When I'm called to duty god wherever flames may rage give me strength to save a life whatever be its age Help me to embrace a little child before it is too late or save an older person from the horror of that fate Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me to guard my neighbor and protect his property And if according to your will I have to lose my life bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife

To all of you that are posting negative, critical comments...Excuse me , a wonderful man, husband, father friend and excellent firefighter lost his life!!!! It's easy for you to set on your tail and critique every move of other teams from the side line. It would be of the greatest respect to not say anything at all if you can't say something postive. To the poster of this video/audio: Please disallow comments on this. It's just asking for trouble letting a bunch of so called 'experts' critique the people involved in such a great loss. Let the audio be heard, but please, disable the comments. It's too much for me to see this man & his fellow FF being cut down. Let him rest in peace. God Bless the Firefighters & their families.

No; they shouldn’t disallow mistakes because other firefighters come after people like Jeff Bowen and learn from their mistakes as well as those who contributed to them. This is absolutely not something to joke about but it it is also absolutely something to learn from.

@@firecaptain1728 I think that those posting negatively should be banned from the channel, so they can't comment and have their comments deleted. Leave the commenting for firefighters like me who want to learn from past tragedies, so we don't make the same mistakes. Hearing all the communication mistakes made is one thing, but hearing others who have more understanding, break it down to point out which mistakes were made, really helps me learn. Others too, I'm sure.

With news of this Fire being intentionally set I wonder if perhaps someone messed with the stand-pipe system, my own opinion aside from the audio it sounds like they did everything right, given the circumstances of the fire, hopefully things will be learned from Captain Bowen's sacrifice and will save lives in the future. @Webb07312010 - if you will read just below the audio screen, it tells you the audio has been edited and that most of Jeff's Mayday audio was edited out. I really do not think he would mind this post at all. Especially since there is much that can be learned from it by his fellow firefighters.

Captain Bowen was ordered out of the building 3 times by command due to water problems on the fire floor. He stayed in the building until he ran out of air. Also,where’s the audio of Jeff C quitting the Dept over the radio?

It took WAY too long to get water up to the 5th floor. There was too much back and forth about the stand pipe while fire fighters were on that fifth floor and the temperature kept rising. Additionally, the failure to use basic directions (e.g. "north side of building), etc. when describing locations added to the confusion of the day. The "line through the window" was initially unsuccessful because the hose was being handed to them on the wrong side of the corner. They had a ladder with a Master Stream right on that corner of building near of the burning room. They should have pulled those fire fighters away from there and opened up that Master Stream on that room through the windows to knock down the flames until other water could be supplied. The failure to get water on the fire and recognize the increasing heat likely cost Jeff his life. His body temperature got extremely high and caused him to have cardiac arrest. Almost 24 minutes into the audio, someone FINALLY calls for a defensive attack from the outside. A minute later, an engine crew finally has water on the fire. According to the investigative report, it was a full 38 minutes between crews arriving on scene and water being put on the fire.

Read the NIST, OSHA and NIOSH reports they do not agree with you. Brother Bowen was separated from the line, got lost then ran out of air. The 3rd floor was the original fire floor. Communications were horrible at best, but you know what, we all need to learn from this and make changes now! Truth be told 90% of all FD's today are waiting for this to happen to them because of change. We hate change. Guess what constructions change we should too! May Capt. Bowen Rest in Peace. Much love and respect to AFD. Heavy Hearted!

It's easy to armchair quarterback scenes that we were not present for, in these moments, when these things were happening. Unfortunately, we ALL learn something from every one of the brothers and sisters lost. That's what NIOSH is for. Let them introduce FACTS, not speculation.

The new high pressure packs have a narrow line to mask and cannot be used to do the same. Very sad. God bless u my brother. Rest in peace

R.I.P. Capt. Bowen and may all the injured firefighters have a speedy recovery. The death of one of our own is a tragedy, but not learning from an accident is just as much of a tragedy and I would be ashamed if others did not try to learn from my death or injury. Practice standpipe ops and practice getting alternative water supply if the system fails. Don't just talk about it but think about our brothers who have fallen and get out and DO it!!!

What were they doing on the 3rd floor?
@OneSkiWonder
@OneSkiWonder 2 жыл бұрын
Making their way to the 5th floor. I thought possibly that it was the firefighter that went down on the 5th floor. With fire on the 4th floor, it would be possible for a firefighter on the 5th floor to fall through the floor into the 4th floor, and continue falling through that floor down to the 3rd floor. But the Mayday's transmissions were removed, so I don't know.

This isn’t just a call with a fatality . A lot of departments use these videos and audios for training . To see what went wrong and to try and fix it for the future . It’s very unfortunate that this hero lost their life and other Firefighters were injured , but this can also be used to save lives . I can’t tell you how many times my department has used incidents just like this for training purposes. So as much as I understand what you’re saying . This audio truly has the potential to save lives
@OneSkiWonder
@OneSkiWonder 2 жыл бұрын
The only thing that's inappropriate here, are the negative comments towards the crews heard in the video, and towards the fallen firefighter. I wish the audio of the fallen firefighter wasn't edited out. It would've completed the picture, making it possible to learn more from this video. I've been a firefighter since 2006, and I do my best to learn from tragedies like this, and the close calls, so that I don't repeat any of the mistakes they made, if they indeed did make mistakes. Every situation is different, and videos like this are an excellent training tool. However, those calling the firefighters idiots, should have their KZfaq accounts banned, for extreme disrespect for the fallen.
