I have 4 of the Ethernet motors, LMDE573's to be exact and it is simply amazing the amount of information you can manipulate on these drives...smart is an understatement. I am slowly delving into the ModbusTCP aspects and it's pretty crazy. I heard you got solid feedback from Mach on the drive config but I will say I have also been immensely impressed with several divisions of Schneider and their product support. I also use their SFlex VFD systems and when confronted with some complex issues they got me right in with the 4 senior applications engineers for the VFD and they were amazing. Great stuff and looking forward to see how you make out in the final product. Thanks for some great stuff!

Cheers Tony, I know you read some of these comments & I am really fired up about your coverage of numerically controlling a computer! In some order or fashion. Speaking of fashion, got my ToT shirt last week, the girl at the bikini coffee stand complimented it. The coffee is trash, but they serve it barely clothed, so that’s nice.

We use stepper motors like this in Moving lights for stage and theater. For the Pan and Tilt, they have encoders that watch for steps. When they see steps without a command, they move to correct that motion. It is a lot of fun to give em a push and watch them come back to their position.

Theory confirmed! AvE is Tony's sons Doppelganger. Tony, you might want to revisit your lathes settings. Perhaps check the layout of your shop too, as we all know the proximity of certain equipment to each other does has an effect on the final result. Godspeed Tony.
@TheVirindi5 жыл бұрын
Wait, hold on. The noise resistance of twisted pair depends on a differential signal. That is, one side is positive and one side is negative, of the same logic. What you appear to have is a quadrature output, which is two square waves for two sensors inside the encoder. Sometimes the two lines are opposite, sometimes not. If anything, it will actually hurt signal integrity and increase rise/fall time, because now when a signal changes it has to put extra energy into countering the capacitance of the wire pair. Depending on the driver, you may also see the rise of one signal on the opposite line as added noise. But if the motor does indeed have differential output, then you just need one twisted pair for each signal. Keep in mind if you want to probe this that what you have is a "noisy environment", and you need to keep your probe leads as short as possible. Use the "little spring thingy" directly on the connector (and remember of course that ground has to go to ground if your power supply is not floating!).

You should have a bunch of crossover episodes where AvE makes some items on the HAAS to build your project (of course, along with the items you make in your shop for the project), where AvE acts like he has no idea who it's for as he's making it, and a couple/few weeks later, you install it into your project in one of your videos, not letting on who you got it from. Then after a few months of this happening (or when the project is done), AvE announces that he's been invited to look at the project he's been building parts for, and you have a crossover video with a "surprised" AvE, showing him your finished project. The climatic crossover of the unseen machinists!

We use a similar motor on a machine at work that has an encoder in the motor and an external encoder on a roller. Between the two encoders the motor can be positioned down to one degree very repeatably even with some inherent slip due to the design/function of the machine. Really cool motors I had thoughts sometime ago about a project for one but side tracking wins the day. Looks like your on the path to figuring it out for all of us!
