Artificial light and Sunlight are two very different. Sunlight is like whole light, artificial light is like junk light. Welcome to this second episode of The Panafrican Science Review. Episode 1 is here: • Most Sunlight is Invis... Please be sure to subscribe, comment, like and share 👍🏿🙏🏿
00:18:02 Electromagnetic Spectrum
01:06:29 Different wavelengths = different colours
02:08:20 Most sunlight is invisible to humans
02:52:23 Sunlight emits a wider range of wavelengths than artificial lights
04:37:24 LEDs emit blue light which triggers stress hormones
05:46:18 Spectral range of sunlight changes throughout the day
08:13:27 Sunlight is far brighter than artificial light
09:27:29 Different wavelengths penetrate differently into our bodies

Very well explained. How much skin do we need to expose?
@elywananda

That depends. For Vitamin D, we need to expose as much as possible, because UVB is blocked by clothes. But red and infrared can penetrate clothes if they're not too thick/lots of layers. For circadian purposes, skin exposure isn't that important because it's all about the eyes. So just being outside even wrapped up warm is good.

Give thsnks.... Did you look in to fire?

Asante sana, kindred 🙏🏿 Yes, I should've included flames in this. Candles emit almost the exact same spectrum as the incandescent bulbs (so, lots of red and infrared). I believe fire is roughly similar but is more variable than candles because fire can be made from a wide range of different fuels (wood, coal, etc). Enjoying firelight in the evenings is great because it bathes us in light that has little to no short wavelengths and has lots of red and infrared which helps prepare for sleep.

@@elywananda I use blue blocking glasses in the evening and flux.

Nice. I haven't got the glasses but I do use blue blocking bulbs and candles in the evening. It definitely helps my children especially to get straight to sleep when it's bedtime.

@@elywananda I'm too scared to use candles. I'll look into the bulbs. Thanks
