes there is evidence hidden at his house but those are classified police files. Nolan, as a rookie, doesn't have access to those. If he had tried to get any of those files he would have been caught. One last thing, Nolan and Harper spent the day looking at the evidence against Armstrong and trying to find rock solid proof so Harper knows what is going on and has Nolan's back. Also I see Grey seeing through this. The man is not stupid, he will listen to Nolan's side and believe it. Partly because of the evidence, such as the lack of access to those files, partly because of Harper and partly because he knows Nolan.

Amanda Bilger I was hoping Nick was going to be remorseful when Nolan caught on but he just made lousy excuses. At least Nolan told Harper he thought Nick was dirty, it's just a question of how much he told her before he talked to Nick. I get he didn't want to jeopardize her career but he should of waited, Nick outsmarted him just like Rosalind said he would. I know that it'll bond the team more and show that Grey really believes in him and his ability to do his job. Of course he's going to eventually be cleared but I'm curious if he'll still get in trouble for breaking into Nick's place or will they waive it since he cracked the case of the dirty cop

@@melissakern4996 I thought they were going to make him remorseful, but I'm kind of glad they didn't. The warning that Rosalind gave Nolan was spot on - that Armstrong was smarter and ruthless compared to Nolan, that Nolan will most likely not live through it. Hence why Nolan wore a vest I think.

They owned him, he felt forced but it's the fact that he seemed proud of himself for setting Nolan up. And if it wasn't for the fact that Nolan had the vest on he would be dead. And he would be remembered as a criminal instead of a honest cop.

@@eggsnspam yeah, I was rooting for him to actually be the good guy but quickly learned it wasn't going that route. I thought when he talked to Nolan that it was going to be one those times that you felt sorry for the victim like he saw no way out. Rosalind was right he outsmarted him, he's ruthless, he's cold. And Nolan always wants to believe that people deep down want to do the right thing. I really liked Armstrong though, I was hoping right until the end that he would ask for Nolan's help but instead he stuck it to him.

I was absolutely devastated at the ending and couldn't believe that Armstrong was such a nasty piece of work. I really hope that they renew the show. The show has been absolutely brilliant and addictive. I also have great respect for the person or team that chose the songs as you have given me some amazingly brilliant but under-rated songs to listen to.

Aside from all the plot holes and non-believable things that happen in this show for the sake of making a tv show.. Nick Armstrong's disappearing/re-appearing lisp is one of the most interesting additions to the show..

I love this show. I love how everyone has their minute in the sun, i love the dynamic between all the characters, i love how the couplings arn't too cliche and i especially love that even though nolan is the main character, the sun dosn't shine out of his ass.

Eh, it kinda does though. He's caught up in multiple storylines and is main focus of the main storylines. He goes through so much but has to prove himself 100x more than reality that he is better than being a rookie.

I seriously hope Nolan was smart enough to have been wearing a recorder of some sort. They can still pull that spin in the opening of the next season. Nolan being arrested and then pulling out a recorder he had on him, getting Armstrong's confession. That is the ONLY sure way out for him. If there is no season 3, I will be SO PISSED. And this will go down along with my top most hated finales. (The others are Perception, Scorpion and The Finder.) PLEASE BE RENEWED!

Wahoo what an ending! Loved every moment of it and was hooked to see how would Armstrong react Really challenging situation for Nolan! Even if he were to record the conversation, Nick didn't exactly say something that can be used against him, cannot wait for season 3!!

ABC has treated Filion really well because of Castle. So if they want to cancel his show, they maybe would given him time to close out the series. It is likely they'll be a season 3 because at least they are #11 in the ABC tv show ratings: tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/abc-2019-20-season-ratings/.

I can't believe the ending, damn and now we will have to wait for months for SEASON 3, NO WAY THIS WILL BE CANCELLED. The only thing going for Nolan, he told Harper and they been investigating this. Harper has Nolan back and his team. Also, the files Serj had, came from easy access, access Nick would have had. Yeah, Nick may have set this up but no way will anyone believe it. Nick had a day to put this in motion, he would have made mistakes. Also, the files may have been found in Nolan house, where is the trail. Harper better tell her boss what is going on. Also, Nolan was an idiot, he should have told Harper about Rosalind and him seeing Nick. I don't think they will drag this out though, end in max 2 episodes and I think Nick will die in the end, suicide or suicide by cop.

Harper would have told Nolan he was being an idiot going alone, they could have wired him or something. Now, it's Nolan word against Nick and only Harper knowing the truth.

I really hope so but the way Nolan ran out to check his house out, I don't think so. Nolan was too naive and he got played. I think Harper, Lucy, Jackson and the team will help to save Nolan. Also, there has never been any evidence Nolan was dirty. Just as the team found Serj, they will differently sus out Nick.

mumihp also Nolan bashed through his walls looking for the stuff Nick planted, why would he do that if he was the one who intentionally put it there? And I think its a way for everyone to go to bat for him, especially Grey. He knows he's a good guy and honest guy. And Nolan at least told Harper about his mistrust with Nick but he feared for her job so he left in the dark after that.

I wouldn't put it past him (especially if Ruben continues with his threats). Armstrong clearly has a genuine soft spot for Nolan even after he exposed him. He didn't have to tell him that the evidence was planted at his house but he did anyways which allowed Nolan to get to it before the cops did.

@@brokenland5154 Both Nolan and Armstrong shot each other without the intent to actually kill from what I saw (they both got hit near the shoulder which is not as fatal a place to shoot someone). I think Armstrong hates the predicament he's currently in with the Armenian Mob and wishes that cops weren't getting killed because of his choices and I think he genuinely has a soft spot for Nolan and wants to avoid killing him (even though the Dariens will likely ask him to do so).

this was such a tv show finale though. youre telling me john didnt have ridiculous levels of security at his house? he already had someone break in and try to kill him, he had a hit put on him by a high level gang...he wouldve surely at least had cameras, but more than likely would have advanced security. the second armstrong shows up at his house he wouldve been done. Like not even a doorbell cam? not to mention the fact he told nobody he was confronting armstrong, and had no insight to make records of anything, or have a device recording armstrong admitting everything

What I did not understand: Why did Nolan 1. get involved in a meeting at all and 2. let his antagonist choose the meeting place? And why didn't he record Armstrong during the conversation/interrogation? - He's usually such a smart cop.

ABC would be stupid to not renew the show. I just read that this was how the season finale ended, the season had 20 episodes and ending on episode 20. Apparently, the outcome would be dealt in season 3, episode 1 so the truth of Nolan innocence would be out by the end of episode 1. So thankfully, this will not drag.

@@naekliz8119 Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way. Plenty of TV shows got cancelled on cliffhangers. Though ABC has treated the main actor, Nathan Filion, really well because of Castle. So if they want to cancel his show, they would've given him time to close out the series. It is likely they'll be a season 3 because at least they are #11 in the ABC tv show ratings: tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/abc-2019-20-season-ratings/. Though if they cancel, it would be a very short season 3 probably.

Great episode, but let´s face it, they took it out of the galley. Armstrong was a great cop and a great friend for Nolan. In one episode they made him corrupt, unsensible and Nolan's best enemy. They made a total new ark in the fist ten minutes. I didn´t like where they went with Armstrong character, but it was a good episode.

He was the first one popped into my mind when the gun gone missing, but I think deep down he was a good cop that would put his own life in jeopardy for Chen. Obviously he’s too far gone here, should have just ran instead of framing Nolan, maybe even a redemption moment before dying.

Harold Perrineau is a great actor but it seems he has a reputation for playing slimy and duplicitous characters (Michael on Lost, Manny in Constantine's lone season on NBC).

There are only 3 possible outcomes I foresee for next season (if there is one) for John Nolan. The ratings for this season were not as strong as the first. I do hope this show does get renewal, because I hate cliffhangers on a show right before it cancelled... I'm looking at you Castle, the worst finale probably EVER! 1. John Nolan escapes and is on the run from the LAPD and probably the FBI while his closest friends work to prove his innocence. 2. John Nolan is arrested and is put in jail. There will be an entire subplot of his time there, either working as an undercover cop trying to break into a gang and working his way up and destroy it from the inside, or just fighting for his life. This was a very popular narrative on television last year... I'm looking at you Flash and Arrow. And finally, the one I personally think the writers are going to pick... 3. John Nolan is wearing a hidden body camera or some kind of audio recorder that will be revealed at the very last possible second and this was actually all part of the plan to get a confession from Nick. Because even though Nolan is a rookie, he is a pretty smart guy and respects his training. If he put a bullet-proof vest on, he more than likely has a camera. Which we will most likely see during flashbacks when he is being interviewed by Internal Affairs. Hollywood is very predictable in their writing, especially with new shows. I'm curious to hear what everyone else thinks will happen.

I'm hoping your third prediction is true, I just finished the season today and I can't stop thinking of possible outcomes. I think the writers purposely left us on a cliffhanger so we could make prediction and be detectives, but if Nick knew he could possibly be killed he had to know he needed a recording device or back up plan.

Armstrong wasn't perfect for sure, but I liked him. He unfortunately took bad habits along the way, turning him away from being a great cop, because he was. And despite him turning dirty cop, he helped Nolan and encouraged him. I wish they hadn't killed him off, he could have come back. Like Ali Larter's character who got written off as well.

I can guarantee she will defend him but I think it would be a shame if it were solved in 5 mins. I would like to see them all stick up for Nolan (especially Grey.) And work together to sort out the mess and prove his innocence.
