After using this tripod for about 10 months I thought I'd post an update. In short, this tripod is a keeper. I always approach a product that is not from one of the main manufacturers with a grain of salt, I have had some that were, well, you get what you paid for. Happily, the Artcise AS80C is not that and is a real contender with the big boy tripod makers. With solid stability, lightweight, and a price at almost half of what a comparable tripod costs, this is a win. A solid buy.

I present this review on the product as is from when I purchased it and do so as an end-user. I do not represent the company in any way.

It's a Chinese company, If you take into account the brand Baseus is based on "BASEd on USer", I personaly assume they just combined ART and preCISE

I’ve got the 90c and it’s a beast. It easily holds a 600mm prime and doesn’t budge at all. I was impressed with the build quality for the price. The only weakness I can see is the twist locks are plastic and will probably be the first thing that breaks after a few years or so.

I saw the 90C after I had purchased the 80C. Many of the competition also have the plastic twist locks on the CF. Even the flip levers can be plastic. They are reliable (just have to make sure they are secure) and well, like you said, time will tell. I have 25 year old tripods that the flip levers are plastic and are still holding up.

@@johnbeattyphotos I guess I meant the quality of the plastic used doesn’t seem up to par with the more expensive tripods. Everything else about these tripods is pretty close but for 300$ I can’t expect it to beat a Gitzo. Anyway I’m thinking of picking up the AS80C as a lighter more backpack friendly long lens tripod. At 179$ vs 950$ for a Gitzo or Really Right Stuff I could use that extra money on a new lens 👍

@@Raevenswood I couldn't agree more but as for build quality, time will tell. I have been using mine a lot lately and find it rock solid. If it lasts for several years I'm happy and just get another one for the price. So, no complaints on my end at this point.

ya, umm, my wife says the same thing :) But, umm the tripod is still (1/9/23) doing a stellar job! I have not just used it for bird/wildlife shooting but some astrophotography too. 😁

Never heard of that brand before... It looks realy good. Only question I have is, can you also use it at the Beach (Saltwater)? Thank you

Most definitely. This is also true with most carbon fiber tripods. There are two cavoites to go wit this. 1. Normally (for stability), I would open my tripod form the thickest legs first to get my desired height. But when putting tripod in water, I open the lowest (or thinnest legs) first to have the least about of exposure in the water. The legs are not water tight so the more exposure to the water, the more salt/grit will get in them. 2. after you are done and back home, take the legs apart and clean them with mild soap and water. This tripod comes apart easily and dries fast. That is all you have to do.

I've watched both reviews and the tripod appears to be what I'm looking for to replace my heavy Manfrotto 190QC aluminum tripod that just about kills me when hiking through a forest. But, when I calculate the the weight of the tripod plus an Artcise LB52 head I come up with 5.22 lb / 2.42 Kg whereas my Manfrotto with the MHXPRO-BHQ2 head weighs 5.07 lb / 2.3 Kg. wtf The Artcise is heavier! I was hoping it would lighter being that the tripod was carbon fibre. I guess the only positive I get out of the Artcise is that it would be more stable at max height then the 190 with the centre column raised. I need to really think this thing through. Loved the reviews though. BTW is that a Lowepro backpack I see in the video? I need to upgrade from my Manfrotto MB MA-BP-TS Advanced Tri Backpack which is great when flying but again not that convenient when hiking; it's too small. Cheers

I too had an aluminum tripod (Vanguard) that was used for many years. I tend to stick with equipment until there is a need to upgrade. Since the Artcise was such a weight difference from the Vanguard, I didn't give that any more thought. I am still using the Vanguard ball head but that ball head is also very light. I will have to weigh it and see what the total is. I also use a gimbal head at times and that head weighs more than the tripod alone. So, if you are trying to get your gear to the minimal weight I think there are still options out there even at good price points to meet that. Yes, the backpack is a Lowepro Flipside Trek 450AW. I can't tell you how many camera cases I've been thought for the last 36 years. I have used Lowepro for about the last 20. This is my third flipside version.

Did anyone else notice that every time he picked up the tripod and then set it down, that the Right leg, looking at it, kept collapsing?
@johnbeattyphotos
@johnbeattyphotos 2 жыл бұрын
I noticed it. I had one leg shorter than the others while shooting since the ground was uneven. In shortening that leg I (the operator) did not tighten it enough. So that has no reflection on the tripod. I continue to use it and it is still holding strong.

You are correct! The lower section of one of the legs I did not have secure enough right before shooting this video. Rest assured that was me and not the tripod.
