The best way I can describe Rein in relation to Subaru is that Rein is a Subaru who perfected his mask. Sure Rein may say and do nice things but he's the cost of it living with all that power is he can never get genuinely close to people or understand their emotions.

the way i interpreted wilhelms talk with subaru was that wilhelm was about to say he wishes subaru was his grandson instead of reinhardt, which is fucked up and just so damn sad. and in the web novel i believe subaru deduces the current anastacia is an impostor because he notices the slight behavioural diferences between the two

I think you kind of misunderstand Reinhard a little bit. It not like Reinhard cann't feel intense emotion but he cann't show it. A hero cann't lose composure and behave like that. Do you remember one sentence always associate with Reinhard "You are a hero, Reinhard and a hero is all you ever be". I think this is what it means. Reinhard have to act like a hero, behave like a hero even if he doesn't want to. That is what bind Reinhard

Arc 5 overall is a small scale war arc. As much as Tappei wanted to simplify the situation as much as possible, I still struggled to catch up on everything that was pressented. Some fights to me was down right boring, like the Julius+Ricardo vs Gluttony. Tappei is extremly good when it comes to character developement and interaction, but his action sequences seems very disjointed and lack of fluidity. I hope he can find a way to improve this in the later arcs. In terms of character, I'm glad we get to see more of the royal candidates. They seemed like a bunch of side chharacters in ss1. Most of them got their moments (except for 1 character that I will be talking about soon) and all of them were memorable. Liliana did not irritate me as much as I expected. Although she singlehandedly destroy the pacing of many chapters, I have a feeling that she has the potential to be one of the better comic relief characters, given the right situation. Also fun fact: I think even Tappei himself said that he felt physically dumber whenever he tries to write Liliana. The character I have the most gripes with is Crusch. I felt so fking bad for Crusch. Shes gotta have one of the worst luck stat in the world of ReZero. She is definitely one of the most mistreated character so far. Tappei built her up so goddamn high to the point that Subaru the chad even said that he would have fallen for her had he not met Emilia and Rem prior. You thought she would get some more attention in later arc but no, her character developement regressed back to 0 in the VERY BEGINNING OF ARC 4, no not even 0, back to negative because all her memories are just gone forever. The worst thing is Tappei never bother to do anything interesting with her after that, she is just a slightly competent damsel in distress. When you thought her glory would be restored in arc 5, all you get was a slap in the face because literally the next scene, she's on the goddamn floor. She's the Genos of ReZero except there's no Dr mushroom head to replace her broken parts. Even Liliana, yes, fucking Liliana contributed more to the arc than she did. And now, 3 arcs later, her character stays more or less the same when every other candidates gets their spotlights left and right and if I'm not mistaken, even Felt will get her own arc centered around her faction soon. It's like Tappei trying his best to kick her while she's already down. I get that Crusch needed some nerfs since she was the top tier candidate but this seems a little bit too much. If she doesn't get her own comeback story I'm gonna lose my mind. Can't write Crusch without Crush amirite? #Justiceforcrusch If you are curious about Arc 6 then I gotta tell you it's one hell of a ride. I havent read it fully yet but from what I know, this one is considered to be 1 of the best arc of ReZero next to Arc 4. Even to this day, it's still up to debate whether Arc 4 or Arc 6 is better. You will see a lot of interesting encounters as well as conversations in this arc. I don't know if it has more fight scenes than Arc 5 but so far it solely focus on the character dynamics, which what Tappei is the best at. This Arc's highlight will definitely be Subaru. I will say no more to avoid spoiler.
