If it truly takes a year to get a node to stage 6, then a year’s worth of content development can happen post launch without loss of fidelity. Of course, they’ll probably overestimate the time it actually takes people to accomplish those things at launch.

Really enjoyed this, best vid you've done. Also, as a backend dev working heavily with data over the years; working on a project like this has never appealed so much. "Game dev" has never been my interest or skillset, but as you say, it's not 2004. The analytics potential is giving me a real data semi here.

You're definitely one of the more cerebral AoC CCs. The editing, composition and talking points were well-thought-out. I'm sure your channel will grow considerably if AoC releases and does well.

Steven is also 100% right when he says the Riverlands is the test zone and the others will be much faster. I am currently building an rpg in UE5 and the first zone took me a week, the 2nd zone took me a few hours. Granted, these are very small and featureless compared to Ashes but it is still a good example.

I wasn't aware of all this data they are mining, which puts some of my concerns at ease

"Pax Dei will enter early access in Spring this year." Their website still has this Jan 9 announcement. Pax Dei Alpha 2 lasted one week. I played 80 hours and loved it. But, imo they are two years away from acceptable combat and four from PvP. I am not hopeful that I'll be able to play it again any time soon. Perhaps they should consider a four year Alpha 3. In hindsight I am so glad that on the last day I ponied up for AoC Alpha 2. Sometimes - rarely - FOMO turns out to be a good thing.

I've watched this games development for many many years now and this is probably the biggest insight I've gotten from the whole thing: I could write a chapter in a book of all the "green flags" there are for this games massive success, most of them being incredibly obvious, most of the big ones. I don't know if it's because people have been burned so much that they absolutely refuse to acknowledge any of it, or if people are scared that it'll make their current MMO irrelevant, but it can't be because people are just stupid. It's clear as day, this isn't a maybe, this is a "I'm 99% positive this is the current pinnacle of game design"

Considering the announced scope of the game and the large percentage of unseen mechanics/features, 36 months minimum in A2. If you look at past performance and current methodology, Intrepid shows no indication that they will accelerate their development pace in any way. The 8-10k number per server is not technically achievable, has not been talked about recently, and was always stated as a not-confident "goal". A2 servers will have no more than 2-3k. Intrepid does not care if 100k FOMO buyers stop testing after 2 weeks. The tens of thousands of hard core testers are sufficient to their needs.

Great video! Data collection on the back end is critical to get a full picture of what might need adjusting during testing.

I hope they are careful about how they use data. WoW uses dynamic spawns based on the number of players in the area, and if most of the players are doing something other than killing the mobs, it makes it so that spawns occur right on top of someone who just killed something. Done wrong can make something "automatically" unplayable.

There is so much people don't know OR get feed by total Bafoons *insert Mr. 1.5-2 years max BDO whale here* misinformation it's not even funny. I'm hoping during Alpha2 that people will start to realize the entire scope of this project, and the dedication Intrepid has been putting into this game. It's massive, just the nodes alone are staggering....4 node types, 5 different stages, 9 racial aesthetics, then 85 + or - locales where all of these have to fit in and function properly...it makes my head swim. This is going to be stellar if Steven and the team pull this off. I remember when Steven stated that a node will now have the ability to be on separate elevation levels. Because in Alpha1 there were all on a raised flat plane. We got to see this in the Nodes preview they did...if anyone really noticed that at all..when they walked uphill to the top part of the node. Man, that alone will be some epic cities, and towns! I can't wait!!!!!!! Keep the great vids coming!!!!!

Great job breaking down the data Intrepid has access to! I've tried to explain this to people that have concerns about Balancing and Gold Sellers but they don't listen.

BG3 was in early access for 3 years for a single player game. The result? Game of the Year from every single entity that does game of the year awards. There is no such thing as to long of testing / alpha / beta as long as the results are good.

Intrepid will need to release content alongside their monthly showcases to keep any hype trains going. Once A2 drops they will lose all hype momentum because now people will be playing it first hand and have daily in game ashes content to watch instead of only having videos like these and the showcases themselves to keep the copium flowing. If they add new content every month or every other month no matter how small i can see them maintaining a decent A2 player base but If they go 3+ months without any new content to go check out they will only maintain guilds who are dedicated to their nodes and the extremely dedicated individuals doing their own thing. The random players will be to detached to go spend more time playing the uncompleted A2 that they already got bored of once or will at most log on specifically to check out new content and then log off until new content comes out

WoW also has this extreme amount of telemetry & data gathering but its become an issue for them. Telemetry data is good but too many game studios like blizzard use it solely to balance and develop. Data comes in all shapes, sizes and sources, ranging from telemetry, logs, or experience, or player feedback! Blizzard tends to use log/telemetric data as we've seen. This results in a SUPER bland mesh gameplay because they use a single source of feedback to balance. Also, WoW 100% knows everything mentioned at 15:40 as we've seen from reverse engineering of the client. Blizzard simply just doesn't care to allocate resources to make that information useful or towards betterment of the game. I don't think data is the key here, but rather what the studio does with the data and how much they care.

TBH for me as long as they don't try that early access crap you get on steam and its a true "alpha test" then i am ok with it taking 9-12 months or even more, From what we have seen so far it seems that the devs actually want our feedback but all devs will say that so we will wait and see.

Gold sellers and bots could be eliminated almost completely by making gear untradeable .

i predict Alpha will be 1.5 years, and beta 6 months. so 2 years till release hits that target before UE-6
