The 2022 Aston Martin V12 Vantage is going to be the last V12 Vantage ever produced according to Aston, as the company moves towards an all electric future. It costs £265,000 before extras, which is a £140,000 premium over the regular V8 Vantage. Is it worth it? Let's see..

I do miss the days of new Aston Martins being beautiful. Compared to the first gen Vanquish and the DB9, this looks just like a clown to me. I agree with Harry that the dash is an absolute mashup of horridness and the V12 makes up for a lot thankfully. It better be a special drive for that money. Many thanks Harry for a great review.

Sadly after owning a 2006 V8 Vantage, I agree. These cars are far too busy looking now, and use the German AMG motor rather than their proprietary engine that is naturally-aspirated. I would much rather drive my old, low-mileage car.

I don’t get why they would make the lovely long bonnet look shorter with the contrast paint, they are hiding one of its best features.

I was playing around with the configurator on the Aston website, and there are styling options to make this thing look a thousand times better (rear wing delete, removing the carbon fibre bonnet, sophisticated colours etc.), to the point where you can get it to look quite classy and stylish. Why anyone would order a V12 Vantage in this spec is beyond me...

I think you are absolutely right. In this spec this car is so weird. It looks like its configured in Need for Speed. The old V12 Vantage shown in the Evo Magazine was so cool and classy and like the car for Bond´s hooligan moments. On this one the side skirts, seats and wing look so tryhard.

I believe a lot of Aston's current struggles when it comes to sales could be laid squarely at the design department's door. The good ol' Vantage and DB9 were simply irresistible, while these newer models never quite seemed to have the same panache. Then there's the interior, which is their weakest point indeed. If I had that sort of money to burn on a new sports car, I think I'd patiently sign up for a spot on Ferrari's waiting list.

It's great that it has a V12 in it - as I suspect it's probably the last time we will ever see one of those engines. Shame that it has a flappy paddle gearbox though, as I did like the manual in the old version of the V12.

That's what lots of people (including Jeremy Clarkson if I recall correctly) said the last time Aston revealed a V12 Vantage... Why on earth would this be the last V12?? It's not like the Chinese bribery getting our politicians to push for the nonsensical EV craziness will last forever... The truth and common sense usually prevails. There is no logical reason to end V12s, none at all. Only anti-science religious nonsense. E-fuels and biofuels are real, and make these cars far more environmentally friendly than EVs.

Harry did not say anything about a flappy paddle gearbox. If you guys would really all buy manual gearboxes, they probably would not disappear. What some of you don't understand is the fact that with the stupid Electric vehicules everything will be gone. Manuals, engine sound, naturally aspirated, Turbo... Wake up guys and enjoy these cars, while they last and stop complaining.

I don't like the trendy exterior spec on this particular car, and the interior hasn't been updated - it's a disaster for a modern supercar. But I do like the short gearing, the sound , and (trusting Harry's views) it's a very satisfying, quality-feel drive. But not IMHO not worth the £140k premium over the V8, even in Monopoly land.

Harry, please take into account AML is a small independent company with a small development team, they also don’t have the massive development budgets of VAG etc, so, yes the facia is now showing it’s age (even though the rally call from many motoring journalists on other cars are bitterly complaining about lack of buttons) but, can you imagine what the costs are for tooling up a new facia, the development costs etc. Aldo the price, we’ll, as you say all are sold anyway. As for the design, it’s gorgeous! Yiu are seeing the sad end of ICE cars and this is fantastic xar

I like everything about it. It's like the lovechild of a Porsche and a Ferrari. I think Aston Martin does some great design work. Like a Lexus or a Cadillac, these are luxury cars that just happen to be sport capable. So, I can understand critiquing the interior, but the rest of the car is on point. Seems like Aston Martin doesn't get a lot of respect, and perhaps it's deserved (I'm just an ignorant moron with way more than two cents), but I think they make some great looking cars. :)

I owned the new Vantage V8 and enjoyed it. I gave it to JayEmm on Cars for his KZfaq review in 2020. Whilst the looks aren’t loved by all, I thought mine was gorgeous with the original front end. It always lacked a bit of steering/suspension finesse and the traction in the wet was a bit lacking. However, I find this Vantage V12 rather ugly and extremely overpriced. Interior was dated when I had mine and it’s not commensurate with the asking price of this model.

The dual-clutch vs torque convertor is an interesting question and seems to divide a lot of people. I have a couple of torque converter performance cars and a dual clutch performance car. The torque converters are really really good at giving you a smooth ride in traffic, but when you are on it, as Harry says, you do feel the dual clutch is crisper. For me it's also a choice between manual and dual clutch and a separate choice of a torque converter car. And that's because a dual clutch is a joy in traffic compared to a manual so I am happy to sacrifice some jerkyness at low speeds for something that is crisp and F1-like when I'm driving hard or on track. Finally I'd add that if you like to be in tune with what your mechanicals are doing, you get a feeling the torque converter doesn't really like to have it's gears changed and prefers to be in control, whereas on a dual clutch, you really feel like you are the driver and it's a manual gearbox with lightning-fast changes.

i was just thinking of harry's lovely back country narrow'er roads as we have in nz, whether of not he ever comes across a cop car with the speeds of all his test cars do ie standing acceleration etc speeds & whether he has radar detectors to slow down in case.. Also as harry mentions about the electric steering cars for the last decade, & how they have a certain non feel about them as for example my manual 997.2 turbo gets last of the mechanical steering cars & totally feels 'everything especially on some of our crappy-ier roads sent back through the steering wheel, having full bilsteins will also have something to do with this..back to harrys v12 vantage test, also on the fence about it's rear spoiler- i think could have been better designed?. this car guessing 600-700,00nz$ here. informative as ever thankyou harry's garage.

What a sound! Harry why don't you get Charlie to look at a seperate mic you can wear on your top. At times you were very hard to hear over that superb V12! You can get small ones that Bluetooth to the camera. Again another great watch!

I like the exterior design of the vantage, but not the OTT flourishes on this one. However, like many others, I think the interior in this (and the db11) really lets it down... The air vents look like Dame Edna's glasses! I do like the interior of the DBX though, as it appear much more cohesive and less like it was laid out by a 7 year old boy. I really want Aston to succeed, but I couldn't see myself buying anything from their current range... Not that Aston should care about that as I'm far to poor to even look at their used cars! Great job as usual Harry, thanks!

@@crazyfroggie6546 Aston Martin used to be the epitome of 'Gentleman's style'. This thing looks like a teenager's wet dream of a 'Fast n Foorius' backyard makeover.

@@JonathanCheeseman yeah, far too being. Don't know why this whole idea of showing off with brands these days. For this kind of money I'd have an s class, with super comfy seats and still almost hit 190mph if ever needed. And plenty of spare change!

I can just imagine the magnet snapping out of Harry's grip, adhering itself, metal to metal, to the rear wing! At a cost of tens of thousands of pounds, probably. I hope you wrap your magnet in soft felt before testing for construction materials!

It’s crazy to think of the world we’re living in - How on earth an EV , and I don’t care if it does 10 thousand miles per charge , can compare with this masterpiece of a soundtrack ? Been in Taycan , drove Model 3 and I find that their quietness kills all the joy , excitement and anticipation. What remains is : missus shouts get the car ready we’re going shopping that’s the purpose of these EV’s

I think my choice would be the end of the line previous shape V12 s AMR, 600 bhp and manual gearbox, find a low mileage example for around £175k.
