Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

11 жыл бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This was an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

Is definitely important not just to study the claims of any other worldview, but also how they came to be and who are those who make the claims. Who was Joseph Smith and how Mormonism came to be, same for Scientology, same for Islam, Hinduism, etc. This way will also help to clearly see why Jesus Christ is the only way by far, and no possible for any other worldview out there. Love create and preserves, hate kills and destroy and the only one in who we can claim that love is from Jesus Christ.

I totally agree with everything you are saying, and yes that is what happens sometimes in science, you need a full overhaul of basal theories once things stop making sense, or to explain new crazy phenomenon, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't trust the models we have now. They work pretty much perfectly for our use(we didn't miss mars). Also if anyone claims 100% trust/belief in something then they are being unreasonable, and they are lying to you or themselves.

@1GodOnlyOne If we have a mind that can think independently from others then we don't have to agree with everything that is dictated to us by whatever authority. You may say a parent has authority over a child but that child wouldn't be human if at some point they disagreed with their parent. It's natural for us to question what our parents tell us. If you parents grew up in a small village with only knowing their immediate surroundings then they would have a different perception of the world.

I'm sorry that was the wrong book, I meant "The Case for a Creator". but really either one is a good book. The second book is more like a text book that lists evidence after evidence that says needs to be answered. It's called "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell. It's a pretty thick book with just facts. If anything, you could look at it to see if you could refute any of the facts that it has in it.

Textual variants have to do with the early Greek manuscripts. If there is only one ancient manuscript there are no variants. If you have two copies and they differ on spelling or punctuation then you have a variant since they are not exactly the same. This is not a problem so "textual problems" is not a good word to use in the drive for specificity.

I think you're confusing evidence and proof. I can't prove God exists just like you can't prove he doesn't. But like in a court case, I can present evidence and one by one, build a case. One piece of evidence usually isn't enough to convince someone of something but when you take all evidence into account the weight of the argument becomes stronger. There are several good books that list that evidence. one is written by an ex-Atheist and is more like a story, it's called "The Case for Christ"

Science is always changing and updating what they use to teach as law. The Bible has always taught the same thing and has never wavered. There has never been a discovery, scientific, archeological or otherwise that has ever disproved the Bible. I can say that with all confidence. Can you say that things in science that were taught to be true have never been found to be wrong? No you can not because it happens many times every year.

I attribute everything to God in a way. Not like someone that sees the sun for the first time and says it's a god, but in that God created all things and by him all things exist and have purpose. His ultimate plan is in the Bible. Can we understand all of it, Paul said, right now we see things like looking through a dirty dark glass but one day everything will be crystal clear. God says, My ways are above your ways and My thoughts far above your thoughts.

I don't attribute anything to an unknowable god. On the contrary, the Christian God is very knowable in a very real sense. Throughout the Bible we learn that God is a personal God, he is just, loving, forgiving, very patient. Most people are right that religion has caused so many problems in this world but when you have a relationship with God rather then having a religion, it is something completely different, it truly changes lives.

This is how I believe Cliffe would answer this: No one can "prove" that Jesus is who he claimed to be but what you can do is look at the evidence for yourself. You should ask yourself, "would I give more weight to the writings of people who claim to be witnesses at the time of the events or would I give more weight to what someone said 600 years after the person lived?" See it's a matter of the weight of evidence not just saying someone is right or wrong.

I believe the God and science go hand and hand. When I look at the wonders of the world and the universe I see magnificent complexity and wondrous works that I attribute to a God that can not be poured into a beaker to be tested or measured with a ruler. If he could be, what kind of God would he be. God says "my thoughts are higher then your thoughts and my ways are higher then your ways"
