Composition is the mind, body, and soul of photography. Gear investment revolves around dynamic range, lenses, control layout. We can never have enough dynamic range. I've had great compositions ruined in the past, on high ISO film, and with a cheap Canon pocket digital turd, by a lack of dynamic range, and it made me pull my hair out. Lenses... oh boy... not having a short enough or long enough lenses on hand, he said sarcastically, can be a real treat. As for control layout... you can never have too many buttons too close to your thumb. Ad Hoc Event shooting is my favorite kind of street photography... if you're lucky, you get a convenient cross section of your local homo sapiens for perusal. Otherwise... speaking as an American who loathes American drivers... where the hell is our light rail!?!?! ARGH!!! It's something I miss from my days on the other side of the river from St. Louis. Western New York isn't the worst place in the Rust Belt, but it sure as hell seems to be among the most forgotten.

Definitely its about the context when it comes to street photography, moreover photography in general. I've always took joy in documenting what i felt was interesting especially outside of what is often under or overlooked in areas few photographers dare to venture. Also the contrast, so to speak in regards to nature found in the Urban. Traveling is usually pleasant for me with the exception of flying Going through security usually takes the joy out of things until the destination is reached. When traveling for leisure i try to enjoy the presence of being and take pictures with my mind as opposed to with a camera. Doing such often helps to retool my sense of composition just has street photography has helped me with doing events and weddings

Good video and information and photos to back them up! I find street photography difficult because you need to be mindful of camera settings all the time while standing in busy places. This is especially true for me because while I have photography knowledge, I do not have execution skills. You are absolutely correct. It is an interesting fun oriented genre. Btw, you probably would not know Dozier Graphics (spelling) who does KZfaq videos on street photography using Pentax gear. He lives in Cleveland, if I remember correctly.

Good video :) But how do people react when someone unknown points a camera on them and takes pictures? Do you try to avoid attention?

I dont travel specifically for photography, but I notice that those people who do mostly return with boring stereotyped pictures. Like the Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Tower Bridge, etc. If I wanted to see pictures of those then Google would bring them up in moments. I think those people just want to prove they were there. I am more interested in compositions, juxtapositions, situations etc, which can be found anywhere.

The art of street photography is capturing peek emotion. And things that are not common. That’s what keeps me on street everything else has already been photographed. Street gets more exciting when you learn how to see and predict

One of your best videos. Any favorite lenses for street photography? How about doing a street portrait which lens would you use ?

Thank you for the compliment! My favorite lens for street is the HD DA* 16-50 PLM. But for more budget tailored options, the DA 35 2.4 or DA 50 1.8, that would go for both regular street shooting and street portraits.

As you are holding a full size DSLR, I'm surprised no-one seems to notice you. Exceptions are the girl in the stroller @5:12 and possibly the guy on the mobility scooter. Not sure the small girl @5:25 is looking at you.

I beg to differ on travel, I absolutely love it. Whether by road rail or air it’s fantastic, I could happily do it all day long and have many times in the past. Street photography does interest me but over here people tend not to like a professional looking camera (basically any dslr) pointed in their direction and pointing it towards children is a definite no no so i do have to be very careful in what I do.

Fair enough. But how about this as an example. You're taking a 19 hour flight over say, 9 - 10 hours over the ocean and 4 more hours you're deep in the clouds so there's nothing to look at. To me? That's pretty boring. The initial excitement has died off, and won't turn back to excitement until we land. But I hear you.
