Questions answered in this episode:
1. What is your advice on worming your horse? I typically worm every 6 months with different pastes, but what do you suggest?
2. My horse had an abscess and I wanted to know, how does an abscess form, how and why does it burst?
3. My vet has recently told me that she thinks one of our horses has neurological EHV-1. I don't know very much about this, but I was told it could spread. Are my other horses in danger? What can I do for my current horse with this condition? Is euthanasia the best option?
4. How long should you wait to give your horse water after a good workout? Can the water be cold or should it be a moderate temperature?
5. My horse is in all day and then gets turned out during the night. My mother is worried she's not getting enough Vitamin D. What is something that could help her receive Vitamin D?

Can you make a video about at home checkups. Like what to look out for on your horses behavior or something that you can see on your horse to make sure that they're healthy

thank you for answering my question! my vet originally thought that he had Lyme, but we treated for that and no improvement. He has ataxia, mood swings, is hyper-sensitive to touch, and can't pee without moving around. He also has a strange lack of muscle around his left hip.

My vet is stumped. She recommended euthanasia without even testing him for anything, because he has to be on stall rest and it's sad for him not to be with our other 4 horses.

Hi Chase. We’re so sorry that you and your horse are going through this right now. Based on the unusual signs you describe, your horse could be suffering from any number of things so he really needs an accurate diagnosis. Fortunately, your veterinarian probably has a teaching university or referral center nearby with board-certified internal medicine specialists that you two can work with to get to the bottom of things and provide your horse with some relief. Hope this helps. - Dr. Lydia Gray

My horse recently had a tumor removed in which the biopsy revealed it was a Sarcoid tumor. What causes them, and in some cases why do the tumors grow back? #askthevetvideo -Emily

Going along with the water after work question. What about feeding them grain? When is it safe to feed our horses after or even before riding? I was always told 30 minutes but is that true? Before or after a work out.

During the winter, it is hard to find hay for sale in my area so I feed my 12 year old mare beet pulp. I have read that beet pulp lacks in nutrition and vitamins. Is there a better alternative for beet pulp or some sort of supplement I could be feeding her in addition to beet pulp?
