I know this isn't the usual (we'll be right back at it though). But, I figured if even ONE person sees this becomes more aware, or notices others being treated poorly and says something, then job done. I'm not afraid to lay it all out, but I know that my channel isn't the platform for that. However, if you're out among wildlife, you shouldn't feed ducks, geese, gulls, or any birds for that matter, bread. Feed them seeds. And for mammals? Don't feed them, period (petting zoos and farms don't count though).
What ends up happening is that the animal will become reliant on humans to feed them which will make them too comfortable with us. Also, it diminishes their ability to survive on their own since they've been "de-programmed" and seek people for their food instead of sourcing it on their own. With Deer, there's a whole other element as well regarding how they balance their food intake with the energy they expel when travelling. Over consumption of food can lead to health issue's or even death due to illness.
As a person of visible minority/person of colour who has experienced racism throughout their entire life (denied jobs, issues in school, problems with law enforcement and the list goes on), I just felt I needed to put this video out there. Change may happen gradually, but at this moment in time, I feel like generally as a society, we're going backwards and that worries me.

Hugs !! I think too many people are stressed with everything going on and are taking it out on people that don't deserve it. Others are just crappy people who don't care about others or following rules. People like that are not worth the headache. Thank you and we hear you.

Hey Kobie, while it's impossible for me to relate to your experiences, I empathize. I'm that typical white male, so I've never been on the receiving end. While I can't understand it like you do, I can only relate to what I see and hear from my own perspective. What I've realized, firsthand, is that the people who are racist, are simply the most ignorant, close-minded and uncultured of our society. And, while I've never had to be on the receiving end of such issues, when I see or hear about it, it really pisses me off! I think to myself that, how is it possible in this era of knowledge, how is it that us humans can still remain as igorant as ever? How? We can learn about the history and culture of pretty much every nation, in the matter of minutes. Nonetheless, moral education is nonexistant today. I've always tried to live by one simple rule; treat others the way you want to be treated. Simple, but effective. I'm sorry you've had a rough time Kobie. Truly am. No excuse for such bs in this day and age. I think you did good by sharing. And, not all of us are like those types of people. I promise!

Thank you Kobie for your thoughts. I also have the feeling that we are moving backwards in our society. People are saying things in public that seemed impossible 10 years ago. The current protests against racism and right-wing extremism in Germany give me hope. The people demonstrating there have been quiet so far, but when they stand up, you see how many of them there really are.

Good man you, I learned in the Canadian Military that there is only one colour it's red and that is the colour we all bleed. That means we are all the same. My motto is "do the right thing even if it hurts, and never pass a fault" . You sir certainly did the right thing. Let karma sort out the two idiots and all the other idiots, they are the architects of their own misery, it will happen. Please keep up the absolutely vital work on your channel with Pentax Cameras !! Thank you kind sir!

Kobie, As I listened to your video, tears formed in my eyes. You are the better man for restraining yourself during the recent conflict with that person. I remember when President Obama was elected. I wondered if that would help prejudice lessen if not be eliminated. Kobie I hope that you know we are not all bigots and are supportive of you. Gary

Good for you for bringing this up. I’ve watched tons of your videos and really appreciate all the Pentax news and info. I never thought about you as a member of this or that race. Just a really helpful guy in the field of Pentax cameras and lenses. I’m very sorry to hear about the abuse you’ve received from the police, and now this episode from the peanut idiot. I live in Japan and have been stopped by the police and asked for id but always in a super polite way. I just don’t get the hatred the continues to boil under the surface in the USA. If people don’t pull back from the brink and learn to respect others there’s not much hope for the country. China and Russia are probably gloating over stories such as yours.

Salute and respect from Mississauga! The best suggestion for all of us has come from jw48335 earlier. Being of South Asian/Muslim origin, I was an odd guy who supported Trump for his track record of being anti-war and anti-military cartels. However, when I listened to the Canadian radio channels supporting right winged politics, I was shocked how much hatred they were spewing against Palestinians 24x7. Needless to mention, the hatred is taken by their listeners on to the streets. However, my personal altercation happened not against the bigots, but against fellow wildlife photographers. They were using all the dirty tricks to photograph an owlet, who in his effort to learn flying, had recently left the nest and was on the ground, trying to fly from fallen tree stumps to fallen tree stumps, while the stressed up parents were up in the trees watching the proceedings with horror. The photographers were following the owlet as it tried to escape. I asked them not to do it and was, in return, asked rudely to leave the area, because "I had a giant sized dog with me", although on leash.

The only things I ever trigger are firearms and cameras, sometimes an oscillascope. I have a question for you , Kobie: You are in a long-ish hallway, walking from end to end. You see someone (a stranger) walking toward you. There is no realistic detour, you will pass shoulder to shoulder. What do you do? It's a serious question! I've been in a situation where I faced this event daily for most of the last six weeks! Normally (the last 22 years) I'm at my shop alone and deal with people only by phone. I live in a multi racial, multi-generational neighborhood but except to wave at each other, I hve little contact. At home it's just my wife and I. I shop only to fill the cars with gas and I use a completely electronic pump and a bank card. From Covid I don't attend church, don't have school age children and I deal with only one club and use a radio to do that. I have been at one 4-hour meeting with more than five people in the last 4 years. I can count high enough to enumerate the number of drive-thrus I've visited in the last couple of years. So, it's me in that hallway and you are coming straight towards me. What do you do? Maybe you have a question or two. I'm six feet tall, slim, 180 pounds (US), short hair, clean but I WALK LIKE A TANK. I HAVE A VERY THICK NECK AND A WELL DEVELOPED CHEST, ARMS AND LEGS. USUALLY I SPORT A COMPLETELY NEUTRAL, BLANK FACE. I have clear gray eyes and I'm OBVIOUSLY making note of everything about and in the hallway. Do you reverse course? Try to pass without any visible acknowledgement? Nod or speak? Find a seat and try to get out of my way? Sit silently with your head down as if engrossed in that 3 year old magazine? What is your judgement of me? Be quick, I stride along at 120 steps per minute, 30 inch steps. I will close with you very fast in this narrow hallway and I'm clearly intent on my path of travel! The balancing movements of my arms are sharp, even and well practised for complete evenness of step. So lets make it interesting. I'll tell you exactly what I've done for the last few months in this situation if you tell me what you would do facing it just this once. Maybe we can both learn something useful!
@KobieMC
@KobieMC 6 ай бұрын
Interesting, John. Ummm, with how I am, this is simple. We share space with others, a nod should be sufficient to get an acknowledgement back which tells you the person is aware that you're there and they acknowledge your presence. As for the small hallway, I really wouldn't care if you were a body builder weighing 250 lbs. As I said, we share space with others, so, a tilt of the torso to give space in the tight hallway should be sufficient, and the proper thing to do is BOTH people mutually do the same thing out of respect for the other person's space. Why would I turn the other way? I'm obviously in the hallway going somewhere, so why should I turn around and go in the opposite direction? As for judging someone, I don't do that. I grew up with a very wide array of friends from diverse groups, grunge, goth, gangster, rich and powerful, nerds, shy and recluse. Russian, Ukrainian, Israeli, Orthodox Jewish, Caribbean, Catholic, Christian, Extreme Introverts to Extreme Extroverts. Never judged anyone. The only thing I do is judge the situation(s) as is, at that moment and make my assessment based on the behaviors displayed during that interaction. Realistically if it's not a great interaction, there could be factors within someone's personal life which I also take into account. But the one thing I never do, and I don't anyone should, is just judge someone based on what they look like or a brief passing encounter. When I worked with the Toronto Police, one of the trainers gave us a situation (during behavioral response training) where someone who' s upset/mad says they're going to have sex with your mother. The truth is that, this person doesn't even know you, so there's no sense in getting, mad, you don't know them, and they don't know you and you have no idea what they're going through at that time. Plus, the words have no valid meaning as they know nothing about you or your mother. I'm not afraid of people, never have been. I've always been respectful until I'm shown disrespect. Sometimes it's worth saying something, and sometimes it's just not since it won't go anywhere, just like the situation I explained in the video.

Kobie, it is very sad to hear of racism towards you throughout your life, particularly from police and residents in Canada. Sadly, it would be almost common place in the USA (viewing from the UK). What the racial bigots don't appreciate is that the modern homo-sapien originated in Africa. People's attitude to life and respect to others far surpasses skin colour. Many thanks for your excellent advice and hard work you put into your videos. This has been invaluable in getting familiarised with my K-3iii. Keep up the excellent work and very best wishes.

Kobe, I dare not say everything I think or it'll turn your channel into a political rant but...There is no doubt that in the USA, mainland Europe, the UK (where I live) and just about everywhere else, irresponsible populist politicians tap into the feelings of often marginalised people by "giving them what they want". "I'm just like you", "Make Albuquerque Great Again", "build a wall", "send them back to Rwanda" so they vote for that person who appears to be (or fosters the appearance of being) one of "them". Hitler was an expert at it! We in the UK don't have Freedom of Speech in the way people think of it in the US, we have the right to freedom of expression but responsibilities come with that (you can say what you like but if it hurts someone or incites - expect to pay the consequences), unfortunately some politicians seem to take the cowards way out by saying "some people might say" or "some people think" so it isn't their words (even though it is). When a politician stands up and speaks irresponsibly about racial issues, women and just about any other issue you care to mention OF COURSE it emboldens those who hang on their every word (but only hear what they want to hear). The Internet, social media and some mainstream tv are full of "channels" spewing out bile of one sort or another. It would depress you (if you allowed it to). "Boy", for f*ck sake! What sort of person has that in their vocabulary? DON'T REACT, you've no idea how THEY might act. Anyway, take the rant above as a message of support, I'm in 100% agreement with what you said and sorry you had to suffer that halfwit recently. Keep up the good work on the Pentax kit too (got myself a DFA* 50mm f1.4 over Christmas and it works wonders on the K1 and K3iii) :)

If you take Christianity seriously, as many of these people claim to do, then you will realize that all human beings regardless of race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, and other differences have value in the eyes God, and deserve our respect. Meanwhile, keep up the good work on Pentax.
