Jeremy, you are describing a person moving from stage five into stage six and displaying classic features of dementia from the sleeping patterns to cursing to screaming. Remember to use your tools: PAINAD to rule out pain, HAM-A for anxiety, Cornell Scale for depression-treating these three addresses many of the behaviors you describe. It was nice to hear Dr Tam’s comments at the beginning of this video. I would like to be my LO’s caregiver until she has trouble eating or I can no longer deal with the incontinence issues.

Its a very long difficult Journey. Staging tools help immensely to understand where patient is at in the Dementia disease. Have friend at Senior Center that is on denial about her husband. ❤

Thank you so much. You managed to answer a question I have been trying to get the answer to for ages. My Mother has vascular dementia (never officially diagnosed) following a severe stroke two and a half years ago. Since then she first improved and has then been stable but is in a care home as she is paralysed on her left side and has cognitive impairment. However, she is on beta blockers (she went into afib which caused the stroke) and blood thinners so I couldn’t understand why vascular dementia will progress if the medication is stopping her from having anymore strokes. I have had troubles in the UK finding anyone that can answer my questions as I am her next of kin following my Dad’s death two years ago and I am so confused with what I am dealing with.

When completing DBAT do we check the box if the behaviour has been observed at all or only when it is constant?

I am also. My mom had her first big stroke 21 years ago and is still suffering from vascular dementia. She lives with me and I’m watching her very slow decline and wondered if it’s the meds that are keeping her going. I can’t get hospice for her. She was denied about 6 months ago. Very frustrated with her PCP. Right now we are at ER dealing with aspiration pneumonia again.
