Sometimes your intuition has to take over. Sometimes it's so subtle, no signs or symptoms at all but something doesn't "feel" right. I could give so many examples of this feeling, because after 25 years of nursing, it's almost like there is a 6th sense that has developed in my assessment skills. It is very weird and creepy, but very useful.

Great video! Ran into this a few times in in clinical. Had a patient that went from calm and coherent to hallucinating by the end of the shift... So important to watch for these signs and symptoms.

good video, knowing signs and symptoms of what to expect is important, knowing pathophysiology is very important. it can keep you busy especially when they come from the emergency room with one drip and in a matter of hours they are on like 6 drips and other fluids.keep up the good videos

During my preceptorship, I saw a patient with sepsis displaying symptoms. He had severe chills and a change in LOC. I told my preceptor to call a rapid!

Hi, thanks for the video. I shadowed in a SICU in a level one trauma center last week for a potential position, however I was kind of disappointed with the lower acuity of the patients, most of them were step down patients just waiting for an open bed on another unit. They had a handful of sicker patients, but not enough to be impressed by. Is this typical of an ICU? Does it wax and Wayne as far as acuity goes, or is this an ICU job I should not take? I want an ICU nursing job, but not if it's going to be more tele patients than actually critically ill people. Thanks for any input

Hey ashley! If you notice a patient has some of these signs as a nurse do you try to figure it out yourself by taking bp and estching resp etc. or would you relay the message to a doctor? Also how would you tell the family in an appropriate way?

Jess every situation is different!!!! Sometimes I may try and “fix things” myself based upon what orders I already have, but if I need more orders then I’ll go to the doc. And I’ll definitely be updating them if I’m making an drastic changes. (Ie. went from 5 mcg of Levo to now 40mcg). And as far as family...I always try to update them with what I’m doing as time goes on.

I was aspirating during a routine injection for my back. Would they have intubated me or suck my throat? I don’t know the terms yet I just started nursing school. I also have a bruising and cuts in my throats and my throat is super raspy. Would you know why this is? Thanks Ashley!
