Ugh I can't afford it and it's sold out. I'm gonna have to save up and hope it comes back when I can afford it. But damn this thing is flawless to me. If only it had a second usb port. It's got everything I need. It's really hard finding everything in one place. 8 cores, decent gpu, only 13.5 inches, hdmi, usb, power button, super stylish but not overkill, good battery, webcam, 1tb, touch screen, tablet/tent mode, backlit keyboard, 16gb ram, usb c, good screen, solid build, lightweight, and if you just buy the laptop it's really cheap too. If you go for the laptop AND attachment you're in for a treat. When you bring the attachment it becomes a much more capable gaming powerhouse. Out in the community it's a basic 2 in 1 with good stats. At home it's a gaming and creating masterpiece.. I can't get over it

@Catbread the rtx 3050 will likely be released in mid mai along the rtx 3080ti desktop. so we might see the updated version in the beginning of june. (there is a show at 1.7.2021 where asus might show the "new" flow)

Awesome. Would love to see how the Q2 update of this (with the successor to gtx 1650) compares to the Zephyrus g14 with 3060 MaxQ.

It's a pretty nice package. The performance is impressive for the form factor. Sadly the battery life is quite a let down, especially given the fact that you tested at %25 brightness but it's to be expected. I wonder how it would cope at 40% brightness with battery saver on.

Very interesting! Since the XG mobile can be seen as a docking solution it may be worth checking/comparing the perf. of the sd card reader, the network and the usb interfaces (p.ex. conneted to an external ssd) in its test.

I like the details you go through. Think you are the only one mentioned you can turn off the dGPU and only use iGPU, that is good for battery!

Just a little note: for some reason, Armory Crate does not apply the overclock to the GPU, at least for my device and other ASUS devices I've had. It's probably best just to stick to MSI Afterburner for that.

Great review as always!! For productivity, I would choose this over the 13" Surface Book 3. I had one of those and as well as having a 4-core U series CPU, there is also NO fan in the screen portion, where the CPU is, so it's a thermal throttle (and even temperature warnings) hoedown in there. The GPU does have a fan in the keyboard section, but the CPU passive cooling is an appalling design decision in what's otherwise a great machine IMO. Even the i7 Surface Pros have fans. If you're going for the surface Book 3, get the 15" version, which does have a CPU fan. As for this ROG flow, I think it looks amazing. 2 things give me pause - the slow screen response rate, and the 2230 format SSD. Those things are very difficult to come by. I wish they could have found space for a normal sized M.2. Otherwise, great machine and great review! Looking forward to your review with the XG Mobile.

Thanks @Steve for bringing the long weighted review for this very interesting laptop, and as usual, a great one. It's amazing to see what AMD has done with Zen 3 mobile Processors. Now we have a 13.4" laptop with 8C/16 35W TDP, a real graphics card, 2-in-1 design with touch & pen support but still weights less than 3 lbs, in fact same as XPS 13 with its 15W i7-1165g7. This offers almost similar graphics and nearly twice the CPU performance of Razer Blade Stealth 13 but costs lesser than Razer's similar configured unit. But my takeaway from the review is "Don't dance in front of the webcam in the dark", since now I've seen you do so.

Tent mode also increases the cooling capacity by up to 8 degree celsius!

I don't remember what model it was, but when MS launched the Surface Book with detachable keyboard base that had the GTX 1060, I thought it was greatest laptop ever!

Hey OwnorDisown, do you suggest an E-GPU for someone who has a gaming latop with an i7 9th and a gtx 1660? Which one is the best to get and should I even get one?

Just ordered one of these with the eGPU to replace my surface book. Because it's the closest thing to a ultra powerful surface book.

I just got one with the 3050ti, Its the only model available in my country, Mixed feelings... i love the laptop, but since i plan to get xg mobile later, i feel a loss of value with the 3050ti

Stephen I will be waiting for the upgraded version of this which will carry the 3050 Ti. I have literally smashed through the internet regarding 13" ultrabooks and this has it all : Amd 5000 Cpu, lightweight, Touchscreen, 120 Hz, GPU ( I won't game on it but still it will help with other stuff) Gorilla glass! decent battery, speed charging, Customisable for GPU CPU fans, 16 Gb ram, decent M2.. It's only competitor is the HP Spectre 13'' X360 which has an AMOLED screen ( I don't care about gaming on it only portability) If HP releases it with AMD it's gonna be a close race. Tbh I am a bit reluctant in regards to IPS monitors. Amoled are much better. So there goes my question: how black is it's black? I don't know whether you have a trick up your sleeve to show us the screens of the models you review in complete dark so as to see if eg. the black margins of a movie are black or grayish (I hate that). Is the flow x13 capable of using dgpu on external monitor through USB C? Someone mentioned on reddit that dgpu isn't connected to either usb c or hdmi ports.. You did say hdmi can only access igpu, just want to confirm usb C.. Would appreciate if you could answer as I'm having second thoughts on the 3050ti model.. Thanks in advance! 😊

They don't include the digital pen in Turkey, and there is nowhere to buy it. I will buy it when I visit the UK.

It's a bit sad that the eGPU is so expensive, but they made it first, they can charge whatever they like, and I imagine that designing such a powerful component in a kilogram package must have not been cheap. But this is the future of gaming, and I am itching to see the competition responding. Maybe they can put cheaper GPUs, like a 3060, which is perfectly good for gaming, and it would be much more afordable, like 1800 dollars for a 15 inch 2 in 1 with a portable 3060, that would be amazing...😍 Fantastic video as always, already watching in my Aorus 15G, if you want feedback for a future review, let me know...😉😉

Great review! I wish it would come with an SD card reader too, would be a simple way to add more drive space. Do you recommend getting a screen protector to prevent any scratches? Or is the Gorilla Glass sturdy enough?

A setup with a thin and light notebook (but 15"/14" not 13") with entry level graphic card + an eGFX with and high end eGPU would be my choice in future when it will became more affordable; however not a proprietary solution but a standardized one: i want to choose my eGFX, my eGPU and laptop separatly and have the possibility to upgrade every single part between them regardless the rest. Asus solution is interesting for me because i am a technology entusiast but it is too much expensive and too much proprietary.

when you compared to the g15 did you increase the wattage to 45 watts to compare it?

The ryzen 5000 mobile could be the tip for some differential on the part of amd as a ryzen 9 of 12 cores for laptops, they chose to do the "Intel thing" which is put one more letter in the nomenclature and increase the clock and make advertising as if it were the example of something different, out of the curve, the best possible, but it's not even that good and the flow 13 and xg mobile should be 20% cheaper at least, to "start" being worthwhile, but I still think that none of them is worth more than $ 1000

This laptop is perfect for me, but I'm not sure why Asus only offers 4K screens for this in our country, such a waste of resolution at this size imo. If only they offer a Ryzen 7 + 1080p version, getting the Ryzen 9 + 3080 egpu here will cost you $3,800

I just bought the rog flow x13 and the touchpad (clickpad) seems a bit lose, it makes sound even when I tip it. Is this usual or should I contact asus support? It is kind of nasty when scrolling websites.

Given how much the XG Mobile costs it really should be compatible with more than just the one laptop. I think that alone may put off most people who aren't loaded. For less money than the X13 and XG Mobile combo you can get a significantly better performing Alienware, which I know isn't as portable, but still.

This review failed to cover the fatal flaw in this laptop. The use of 2230 shorty M.2 SSD. At this time 1TB is the max size you can get. No 8TB M.2 SSD going in this one.

Not for me. While I think the connection is cool, using a laptop gpu and not a legit desktop gpu is a deal breaker.

i rather build a 2000$ PC and buy a 1000$ laptop too..... plus that gtx 1660 doesn't have that much use for me to be worth it... I wish they just added more battery instead. the battery life is kinda bad. but I always dreamt of a device like this. maybe this year or the year after they'll start making sense it looks like the SSD is soldered on too?!
