This is excellent Dr. Yo. I am guilty of spending way too much time trying to fix my symptoms. Videos books groups. It’s endless. So I’m reinforcing the problem. I love the connection advice too. I was totally isolated during COVID and my symptoms got worse and worse. Thank you so much.

Hey Dr Yo, could you talk about how health anxiety further affects NCD? I think this health anxiety is keeping me dizzy/derealized. I suspect I’m not the only one going through the looping of finding things “wrong” with my body via being aware of body sensations…

Thank you! I confess I’ve been hyper focused on “healing” full time. Honestly, there came a point a couple of days ago when I said to myself, “enough!” I also have tingling/numbness in my feet and an ache in my leg and have also been trying to heal that. From going to a counselor, a vestibular physical therapist, an hour walk each morning, EFT tapping, breathing, meditation (Calm app), etc… I’ve been doing it all. All of this trying to fix it kind of backfired. My husband is a gem and is so supportive. He will hold me and say, “you are safe.” I was stressing out. I’m past the panic attack phase for the most part. A mixture of things are the root of my stress and anxiety. These symptoms come and go based in my stress level. Petting my cats and dog, being in nature and breathing are calming. Relax and breathe. Pivoting my thinking from my symptoms to what I want and gradually working up the emotional scale has been so helpful. A few moments ago, I put on some music and danced! I majored in dance in college so I really danced! I realized afterwards that I had no problem balancing. No dizziness! Virtually no symptoms! You are so right, balance is key. Following one’s inner guidance that feels so clear and right is also key.

I recently became a monthly Steady Member (Victoria). The allure of like-minded individuals who know my pain was all too fascinating to pass up. This video is a game changer regarding my approach to healing as I was just starting to focus all my energy on self- work. I've been suffering with NCD since 2017 at just 30 years old. Like every other Steady Member I stumbled upon Dr. Yo's KZfaq channel after the medical community gave up on me. After a gamut of tests over the years I got the vestibular migraine speech, prescribed a pill and was left to my own devices. I plummeted further into my depression feeling hopeless and miserable. There was no quality to my life. Just two weeks after finding Dr. Yo I had my very first dizzy free day in nearly 6 years on Saturday July 8, 2023. It was incredible, emotional and gave me a reason to fight for a life worth living for- a dizzy free life. Though it's so much more complicated than what I am articulating now, to put it simply I have hope. At this point in my recovery I am 50% better, yes that fast. This video is so helpful because it gave me some perspective and measurable approaches for my journey instead of blindly jumping in. Thank you steady community and thank you Dr. Yo- you saved my life and are helping to heal this girls' heart. Looking forward to completing your book, free course and interacting on the app!

I wake up each day and I’m no longer searching for how I am that day with my dizziness/movement/ear fullness, but the sensations are automatically there and I feel it straight away, I’m confused in trying to heal why this is and I have found my sensations are so much stronger since I’ve learnt to not look for it… anyone else?

Hi Charissa, that is because fear is not the only driver of symptoms. They will stay as long as the nervous system is hyper alert, and it can be hyper alert for many reasons, not just fear of symptoms.

Thank you for this very informative video Dr. Yo. What if a virus or vaccine caused my symptoms and not stress or anxiety? I’ve been curious about this lately. If that’s the reason, is it possible to heal even if it’s more of a physical event that has caused these symptoms? TIA 😊

About half of the people I work with with chronic dizziness had their symptoms start with some kind of medical issue like a virus or BPPV. This video explains why that usually has no bearing on healing: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJ-ZlJWJt5PVcmw.html

I’ve thought about this question a lot recently thank you for making a video on it! About the regulating thing with people: I’m fairly young (21) and I live in a very difficult family situation. Part of it is very unsupportive, energy consuming and overall negative to be around. Unfortunately I can’t change anything about it. Is it still possible to heal from the dizziness or will that ultimately affect my healing process because of the stress? Friends also do not take my troubles as serious as I’m experiencing them and it’s really frustrating to have to explain it over and over again. Do you maybe have a tip or something that would help me? If not it’s okay too, this was just on my mind a lot ever since i started feeling symptoms and when you brought people up I thought I might drop the question here. ^^

@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach Жыл бұрын
Excellent question and I am so sorry you are dealing with a situation like this. Short answer: outside stress does not dictate how your body processes stress on the inside. You can create whatever boundaries are possible on the outside, which will help, and you can also care for yourself as much as possible. Having someone with whom you can be really honest about your difficult feelings and having a way to express them can make the stress affect you much less. Practicing regulation (simple stuff like recognizing when you’re tense and practicing breathing and relaxing in the moment) will help your body hold onto a lot less of that stress. Stress is unavoidable and you absolutely do not need to have a stress free life to recover!

thank you so much for everything you do. what to do about situations that are bothering you but you can not fix them? I have been dealing with vestibular problems since June followed by a severe anxiety and panic attacks. After finding your channel I realize that my nervous system have been struggling for a while. One of the major things that caused me a lot of stress is my whole family being in Ukraine. How do I regulate my nervous system if I cannot fix the major issue in my life? I hope my question makes sense
@TheSteadyCoach

Oh Mila, my heart goes out to you! I am very sorry to hear about your family situation. This is a question I get asked quite a bit on my channel. You're right- some stress cannot be removed. But the good news is, that doesn't mean you can't get better. Outside stress does not dictate how your body processes stress on the inside. Just being able to express emotions honestly and work through them (friend, therapist, religious leader) can make the stress affect you much less. Practicing regulation (simple stuff like recognizing when you’re tense and practicing breathing and relaxing in the moment) will help your body hold onto a lot less of that stress. Stress is unavoidable and you absolutely do not need to have a stress free life to recover.

Thanks for another great video Dr. Yo. I have near constant dizziness and vertigo. Recently I’ve gone into a flare, with the added bonuses of hearing high-pitched frequency sounds, ears popping, and blurry vision. Sometimes I feel like my head has a “glitch” or is skipping the same way CDs back in the day used to skip. Have you seen others experiencing the same symptoms and could they be related?

This is something I’m struggling with. I am sooo much better than I was a month ago. I was over focusing on the symptoms to the point where I knew I was making myself worse and was considering going on a medical leave from work. Rather than running from it, I’ve chosen to live my life (with some limitations) and work on my mental health with some vestibular exercises. I’ve seen improvement and I know it’s possible but my problem is, is that I over focus on it! I catch myself checking for symptoms whenever I have free time in my day. I want to break this cycle! I’m feeling like I’m not afraid of my symptoms but I’m annoyed! Just go away. Any advice on how to stop the “checking” for symptoms? I am starting 1-1 therapy next week for hopefully some support with this but I’m interested to know what works for people!

Do you find a lot of people with chronic dizziness have stemmed from a panic attack or stress? I keep thinking it would only come during high anxiety if stemming from that but mine started during a high anxiety time and my brain got stuck on finding the cause for years! Its nice to hear a specialist mention anxiety. They always tell me sinus, bppv, migraine etc etc and its not so for me its anxiety or my eyes/neck. Maybe both but i wonder if you notice its very common to be chronic stemming only from anxiety. Like you mention getting stuck there. I feel thats what happened to me.

HUGE correlation there and this is on my list- IBS is considered another mindbody condition- our smooth muscles in our intestines are also vulnerable to tension from stress. It is one of the questions i ask people on intake- "do you have a history of IBS or unexplained digestive issues"

@@TheSteadyCoach Thanks for the response. When my PPPD symptoms started last year I visited my Physician, ENT, Gastro and neurologist - all my test results came back normal including the brain MRI. However my blood report indicated I am low on B12 and D3. My ENT doc suspected chronic dizziness could be due to that. I do not know if it is a coincidence or not Could it be because of vitamin deficiency? My levels on both are back up normal now however the persistent 24/7 dizziness still exists. I am confused is my condition related to vitamin deficiency or my anxiety / emotions/ IBS? Please advise thanks!

I got some balance exercise from a facility, wich was custom made to me and my balance issues, last june. And now I feel like maybe I am not trusting my self to let them exercises go. I function pretty good now, but if I may become dizzier I always think it's because i am trying to withdraw from the exsercises and I go back to them. But I don't feel that they are helping so much anymore. I am supposed to do them monday, wednesday and friday. Every other day I am doing fine. But if i don’t do them on those days my nqr flares up. And I think it’s because of my mind. Anxiety. How do I know if it is time to ease up the exercises? I have pppd and "vestibular migraine".
@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach Жыл бұрын
Hi there! From my perspective, the exercises are likely just giving your brain a "safety message." I know it can feel quite scary to stop doing them but at this point, your brain knows what to do with the sensory information it's getting. When the symptoms come, see if you can find other ways of letting your brain know you are safe- even just reminding yourself of this video!

Definitely a thing. I think it results from decreased blood flow and spasms in your head. When that happens, my theory is it affects blood flow to the inner ear and causes temporary issues with hearing and dizziness.
