I had a great time doing my last video which was a dollar store tree ring paint pour. This time, I wanted to use the same materials (slightly different colors) to make a geode using cheap supplies! This time, I also added sparkles!

I actually love love love. The way you pour your geodes. I'm definitely going to use this method. Now what I do is. After my geode like painting dries. I take glue and use it like a drawing pen. And the sprinkle my glitter on it. Let it sit for a day. Then come back with a soft paint brush and brush off the glitter. Onto a peice of paper. So I don't waste any glitter. I usually go back with the paint brush one more time before clearing my painting. Or it will get all in your clear. I use resin.

Thank you so much! I'm all glad to have found a technique I enjoy. Great ideas with the glitter!

Did you use dollar store white paint as well?? I'm having issues with mine cracking and the colors just "scattering" together. I was told I needed better quality white 🤔

Ah shoot I had typed up a response but my internet died while posting. I'll try to remember everything I wrote! I did use only dollar store paint for this one, including white. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "scattering" but I'm guessing maybe it's crazing or cracking? There are a few reasons from my experience that it could happen. Your paint could be too thick on the canvas (not enough poured off, so the top layer starts drying before the underneath has a chance to, so the moisture causes cracks as it evaporates), the paint could be too old, or there is too much water in the mixture (it degrades the binding ingredients in the paint to have too much water), your drying area could be too hot/too cold/or fluctuating between the two too much, if you live somewhere with high elevation I hear that can change the way paint behaves, or it could be that your drying area is too dry or too damp. I have heard some people having trouble with certain white paints not working well for them, but for me my experience has been usually some of the other reasons listed above. I've used a lot of cheap paints over the years. What brand white have you been trying? The only thing I can think of is craft paints that dry kind of chalky feeling can sometimes be problematic for me.

@@ArtbyBrooke oh wow, thank you so much for the quick detailed reply! I wish I could post a picture here so I can show you what I mean by the "scattering". It looks kind of cool but is undesirable in what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm using Master's Touch from Hobby Lobby which I thought was going to be ok since it wasn't cheap 😅. I bought Liquitex white to try out to see if it helps. It might also be thickness which I'm going to experiment with today.

I think I know what you mean. Does it look kind of like separating from itself? Unfortunately, I personally have run into a lot of trouble with Hobby Lobby in the past when I had a gift card to use there, their paint seemed very old and I ended up either getting crazing or clumpy paint that wouldn't mix with my pouring medium no matter what I did. I wonder if they keep their old stock too long, at least near me. I personally don't shop there so I haven't tested that again. It didn't happen with every paint, but much more than I would consider a chance issue.

@@ArtbyBrooke yes! It looks like confetti and blotches. Unfortunately all we have here is Hobby Lobby and Michael's 😕. But I did try it with the Liquitex white paint and it came out beautiful! So I'm thinking the white I was using was the culprit 🙄. I just hope it dries completely without cracks! Thank you Brooke!

I love Michael's! I know it all depends on the physical location but I tend to have much more luck with their paint options usually. Clearance ones can be hit or miss sometimes. Liquitex works great, I also love DecoArt Satin Enamel paint, and the DecoArt Americana ones. I'm really glad you seem to be having luck with this batch! I hope it dried nicely! You are very welcome :)

Hey I’m new to pouring (haven’t done it yet) did you pour glue in with the paints to liquify them?
@ArtbyBrooke
@ArtbyBrooke 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Welcome :) I did. I usually use floetrol but since this video was all dollar store materials, I used Tacky Glue I purchased there. Here is the link to the first video that I mention: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qMyhocqcsZbcgqc.html . That shows you how I mixed it and should help. I hope you get to try paint pouring soon, it can be really fun!

hi do you prime the canvas before starting?
@ArtbyBrooke
@ArtbyBrooke 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I sometimes do and sometimes do not. The dollar tree paint pours were not primed because I tried to only use supplies I could find at the dollar store. Sometimes if I can tell a canvas isn't primed as well as usual I will use gesso. Also, if I plan to use a different background color than white I will often paint it first (for example: black) so the white isn't showing through as much.
